
THe Nevada man says that his iPad disappeared on a flight and he decided to use the tracer app. Dye, 43, insists that she intended to return it to the airline, but police say that she had already put personal information on the iPad when it was recovered, including her husband’s birthday.
Notably, this is the second time that the tracer app has been used by a victim to find a stolen device. Previously, we discussed the case of a TSA employee found with multiple stolen devices. These types of private investigations present interesting issues since citizens are not subject to the limitations of the fourth amendment and other laws governing searches and seizures. They can also raise dangers if the private citizens confront the alleged culprits.
