We Apologize But Have No Regrets: Danish Newspaper Reaches Agreement With Muslim Groups Over Mohammed Cartoons

Danish daily Politiken has issued a perfectly bizarre apology for reproducing the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in 2008. The newspaper reached an agreement with eight Muslim organizations to apologize without expressing regret.

In a controversial move, the newspaper apologized to Muslims everywhere for possibly offending them: “We apologise to anyone who was offended by our decision to reprint the cartoon drawing.” However, the newspaper said it did not regret publishing the cartoons. It is the first apology of any of the newspapers that published the cartoons out of solidarity after violence and death threats directed at the cartoonist and his publisher.

The organizations from Australia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian territories claimed to represent 94,923 descendants of the Muslim prophet.
