The tape was not corrected for hours — enough to roar across the Internet and now Gibson is threatening a lawsuit. Huffington Post , Wonkette, and other sites were fooled by the fake segment. Gibson could indeed sue for false light, misappropriate of name or likeness and a host of other possible claims. Gibson in this segmentclearly targets Arianna Huffington and TVnewser and Hearst should all “lawyer up.”
Sanders insists that he clearly noted on the fake tape that it was a hoax. This could create an interesting parody defense. Programs like the Daily Show and Colbert Report often alter tapes or suggest absurd statements from news clips.
It is not clear is Sanders resigned or was fired but the station issued a statement that “This video was not approved by, used, or sanctioned in any way by WBAL-TV or Hearst-Argyle Television and we do not condone such behavior.”
Sanders told Breitbart.tv’s Scott Baker last week, Sanders said: “I heard the very end of it and thought, ‘Wow, that little bit could go there and it would sound funny as long I disclosed that he had not actually said it that way.'”
