As my children constantly lament, I have long been a fan of country music. Accordingly, I could not resist this tempest in a teapot over at MSNBC where the network has had to apologize for the comments of Ebony.com senior editor Jamilah Lemieux who was mocking the statement of Senator Ted Cruz that he switched from rock to country music after 9/11. Lemieux quipped “nothing says ‘let’s go kill some Muslims’ like country music.” Yikes. Lemieux’s comments came on the MSNBC program “Now with Alex Wagner” and she appeared with Michael Steele and Joan Walsh. Lemieux added, “Fresh from Lynchburg, Virginia, so he obviously doesn’t want to be a polarizing candidate, he wants to bring people together. That’s absurd.” This would be akin to saying “nothing says ‘let’s go kill some cops’ like rap music.” As a country music fan, I will only note that country music is far more likely to be singing about your typical Cheatin’ heart than your Chechen rebels. Visiting host Ari Melber did note at the time “Well, but I mean, there’s plenty of country music that doesn’t have that message.” Melber later ended “We have a programming note. A few minutes ago on this program, a guest made a comment about country music that was not appropriate, and we want to be clear this network does not condone it.” In the end, it was a joke, folks. Country music will survive. After all, we know how to say goodbye to those who do not appreciate us. . .

Jude,
Thanks for reading my post. I was beginning to feel ignored.
You win the prize. The one topic I’ll die obsessed with is the nullification of the intent of the Founders in the Preamble, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
That is primarily freedom, which is neutrality. Bias in any form such as affirmative action was never the intent. Government cannot take money from one man to give it to another. The government cannot take college admission from one man to give it to another. The government cannot take a job from one man to give it to another. The playing field IS level and individuals have to cope with the results that life provides them. Merit is the key.
The American thesis is Freedom and Self-Reliance. Control of the means of production and redistribution of wealth in any form were precluded by the Founders and corruptly implemented by liberals and progressives as the principles of the Communist Manifesto, in diametric opposition to the founding documents and thesis.
You would have to believe that the Preamble, Constitution and Bill of Rights say “do anything you want, these documents place no limits on anything.”
You would have to believe the Preamble, Constitution and Bill of Rights are the same as the Communist Manifesto and that those documents are not different.
Do you?
I believe that America shall be reset to the words of the Preamble, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Thanks again.
” Government cannot take money from one man to give it to another.”
Oh, now I get it. It was those communist founding fathers that sneaked in that part about ” direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States”.
I guess all the good founding fathers were so busy they just forgot to read that part before they voted.
It will be interesting to see how this ‘everybody bring your own rifle’ approach to national defense influences foreign policy. I am sure that Dead-Eye Cheney and all the other neo-cons will support this one hundred percent.
Ooops! Wrong song! Ignore the one above:

“Bridge Washed Out” was written by Slim Williamson.
The bridge washed out and I can’t swim and my baby’s on the other side
When I awoke this a mornin’ the rain was a pouring down
I was gonna wed the little river girl just over the bridge across town
Now I’m a runnin’ up and down the river and my nerves are driving me wild
Cause the bridge washed out I can’t swim and my baby’s on the other side
Oh rain oh rain stop fallin’ dark clouds hurry from the sky
The preacher and my bride are waitin’ and the weddin’ bells are startin’ to chime
I can’t kiss and hold her and it’s drivin’ me out of my mind
Cause the bridge washed out and I can’t swim and my baby’s on the other side
[ guitar ]
Yeah I got one foot in the river one foot solid on the ground
I try to swim that ragin’ ol’ river but I know if I try I’d drown
There’s not a boat around me they walked on out with the tide
And the bridge washed out and I can’t swim and my baby’s on the other side
Yeah rain oh rain stop fallin’…
I said the bridge washed out and I can’t swim and my baby’s on the other side
Ok, y’all. Stop posting all these great tunes. I’m burning up my credit cards on iTunes.
Emanuelle – I think BitTorrent is still working. 😉 Could cut some costs.
Don’t really understand why people should be forced to listen to a “gay-themed” country western song. Toleration is one thing, celebration another. And the heck is “gay-themed” anyway?
Isaac, Although given a 5 year sentence for draft evasion, Ali never served his sentence. He was out on bond during his successful appeal to SCOTUS. Not a big correction, but being a former prison employee, and history teacher, I felt compelled to point that out.

I grew up when artists criticized the establishment and it’s crimes, and the crimes were much worse: Viet Nam, racism, John Birch, Goldwater, the Fourth French Republic, etc. They were real and they had talent. Joan Baez sang the songs and her husband David Harris went to jail, Muhammed Ali went to jail, Jaques Brel represented the feelings of millions by calling the right wing nuts, singes or monkeys, Danny the Red helped bring down the French Fourth Republic and went on to be a member of the German parliament. These rappers are in it for the money and the money only. They have nothing to say but so many youth pick this drivel up and it confounds the real issues. Remember when “Hope I die before I get old.” was a shocking refrain?
issac – I gave up on Joan Baez when I heard an interview with her and she said she never researched what she was singing. She just sang it. Me, I loved The Limelighters. They knew what they were singing about and they had an incredible sound.
Isn’t it strange that in this capitalistic country a rap person (I refuse to call them artists) can condone killing of police officers, and raping women in rap music, but a citizen can be arrested for saying the same thing, or a student can be suspended for uttering the words and jesters of killing and raping another person?
Of course, country music is mostly about cheating on a lover and alcohol consumption. Of the two aforementioned music genre, I pick country music, although after a while each song begins to sound the same to me.
P.S. Thanks for all the entertaining music, particularly Carolina Chocolate Drops.
What do you hear when you play a country & western music song backwards? The singer gets his house , his truck and his wife back.
And there’s my favorite C&W song “All My Exes Drive Lexus “, or was it “All My Exes Changed Their Sexes”? Whatever. I’m more of a bluegrass/folk fan.
I can listen to Norman Blake all day. Although I like Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash a lot.
MSNBC and journalism don’t correlate much. Moreover, killing persons in nation states where the majority of persons practice Islam has become equal opportunity amongst both parties in our country.
Just look at this blog: claiming to care about the woman that was barbarically murdered by a mob, yet it’s mum on the systematic killing torturing surveillance, etc. directed at Muslims.
Seriously, how does that involve you?
So?
Nothing says Country Music is homophobic like stations pulling a gay themed top billboard hit off the air… because listeners find it offensive.
Nick
I mention the industry’s reaction to their politics. So, as you put it, they were scapegoated by the industry… humm. Yet, as I noted, it wasn’t their talent that caused it.
SMH… why? Can anyone please explain?
Why stations are pulling Little Big Town’s ‘Girl Crush’ — and what that says about country radio

The Dixie Chicks were the Justin Bieber of country music. They made a political statement and had it backfire. “Politics ain’t beanbag.” If they had more talent it might have been a different outcome. If you’re ham n’ eggers, it’s best to keep your mouth shut, sing, and shake that money maker.
Yep, never happens with country music fans…
… Even when they do it, too.
Protesters Destroy Dixie Chicks CDs

Using a 33,000-pound tractor to obliterate compact discs and other items, a few hundred protesters in Bossier City, La., referring to themselves as backers of U.S. President George Bush and Barksdale…
Because the Country Western Music Industry never does it…
… Even when it does it to their own.
We know Hillary hates country music. Remember how she ridiculed Tammy Wynette? I bet her husband likes country music.
