California Police Officer Pleads Guilty of Civil Rights Violation in Sexual Assault

art.mug.calif.assaultFormer California police officer Feliciano Sanchez has pleaded guilty to deprivation of right under the color of law in a case where he forced a motorist to perform an act of oral sex after pulling her over on a highway.

Sanchez, 34, admitted that on, May 16, 2007, he pulled over a female driver in a traffic stop after seeing her speeding or weaving on the road. She did not have her license with her and Sanchez offered to drive her to her work — but instead took her to a parking lot and sexually assaulted her. He could be sentenced to 10 years in jail. What is strange, however, is the lack of state criminal charges — where he would be treated as a sex offender. This would usually be treated as a state offense.
