India Leaders Face Rape Crisis . . . By Banning Lingerie Mannequins

220px-LingerieThere are some obvious answers about the cause of the epidemic of rapes in India. There is the religious and culture treatment of woman in traditional areas. There is hostility of police to rape victims. However, the municipal council in Mumbai sees the cause elsewhere . . . lingerie mannequins. The council voted overwhelmingly to ban the ceramic vixens to prevent rape in the city.

City council member Ritu Tawde came up with the idea because she viewed the mannequins as degrading women and inciting men:
“Such people get provoked by mannequins. After all, a mannequin is a replica of a woman’s body. That’s why I oppose it, because mannequins do not suit Indian culture,.” I am afraid that I am unconvinced that the mannequin menace is the cause of problem.

This suggestion comes after police recommended women simply do not go out and carry chili powder in India.

In the meantime, an American woman was added to the tally of rape victims this week. The 30-year-old American woman was gang-raped in the northern Indian resort town of Manali after she was hitchhiking back to her guest house.
