Hare And Hype: Iowa Professor Resigns After Admitting To Faking AIDS Vaccine Research

IowaStateUniversitySealIowa State University professor Dr. Dong-Pyou Han has resigned after admitting he falsely claimed results to suggest a breakthrough in a vaccine for the AIDS vaccine.  Han received a $19 million grant after reporting that rabbit blood could be turned into a vaccine. Turns out it was just hare and hype.

various researchers expressed disbelief about the findings that the rabbit blood produced human antibodies. Han later resigned from the university an assistant professor of biomedical studies and agreed last month not to seek government contracts for three years. That is a good deal given the fact that such misrepresentation could be viewed as fraud. Indeed, the federal government wanted to incarcerate people who lied about military service without receiving financial benefits. However, a $19 million grant based on false research was not treated as a criminal matter.
