In Fecal Delicto : Californian Man Assaults Lawyer and Jury With Feces in Court

These are the types of dangers that law school simply does not prepare you for. Weusi McGowan, 37, wanted San Diego Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Fraser to replace his public defender Deputy Alternate Public Defender Jeffrey Martin. Fraser refused, so after a break McGowan returned to court and promptly produced a plastic baggie with fecal matter and smeared in on the face and hair of Martin. He then tossed the waste at the jury. The home-invasion robbery suspect got a new trial, a new lawyer, and presumably a new assault charge.

It appears that feces is a common form of expression for McGowan who previously wiped feces on himself.

This is not unique, however, as this Chicago case and Florida case and Pennsylvania case indicate.

McGowan has been upset over the fact that a juror was allowed to see him in shackles and the court’s refusal to represent himself. Of course, the whole feces throwing thing is generally frowned upon by litigators as unhelpful and unhygienic. For his part, Martin is remarkably forgiving.

McGowan, 37, is charged with hitting a man with a rock in a sock in a prior crime. It turns out that the rock in a sock was a high point in McGowan’s assault repertoire.

McGowan is now charged with kidnapping for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and other counts and will likely be charged with assault charges in connection with the attack on his attorney and jury.
