Mountain Tragedy: Woman Killed by Lightning Shortly Before Boyfriend Was To Propose to Her

This story is absolutely horrific. In Western North Carolina, Richard Butler went with his girlfriend, Bethany Lott, 25, on a hike to the top of a mountain. His plan was to propose to her at the top. However, when they reached the top, lightning struck and killed Lott.

The accident occurred on Max Patch Mountain in the Pisgah National Forest, which is along the Appalachian Trail.

He had the ring in hand when the lightning struck. He said that she had just said “God baby, look at it. Isn’t it beautiful?”

Without question, one of the saddest stories that I have read.
