The video below has caused a public outcry after a South Carolina school resource officer identified as Richland County Sheriff’s Department Senior Deputy Ben Fields is shown tossing a female high school student to the floor and dragging her from a classroom after she refused to get up and leave with him. Fields has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Fields, shown right from a Twitter photo, was reportedly called in because the student would not get off her cellphone or leave the class as instructed. The 15-second video shows Fields asking the student “Are You Coming With Me or am I Going to Make You? Come on. I’m going to get you up.” What follows is the scuffle where the student ends up on the floor and being pulled by Fields. Fields is heard saying “I’ll put you in jail next.”
The site Heavy has reported that Fields in the subject of a lawsuit alleging violations of the civil rights of a student at Spring Valley High School. The student, Ashton James Reese, was expelled in 2013 from the high school for “unlawful assembly of gang activity and assault and battery” and was also accused of participating in a “gang related” fight in a Walmart parking lot near the school. In the lawsuit, he is accused of “recklessly target[ing] African-American students with allegations of gang membership and criminal gang activity.”
The Columbia mayor has denounced Fields and said “We cannot and will not accept this kind of behavior from any law enforcement officer and I firmly believe that we need an independent investigation to get to the bottom of this incident and see that justice is done.”
Given that this was all about cellphone use, is there any justification for this level of force in your view?
My standards for discipline in HS are stricter than those actions caught on the screen. Come on folks, the incorrigible dilenquent female student was forced from her chair and dragged to the floor. There was no body slamming as told by the press, they should learn what a real body slam is. I’m also for giving the parents a citation, seems like they are looking for a reward. I’m for the policeman, the press blew this way out of proportion.
People are quick to comment negatively on a situation that does not hit close to home. If this was done to them personally the would be sinning a different tune. Two wrong doesn’t make it right, yes she was told 3 times by the teach and administrator to give up her cellphone and leave the class.Yes she was in the for that but, point your finger and show me a teen that is not rebellious or that is not slick with their words. The system is against capital punishment and if parents use this level off force to control a rebellious teen who behave badly, you call it child abuse. The same school administrators will call the cops and the same cops will arrest the parents. but, when this kind of force is used by an officer they should get a pat on the back for a job well done. You people are a walking contradiction, don’t get mad at the system you created, try fixing it before it gets even worst.
Girl is told by the teacher to leave the classroom. She refuses. Police officers also tells her to get up and leave. She refuses again. Gets tossed about and leaves classroom. Problem solved. Classmates are amused.
It’s back to the uniform and badge and the authority to give directions under stress. Girl decided she didn’t need to abide any of that. Thump. Thump.
This girl [nor any guy like her either] wouldn’t have survived 5 minutes when I went to school in the 40’s and 50’s. Orderly classrooms…what a concept, eh? Back then her (his) biggest worry would be that someone at the school called her parents and she got another butt kicking when she got home.
It’s okay to stand up for your rights, but it helps if you actually know them first.

See my comment above this one about Cardiff…
A teen.
A choke hold.
A todd to the floor.
A toss across the floor.
A toss into the wall.
A knee to the back.
An arrest, or TWO!
Deserved for “not obeying orders”.
UP NEXT:
She should have shown him her papers. She deserved it?

I’ve long wished that ALL police officers be drug tested especially for steroids.
Maybe Cardiff University needs the Gestapo to enforce behavior like we do here in America…

I thought when the uniformed thugs enter classrooms and begin shutting them down and/or arresting teachers and/or students was a clear social sign that Fascism is afoot!
But, this is America. I can’t ever happen here… NO?
p.s.

I even haven’t begun addressing how he tossed her around like a rag doll…
An male adult manhandling a teen girl.
sorry… this video

This video shows a different angle.
Please notice the officer’s chokehold with his right arm.
Please notice him grabbing her left leg from behind with his left hand.
Please notice it is him flipping her backward.
Anyway, you were saying she caused her chair to tip over?
Officer Fields is a strength coach. Suggest they check for steroid use.

Here is a link that might offer some insight. What you might try with the videos is to find a way to “downlevel” (meaning throttle) the size of the video that YouTube sends to you. Here is a link for this and other settings for other players:
http://www.howtogeek.com/187952/how-to-deal-with-internet-bandwidth-caps/
On the YouTube one you need to have it seems a YouTube account to select the lower connection speed.
Now if you really want to save bandwidth the way to do this is to change to either a text based web browser or a retro style browser that doesn’t use all the bells and whistles that suck your allocation dry. Flash players and ads make up a large portion of most bandwidth as do pictures.
A really simple set of text based or semi-text based browsers can be one option, but in some cases they are not smooth and silky but they are fast and low bandwidth.
I’m supposing cell phone usage during classroom hours decreases dramatically at that school. For about a day or so anyway.
It looks to me like she pops him in the jaw with her right hand as he starts to lift her out of the chair.
That little girl had a question as to who was in charge. I wonder if she learned anything.
I don’t think this is a part of this same incident, but again an overreaction by cop, the kid acted more in control.

Wow, there is a part 2 to this video. This is truly disturbing.
Wow, this is the same school, the same incident…? A school cop throwing punches at a student? WTF????
I see that someone is stirring that toxic stew he speaks of. I don’t dislike Karen. I don’t even know Karen. Again with the assumptions and assertions.
