Tragic Mistake or Dog Lynching? New Jersey Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After Death of Yorkie

There is an interesting criminal case out of Perth Amboy, New Jersey where Isabella Rojas-Soriano, 30, faces two counts of animal cruelty after she left her dog unattended in her car while her family went to eat at a Chinese restaurant. Scoobey ended hanging itself by its leash.

Rojas-Soriano had tied Scoobey’s leash to the headrest, presumably to keep the dog from jumping out when the minivan door was opened. She is now charged with animal cruelty for leaving an animal unattended inside a vehicle and for carrying an animal in an inhumane way.

The unattended charge is obvious since dogs and cats routinely die after being left in hot or cold cars. Temperature does not appear to be a problem here however. Does this warrant criminal charges in your view or a civil fine as a freak accident?
