iArrest: Horizon Air Flight Attendant Arrested For Stealing Passenger’s iPad

Horizon Air Flight Attendant Wendy Ronelle Dye has been arrested for allegedly stealing the iPad of a passenger. The arrest came after the owner used an App called “Find My iPad” to locate it in her home.

THe Nevada man says that his iPad disappeared on a flight and he decided to use the tracer app. Dye, 43, insists that she intended to return it to the airline, but police say that she had already put personal information on the iPad when it was recovered, including her husband’s birthday.

Notably, this is the second time that the tracer app has been used by a victim to find a stolen device. Previously, we discussed the case of a TSA employee found with multiple stolen devices. These types of private investigations present interesting issues since citizens are not subject to the limitations of the fourth amendment and other laws governing searches and seizures. They can also raise dangers if the private citizens confront the alleged culprits.

  1. This is hardly news….search for “TSA steals”….LOTS of examples!!

In fact my son’s luggage was stopped by the TSA in a Chicago layover, but there was NO REASON to since they are the only ones that handled it.

I called the TSA and told them the only reason it was stopped was to be searched for stuff to steal.

Of course they were in denial, but tried to explain why they would search the bags again long enough to not make the transfer to his next flight.

    Complete BS!!

    How about http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/4806089/Laptop-thief-shamed-on-YouTube

    or http://www.staffmonitoring.com/P32/Laptop_Cop.html

Do thieves have a reasonable expectation of privacy – that should not be violated by the hardware (containing the private information of others) that they steal? 🙂

The ex-wife broke her cell phone then she went and got a replacement. Exact same kind of phone. You can return the phone and void the contract if you do it before 90 days. I saw her working the replacement phone and she said “the stupid shi* didn’t even know enough to delete the information.”

  3. You know we can put a man on the moon, and a tracking device in our Ipods. Any chance we can put a tracking device on the moon to follow our tax money as it circles the globe. :o) …. somedays I feel that it too is being stolen.

  4. “Dye, 43, insists that she intended to return it to the airline”

The oldest excuse in the e-Book.

    Dredd,

All devices I have have that app as well as alarms and remote wipes….. Which then embeds the hard drive rendering the device useless…….

  7. I have a similar App on both my Android phone and tablet…. In today’s culture of low morals, this becomes an absolute must…. Thieving people beware… you are being watched.
