Iran Jails 12 Models For “Vice” After Merely Modeling Clothes

We have yet another example of Islamic Sharia “law” after an Iranian court eight female modes and four male models to jail for simply modeling clothes. Declaring such standard pictures as unIslamic and “vice,” the models were sentenced to periods ranging from one year to six years.

Last May, the Revolutionary Guards cracked down on the fashion industry including eight arrests of fashion industry workers. Models are charged with modeling without hijabs or wearing facial makeup or simply “un-Islamic dresses.”

The latest sentences were issued in the city of Shiraz, where the court agreed that the models failed to cover their hair and were part of photos “encouraging moral degradation” and “exhibiting Western fashion online and on social media.” The court went further in banning the models from travel and from employment in fashion-related jobs for two years after they finish their jail terms.

Recently we discussed the controversy in Iran’s rival Saudi Arabia over the mere posting of a picture on social media of a woman without a hijab.
