Jackson Attorney

As I write this, the news is still coming in, and the full story is far from being told. I will provide breaking news as I hear it, but our intrepid bloggers should consider the comments an Open Thread. If you have solid news to report, please do so, and source the information. Otherwise it is just gossip.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that conspiracy theorists are breaking out the tinfoil hats.
What do we know about the death of Mississippi attorney Mark Mayfield? He lived in Ridgeland, Mississippi, a bedroom suburb just north of the city of Jackson. He was 57 years old. About 9:00 Friday morning, he was found dead in his home of a single gunshot wound. There was a note, but authorities have not revealed the contents. That is not unusual. When I worked in the state that was general policy with investigators across the state. Sometimes suicide notes are poignant, sad, and express intense pain. Other notes have content so gross or inflammatory they could not be printed in a family newspaper. In cases of suicide notes, the families often are reluctant to permit release to the public. In other cases, the note may implicate other people in a crime, or include confidential information. If the latter is the case, release of the content of a suicide note risks compromising an ongoing investigation, especially if sealed indictments are involved. Nothing should be read into it if the note contents are not released and made public.
Mayfield was a major supporter of the Tea Party in Mississippi. They fielded a candidate to run against Senator Thad Cochran in the Republican primary, Chris McDaniel. During the run-up to the primary, several men gained illegal entry into the nursing home where Senator Cochran’s wife was staying. She has Alzheimer’s disease. The actual break-in was actually implemented by a Tea Party blogger named Clayton Kelley, who was arrested. A photo of Mrs. Cochran was posted on a website, presumably Kelley’s. It was taken down a short time later.
Kelley was arrested along with four men, including lawyer Mayfield. The others arrested in the incident were Richard Sager, a high school coach and John Beachman Mary of Hattiesburg. Mary was not taken into custody because of what were described as “extensive medical conditions.”
All the men face felony conspiracy charges. I have not found a complete list of all the charges, but I am sure some would have been added later. For one there is a major HIPAA violation.
My take on this as a professional who has worked in the field for more than forty years, is that Mayfield felt he had no options left. His career as a lawyer was over. He knew he would lose his license to practice and almost certainly was going to be sent to prison. Life as he knew it in the past was ended; that is, after he was released from prison.
There are many professions where one can recover and rebuild after a conviction. Martha Stewart is an example of reinventing oneself. On the other hand, actor Fatty Arbuckle never was able to reestablish a career. Having made a study of suicide over the years, and taught a doctoral level course on Thanatology, there is one overriding element almost all suicides have in common. The subject believes there is literally no way out of the bleak situation they are in. That leads to a feeling of hopelessness. This in turn causes a kind of tunnel vision in which they can envision only one way out.
Setting political issues aside for a moment, I believe this is a time for empathy for Mark Mayfield’s family and loved ones. His criminal defense attorney, Merrida “Buddy” Coxwell is a long time acquaintance of mine, and I believe he expressed it as well as I can, “…he was a client, but more importantly, he was a friend for almost 34 years. My heart is completely broken. This is beyond tragic and the people of this community and state have lost a good man…”
The recriminations can start later. I will say; however, that my contacts in Mississippi tell me the Tea Party regulars have tight sphincter syndrome regarding what Mayfield may have put in that note.

Yes, I noticed that. Back with a new streamlined site design. Stonekettle Station has some of the best writing on the internet. Jim Wright is not just a writer, he is an artist with the written word. His most recent piece on immigration is brilliant writing.

** But Hosemann, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show, received multiple payments from Cochran’s campaign PAC Citizens For Cochran. For instance, on March 25, the FEC documents show that Cochran’s campaign paid Hosemann personally two separate payments worth a total of $5,000 for in-kind campaign materials. That same day, the FEC records show, Hosemann’s campaign “Friends of Delbert Hosemann” received another $2,500 from Cochran’s campaign. **

Cochran challenger asks court to open poll records
0 0 0 New
By JEFF AMY
The Associated Press
JACKSON, Miss. —
The challenger who narrowly lost a Republican primary runoff to incumbent U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran is taking his quest to view original voting records to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
State Sen. Chris McDaniel is trying to prove that some people who voted in the June 24 runoff also voted in the June 3 Democratic primary, which would be illegal. His goal is to force another runoff.
On Monday, he asked the court for an emergency order forcing Harrison County Circuit Clerk Gayle Parker to let him see original copies of poll books.
McDaniel’s lawyers maintain state law gives them access to original records, including voter birthdates. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and some county clerks say the law bans the release of birthdates and McDaniel must accept copies with that information redacted.

Stanley,
Last post for now.
Why is it I often feel so cock sure of my opinions?
Because I’ve actually read many of the govt’s own documents of our govt & others & of NGO’s that explained exactly their intent & their policy papers.
(btw: 70% of the US Border Patrol has been pulled off the border. AKA: US/Mexico border is now Wide Open!)
Here is just another small piece of a far larger ball that has already been set into motion decades back:

Stanley,
A while back I asked you the question of why Law Enforcement Leaders were largely failing to discipline or take appropriate legal action against patrolmen that went crazy on the job.
For what ever reason you didn’t respond nor do you need to now if you wish not to.
The only to reasons I could think of as to why leadership was intentionally failing to act were:
1. LE leadership wishes to destroy public confidence in our government institutions. ie:LE for one
2. LE leadership is using their lawless actions as a hidden way to warn us citizens to no long trust LE as it has been compromised by National Militarization of LE.
I’m not sure the exact cause, but the resulting outcome seems clear to me & I don’t like the looks of it whatever the reason.
Here’s a piece of the Preamble to the Bill of Rights:
** Congress OF THE United States
begun and held at the City of New-York, on Wednesday the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.
THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution. **

And here appears to be yet another of the thousands acts lunacy by another patrolmen. (I’ve not studied the case in depth, but I’ve seen enough to see the trend.)

Stanley,
While we wait on the forensic investigation of attorney Mark Mayfield’s death to be completed & further news from the possible Mississippi Senate primary recount I’ll go ahead with a few other items.
First, some house keeping.
A piece of advice I really liked in that video: Titanic – Hymn to the sea Uilleann Pipes remember, was the lines below.
“Always remember all the good things, and don’t ever regret anything, you will get a chance to redeem your self.”
I bring this up this time in regards to Gene H’s website.
I think Gene H was handling his opinions & website very well. I’ve no problems I know of with Gene.
Nor do I know of any major problems with you. I addressed a couple of concerns I had with you in a above post.
Many/most times I agree with your guy’s opinions.
Now I did run into a few snags with a couple of the other author’s & a couple of posters on Gene’s site.
Maybe over time those concerns over their opinions could be addressed.
Yet as I’ve heard said around here: Everyone comes to Jesus in their own time.
I hope they get their chance to redeem themselves, but I’ve not the time, I like them & don’t wish to be rude or insensitive towards them.
They can change their opinions if the wish too.
It took former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker & Former Asst. Treasury Paul Craig Roberts 30-35 years before they each changed their opinions to match mine. Up until then I remained ticked off with them & now I’m fine with them & enjoy having them as allies.
Anyway, I just wanted to clear the air on this & hopefully I’ll find the time to pass this along to Gene H.
We’ve Crossed The Tipping Point; Most Americans Now Receive Government Benefits
7/02/2014 @ 4:45PM
Obamacare has pushed us over the entitlements tipping point. In 2011 some 49.2 percent of U.S. households received benefits from one or more government programs—about 151 million out of an estimated 306.8 million Americans—according to U.S. Census Bureau data released last October.
Currently, around 6 million to 7 million Americans who have signed up for Obamacare are receiving taxpayer-provided subsidies (though the administration’s numbers cannot be trusted, it’s all we have to work with). There are another 3 million who have signed up for Medicaid.
That means some 10 million Americans—or a total of about 161 million—are now getting government subsidies (though the final number might be somewhat lower since some may have been receiving benefits already).
Thus, perhaps 52 percent of U.S. households—more than half—now receive benefits from the government, thanks to President Obama. And Mr. Entitlement is just getting started. If Obamacare is not repealed millions more will join the swelling rolls of those dependent on government handouts.
Conservatives have long dreaded the day when the U.S. crossed the halfway mark because of all the implications for individual and fiscal responsibility. As Benjamin Franklin reportedly said, “When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” They learned that from the 2008 election and turned out in big numbers again in 2012. more…..

Federal judge orders IRS to explain emails lost by key official in tea party investigation
39 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge ordered the IRS Thursday to explain under oath how it lost a trove of emails to and from a central figure in the agency’s tea party controversy. U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan gave the tax agency a month to submit the explanation in writing. Sullivan said he is also appointing a federal magistrate to see if lost emails can be obtained from other sources. Sullivan issued the order as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group. He said the IRS declaration must be signed, under oath, by the appropriate IRS official. “I’m going to hold tight to that Aug. 10 declaration,” Sullivan said. The IRS says it lost the emails in 2011 when Lois Lerner’s computer crashed. At the time, Lerner headed the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. She has since retired. more….

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the carrier of the plague. You have unbarred the gates of Rome to him.”
