Report: Iranian Guards Routinely Force Young Girls to Marry and Then Rape Them Before Their Executions — As Moral Measure

The Jerusalem Post is reporting a shocking interview with a member of the Iranian paramilitary Basiji militia — the group accused of some of the worst atrocities in the crackdown on protesters following the recent disputed presidential election. The source is a member of the infamous Basiji. He discussed, among other things, how he and other guards would routinely rape young girls after compelled marriages in jail — because Iranian law forbids the execution of a virgin and it would have been immoral not to rape them before killing them.

The Basiji was formed by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979 as the “people’s militia” and subordinate to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. It was formed after Khomeini declared that “a country with 20 million youths must have 20 million riflemen or a military with 20 million soldiers; such a country will never be destroyed.” In the recent crackdown, they were seen riding motorcycles and clubbing protesters.

This man was willing to speak after being arrested for showing mercy on two teenagers. He stated that various Basiji have been arrested for such acts of leniency and that the government is bringing in teenagers from small villages to carry out the repressions.

What is most chilling is the part of the interview where he is asked about his greatest regrets and he reveals how he was selected to marry young girls and then rape them before their executions in the name of Islam. He states “I could tell that the girls were more afraid of their ‘wedding’ night than of the execution that awaited them in the morning. And they would always fight back, so we would have to put sleeping pills in their food. By morning the girls would have an empty expression; it seemed like they were ready or wanted to die. . . . I remember hearing them cry and scream after [the rape] was over,” he said. “I will never forget how this one girl clawed at her own face and neck with her finger nails afterwards. She had deep scratches all over her.”

The Basiji is viewed as intensely loyal to and under the control of Iran’s Supreme religious leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
