LaBelle Pays $100,000 After Allegedly Abusing Pregnant Mother and 18-Month Old Daughter For Playing In Front Of Her Apartment Building

Patti LaBelle has long given divas an even worse name for her outbursts and public conduct. She reportedly hit a new low on Nov. 10, 2010 when she started screaming profanities at a pregnant mother, Roseanna Monk. and a little girl in the lobby of a Manhattan apartment building where she was staying. She has now agreed to pay $100,000 for the tirade in a settlement.

The Grammy-winning singer allegedly dropped the F-Bomb and called Monk a “c–t” after objecting that Monk’s 18-month old daughter was playing too close to the lobby door of the Trump Place apartments. She then allegedly proceeded to throw the contents of a water bottle on Monk and had to be pulled away by bodyguards when Monk said that she was upsetting the little girl, Genevieve. LaBelle had to be pulled into the car according to witnesses. The allegations made for good claims for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Particularly given the presence of a child, it is unclear why LaBelle or her lawyers did not settle this case earlier. She will now pay $100,000 and still look like an incredibly unstable and abusive person.

Previously, LaBelle bodyguards were accused of assaulting a man at the Houston airport.

To her credit, Monk (a former kindergarten teacher) will donate all of the proceeds to the Hope & Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund.

The lawsuit by Monk had detailed the emotional trauma to the little girl but LaBelle had denied any liability and said the Monks were “more than 50 percent at fault.” The settlement means that LaBelle will not be able to use her defense from her hit single, “If I Only Knew”:

I must have rehearsed my lines a thousand times,
Until I had them memorized.
But when I get up the nerve to tell you
the words just never seem to come out right.
