The boy was sixteen years old and there are indications of 10 other such cases.
However, none of these cases were mentioned in a recent report on abuse by priests in the country. The so-called Deetman Committee set up by the Church says that they did not mention any of the cases because of “few leads for further research.”
The report is being criticized for this and other omissions. Notably, Vic Marijnen was the chairman of the children’s home where Henk Heithuis and dozens of other children were abused until 1959. He later became prime minister.
