Long Arm of the Law: Video Captures Police Beating Tasered Suspect

YouTube PosterThis video of Winnipeg police officers repeatedly beating Cody Bousquet during an arrest on February 27, 2009. Bousquet reportedly had been tasered by the officers. One of the officers Const. Ryan Law was previously arrested for aggravated assault for kicking a suspect in the stomach in an interrogation room. He is the nephew of the Chief of Police.

Bousquet was accused of driving dangerously and assaulting an officer. The video came from a security camera.

Chief Keith McCaskill has recused himself in light of his nephew’s involvement.

The assault charge is particularly worthy of investigating. While there may be an assault not shown on this video, we have also seen such charges added when a suspect is severely beaten. The other question is whether any of the other officers who witnessed the beating had voluntarily revealed the information before this security camera tape materialized.
