Former Chief U.N. Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter Arrested in Sex Sting

Former chief United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter, 48, has been arrested in a Pennsylvania sex sting involving a lewd Internet conversation with a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl. The charges are reportedly supported by a videotape of Ritter that (if true) makes a plea likely.
Ritter achieved fame as the chief U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991-98 and a critic of the war in Iraq. Conservatives attacked him at the time for his views, which were largely vindicated. However, Ritter was hounded by his past and his alleged habit of incriminating himself to undercover officers. He was reportedly charged in a June 2001 sex sting in New York. While dismissed, those charges reportedly involve attempted child endangerment with a person he thought was a 16-year-old girl at a fast-food restaurant. The girl was actually an undercover police officer. News reports also allege that he was arrested in April 2001 in a case involving a 14-year-old girl. Again, he was never charged.
The facts of the current arrest are pretty disgusting so I will allow the original article fill in the details. Judging from the facts and videotape described in this arrest, this is not likely to result in another dismissal. Indeed, if true, most lawyers would push for a plea.
