India Health Minister Denounces Homosexuality as “Unnatural Disease” At AIDS Conference

YouTube PosterIndian Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad shocked the world community at an AIDS conference by describing homosexuality as an “unnatural disease” spreading around the world at an alarming rate. In the world’s least surprising revelation, Azad informed the crowd “There is a substantial number of men having sex with men in our country.”

Azad told the crowd that “[t]he issue to worry about is that this disease of men having sex with men has unfortunately arrived in India, too. This is completely unnatural and shouldn’t happen, but is there.” What was even more alarming was his observation that “it’s difficult to track who’s doing it and where.” That sounds like he is more interested in a law enforcement and health response to the “problem.”

In 2009, the Indian courts decriminalized homosexuality.
