Jesus Is My Co-Pilot: Louisiana Man Claims God Told Him To Speed

Dylan Christopher Thompson, 20, insists that he was merely listening to divine direction when he drove 100 miles an hour during a 10-mile chase. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies were less than won over by the “Jesus is my co-pilot” defense.

Thompson said that God told him to drive fast that day and the other drivers were also prompting him to drive fast. Yet, as the police chased down his 1999 Ford pickup truck, he damaged fences and gates. Thompson then lost control and ran off the road. He did not wait around for additional divine direction: he and his passenger took off into the woods. They eventually came out.

Thompson is now charged with speeding-maximum limit over 100 mph, aggravated flight from an officer, simple criminal damage to property and simple kidnapping.

He is not the first to raise this type of defense, as we previously discussed.
