Yesterday, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) had a much covered interaction with CNN’s Manu Raju who asked him about Trump’s criminal trial and whether he was guilty of the underlying criminal conduct. Romney responded “I think everybody has made their own assessment of President Trump’s character, and so far as I know you don’t pay someone $130,000 not to have sex with you.” I have previously defended Romney in his votes on impeachment despite our disagreement on the constitutional standard. I also understand that he was making a more general comment on character. However, his response is precisely what Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is seeking from the jury: a verdict on Trump as a person rather than the underlying criminal allegations.
Trump is currently facing 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree regarding payments made to Daniels during the 2016 presidential election. As I discuss today in the New York Post, many of us (including liberal legal experts) still question whether there is any crime alleged by Bragg. Raju reasonably asked Romney for his own view.
Romney is an interesting person to ask. He is not only a critic of the President from within his own party but he is a former businessman who has had to deal with complex reporting and business obligations.
Romney’s response must be encouraging for Bragg. Rather than address the ambiguous criminal allegation, Romney suggested that Trump was guilty as charged in having a tryst with a former porn star.
The defense is not contesting the payment and the fact of the affair is not central to the allegations. The question is whether the payments were unlawfully denoted as legal expenses with the intent to somehow steal the 2016 election.
It is not a crime to use a NDA or other means to quash an embarrassing story. Bill Clinton had a host of lawyers quashing allegations of affairs and sexual assaults throughout his presidency. He ran into trouble when he committed perjury in the effort to hide what Hillary Clinton called one of his “bimbo eruptions.”
Moreover, denoting this as a legal expense, on the advice of counsel, is not necessarily wrong. It is not clear how it should have been to be denoted. A “nuisance payment”? The campaign of Hillary Clinton and its general counsel Marc Elias hid the funding of the Steele dossier as a legal expense and was fined by the government for doing so. They litigated the question and insisted that that is precisely what it was.
Romney is precisely what Bragg is looking for in these jurors. Smart and savvy, he still viewed the question of the trial as whether Trump had an affair with Stormy Daniels. If so, it was not a legal expense. Yet, quashing the story and avoiding any litigation was a legal matter with the eventual crafting of the NDA.
There are a lot of motivations for NDAs of this kind. Trump was married. He was the host of a hit television show (with a clause on termination for scandalous conduct). And, yes, he was also seeking to be president. He wanted these stories killed and friends like David Pecker were helping in that effort. What those facts say about the former president’s “character” will remain a matter of public debate and, as Romney said, most long ago reached their own conclusions. Yet, it is the crime not the character of Trump that is at issue in Manhattan.
Alvin Bragg would like the trial to remain a verdict on character, which is why he started the trial discussing not the Daniels matter but an uncharged affair and settlement with a former Playboy bunny. It is why he fought hard (and succeeded) in being able to question Trump about past cases involving an alleged assault and fraudulent conduct. As legal experts continue this week to debate if there is even a crime alleged in the indictment, Bragg is making a case that Trump’s lack of character is beyond a reasonable doubt.
To be fair, Romney was not giving a full interview on the case in his statement to CNN and may well have some reservations about the Bragg indictment. However, Bragg is likely hoping that “everybody has made their own assessment of President Trump,” including twelve jurors currently sitting in the Manhattan courtroom.
“I think everybody has made their own assessment of President Trump’s character, and so far as I know you don’t pay someone $130,000 not to have sex with you.”

Abstract
-“Movie Star named in Magazine Inquiry”
-Robert Kennedy had a romantic affair with Marilyn Monroe; He promised to divorce his wife to marry Monroe, however she realized that “Bobby” had no intention of marrying her.
– Monroe was dropped from her contract with 50th Century Fox due to her unreliability, being late for set, etc. They were also experiencing financial difficulties due to the expenditures caused in filming “Cleopatra.”
– Monroe called Kennedy to tell him the news of her contract being canceled and he told her he would take care of everything. When nothing was done, she called him again and threatened to disclose their affair.
-Marilyn Monroe died on March 4, 1962 from a drug overdose. It was ruled a suicide.

Mittens, apparently, doesn’t know that John F. Kennedy et al. got it for free.
JFK, Monster
By Timothy Noah“I knew that John F. Kennedy was a compulsive, even pathological adulterer, given to taking outlandish risks after he entered the White House. I knew he treated women like whores. And I knew he had more than a few issues with his father about toughness and manliness and all that. But before I read in the newspaper that Mimi Alford’s just-released memoir, Once Upon A Secret: My Affair With President John F. Kennedy And Its Aftermath, described giving Dave Powers a blow job at JFK’s request and in his presence, I didn’t know that Kennedy had an appetite for subjecting those close to him to extreme humiliation.
This part of Alford’s story doesn’t really add anything to what we already know about Kennedy. Nor does it really change my opinion of the 35th president. But this part does:
Dave Powers was sitting poolside while the President and I swam lazy circles around each other, splashing playfully. Dave had removed his jacket and loosened his tie in the warm air of the pool, but he was otherwise fully clothed. He was sitting on a towel, with his pants leg rolled up, and his bare feet dangling in the water.
The President swam over and whispered in my ear. “Mr. Powers looks a little tense,” he said. “Would you take care of it?”
It was a dare, but I knew exactly what he meant. This was a challenge to give Dave Powers oral sex. I don’t think the President thought I’d do it, but I’m ashamed to say that I did. It was a pathetic, sordid, scene, and is very hard for me to think about today. Dave was jolly and obedient as I stood in the shallow end of the pool and performed my duties. The President silently watched.
Afterwards, Alford says she was “deeply embarrassed,” and as she climbed out of the pool she “could hear Dave speak in as stern a tone as I ever heard him use with his boss. ‘You shouldn’t have made her do that,’ Dave said. ‘I know, I know,’ I heard the President say. Later, a chastened President Kennedy apologized to us both.” Alford believes that Kennedy showed “his darker side … when we were among men he knew. That’s when he felt a need to display his power over me.” Kennedy didn’t just have a thing for Social Register girls; he had a thing for humiliating Social Register girls. He also had a thing for humiliating his fellow Irishman, Dave Powers.

“Clinton pays Paula Jones $850,000”
Associated Press Wed 13 Jan 1999 13.15 EST
“WASHINGTON (AP) – Paula Jones is awaiting the arrival of an $850,000 cheque from President Clinton, bringing an official end to the four-year saga spurred by her allegations of sexual harassment.”
Bill Clinton as enabled for decades by Hillary Clinton:
1. Eileen Wellstone (1969) Allegation: Sexual assault
2. Anonymous female student at Yale University (1972) Allegation: Sexual assault
3. Anonymous female student at the University of Arkansas (1974) Allegation: Sexual assault
4. Anonymous female lawyer (1977) Allegation: Sexual assault
5. Juanita Broaddrick (1978) Allegation: Rape
6. Carolyn Moffet (1979) Allegation: Sexual assault
7. Elizabeth Ward (1983) Allegation: Unclear
8. Sally Perdue (1983) Allegation: Unclear
9. Paula Jones (1991) Allegation: Sexual harassment
10. Sandra Allen James (1991) Allegation: Sexual assault
11. Christy Zercher (1992) Allegation: Sexual assault
12. Kathleen Willey (1993) Allegation: Sexual assault
If this were true, the Secret Service would have been present and there would have been seperate disclosures. After all, the Secret Service hated JFK and was happy when LBJ took over. But there’s no such corroboration of this story. On that basis, this story lacks credibility.
So says the duplicitous fraud with no name.
Aninnynonymous knows “incredible,” the perfect dearth of veracity and integrity.
“From the horse’s mouth,” this account “seperates” [sic] you from the facts and reality, Mr. Twilight Zone.
You go, boy!
Huh? Did you drink too much Colt 45 this morning? Is sound like an incoherent dope.
The secret services primary job is fighting counterfeiting. They have only had a significant role protecting the president AFTER the JFK assassination. Nor am I sure where your claim that the Secret Service Hated JFK comes from. The CIA was at odds with JFK, the DOD was at odds with JFK. but not aware of some loathing on the part of the Secret Service for JFK.
Several agents involved in Kennedy’s protective details have books – I am not aware of any that cite any hatred of JFK.
JFK made their job harder. Conversely Johnson was more distant from the public and likely made their job easier = but that has little to do with love or hate.
One of the best sources of inforamtion about what the Secret Service members assigned to the Presidential detail really thought about JFK. Abraham Bolden, the first Black man assigned to the Presidential detail, personally appointed to that role by President Kennedy, saw and heard first hand what the agents said about JFK and he names names. He described those experiences in his book, “The Echo from Dealey Plaza.” He also met with staff of the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations and discussed what he experienced at the Secret Service under JFK. Abraham Bolden was never sued by the people he discussed in testimony, interviews, and named in his book even though many were still alive. He’s one of my primariy source of information establishing that many in the SS despised JFK. But htere’s also the research and writings of Vince Palamara, who has interviewed virtually every SS agent who was alive during his years of research. Vince Palamara also independently confirmed what Abraham Bolden said and wrote. So, if you’re interested, their books are the ones with the details about the SS animosity toward JFK.
JFK probably was an extreme philanderer but don’t put him on level with Bill Clinton in that respect who was accused of rape
Both deserve independent historical analysis for their jobs as POTUS irrespective of sexual character faults.
they are not up for sainthood!
Anyhow, JFK was an excellent POTUS
Bill Clinton was better than Obama and Obama was better than Biden .
Dems just keep on coming up with worse candidates to appease their billionaire donor class paymasters
God bless RFK JR and keep him safe
Sal Sar
JFK purportedly had a hormonal disorder that drove and oversized libido.
He was having an affair with a German Spy during WWII – knowing it was a really bad idea.
There are lots of stories of JFK (and RFK’s) sexual exploits, the WH press were generally aware of them at the time but did not report them.
Wait. You quoted CNN? The Communist News Network went after the very same Mittens Romney when he was posing as a conservative and running for president; they revealed how Mittens caged his dog on top of his car on vacation. The guy is weird. Mitt Romney is an ingratiator. Mitt Romney’s ingratiation caused his success. Mitt Romney finds a way into a mark’s soul, then sells him something. In the moment, he assumes the mark’s values as his own, then discards them when his sale is completed. There is no there there in Mittens Romney. Mittens Romney fits perfectly in the Mormon faith, whatever the heck that is. A “conservative” Republican conjured Romneycare? Gimme a break! Mittens Romney is an R for all the good that’s worth.
George said: “Romney fits perfectly in the Mormon faith, whatever the heck that is. ”
Umm, if you profess a lack of knowledge about what some body of belief is, how can you credibly claim that some individual “fits perfectly” in it?
Nonsense + Nonsense = Nonsense x 2
Did I get it right? I did, didn’t I. I’m right, am I not?
I voted for Pierre Delecto before he was Pierre Delecto. In hindsight, I’m relieved he lost—the only good thing Barack Obama ever did was beating him
Pierre is a much stranger person than I imagined 12 years ago. Had he won, he would have gone full RINO. He has an ego and a vindictive streak that seem wildly out of keeping with the Mormon faith. I’m glad I don’t have to figure him out.
I appreciate Sen. Mitt Romney’s expert legal opinion on Trump’s guilt. And I agree that Trump’s guilt must be accepted a priori. However, I still need to hear from Pierre Delecto to get his opinion on the matter. And what about Carlos Danger’s opinion? Isn’t that also relevant and vital to assessing the truth of the matter? I think we need to reserve our final judgment on what should be done with Trump until Pierre Delicto and Carlos Danger have weighed in on the case.
You are free with respect to voting or public opinion to “accept Trump’s guilt”.
With respect to the law, you are obligated to presume he is innocent.
‘Mittens’ Romney, Ronna ‘Romney’….floating turds from the same cesspool. WEAK!
Let’s face it: Romney is a dumb guy. He has no concept of the law or ethics and is challeneged in everything except formakingmoney which his connections and status allow him to do.
I am not a huge Romney fan – but he is not dumb. Successful people never are.
“To be fair, Romney was not giving a full interview on the case in his statement to CNN and may well have some reservations about the Bragg indictment.”
Please. Romney deserves no fairness. He’s got a knife and he’s gonna twist it into Trump’s back every opportunity he gets. He’s cut from the same backstabbing cloth as Biden. They’re both small, petty, backstabbing politicians who want people to think they have character and are oh-so-principled, and better than Trump. (They’re not). Trump doesn’t backstab – he delivers it to your face. Romney is as big a scumbag, self-serving, crooked politician as the rest of them in Congress. He should have won his presidential race in 2012, but he choked, like Trump said, and it was painful to watch the man fold like the weakling he is. Utah deserves better than Romney the carpetbagger who cannot exit politics soon enough. He’s a freakin’ weirdo who blows out candles one by one on his twinkies bday cake. Where’s the barf bag.
Romney still is sore about Trump’s decision not to appointment as Secretary of State.
Except, I believe I read a document in which Cohen admits that he paid Daniels to ingratiate himself to Trump and then sent a bill.
The question the defense needs to ask Cohen is “Why did you tell Congress, under oath, that you were ashamed of lying to Melania about this stuff?”
If the payments were purely for Trump’s campaign why would Cohen have to lie to Melania about them? The only answer is that they were also made to protect Trump’s marraige which negates them being a Trump campaign finance violation.
James Comey also claimed, in front of Congress, that Trump’s first and foremost reaction to “pee tape” allegations in the Steele Dossier was to worry what Melania would think…
Jonathan: DJT is outraged. He claims that all his MAGA are being prevented from demonstrating their support for him outside the Manhattan courthouse. Like a petulant 3rd grader this is what DJT said on Truth Social yesterday:
“Thousands of people were turned away from the courthouse in Lower Manhattan by steel stanchions and police…It’s an armed camp to keep people away. Maggot Hagerman…falsely reported that I was disappointed with the crowds…”
FACT CHECK: There were not “thousands of people” in front of the courthouse yesterday. Videos from yesterday show only a handful people in front of the courthouse. Only ONE was identified as a DJT supporter. It was not an “armed camp”. The park across from the courthouse was nearly empty.
DJT is clearly disappointed that the “thousands” of his supporters have not shown up to support him. Not even Melania or Barron, or Don Jr., or Eric or Ivanka. He’s all alone and that is driving him crazy!
So your argument is that he is a bad person? What does that have to do with anything? Just because someone percieves you as a bad person does not make you guilty of a crime. I think Rachel Maddow is a bad, horrible, downright ridiculous individual who spreads lies everytime her mouth opens but that does not mean she should face criminal charges let alone be convicted based on the fact I feel she is a bad person.
Anonymous: No, my argument is not that DJT is a “bad person”. That is irrelevant in this criminal case. Bragg’s prosecutors are not going to argue that because DJT is a “bad person” he should be convicted. He is being charged with violated NY criminal statutes. That is the only thing the jury will consider.
“He is being charged with violated NY criminal statutes.”
You mean those misdemeanors with expired statutes of limitation?
Still waiting for an identification of the crime — the crime over which Bragg has jurisdiction, with a clock that hasn’t expired.
When you have half the country supporting your presidential bid, you’re not alone.
Anonymous: It’s irrelevant whether “half the country” supports DJT–although that is much in dispute. DJT was whining because “thousands” of his MAGA supporters haven’t shown up at the courthouse to support him. Only one on Tuesday–and I don’t expect that to change much throughout the trial. The Q is why aren’t you there?
We have jobs. We work. We arent trust fund kids like the brats demonstrating at Columbia
“It’s irrelevant whether “half the country” supports DJT–although that is much in dispute.”
Of course it is relevant. You want to quible over whether it is 51% or 47% ?
Trump’s MAGA supported are probably about 25% of the county – and the far left lunatics such as those ranting about killing jews are likely 10% or less. Both Biden and Trump MUST appeal to people outside the “extremes” of their party.
Trump needs to persuade less voters because the MAGA base you constantly rant about is more than double the Biden Base – which is further complicated by the fact that the Democratic base is split over the war in israel and Biden is struggling trying to avoid alienated Jews, Muslims, and Students – all of which he needs to win, while at the same time not pissing off the center.
Trump has to earn about 25% of the electorate outside his base to win. Biden has to earn about 40% because he has a smaller base.
Worse still his base is split AND the base is at odds with the rest of the country.
Purely on Platform – polls indicate a generic Repuiblican would defeate Biden 70:30 – you do not seem to grasp how deeply unpopular Biden and Democrat policies are.
Biden gets SOME advantage because there are a significant number of delusional democrats who accept that Biden is a disaster, that Republican policies are better, But Hate Trump so much they would vote for Hitler first. But those numbers are not enormous.
There are many people who dislike Biden. More than dislike Trump – but the dislike of Biden is not so visceral as the dislike of Trump.
AntiBiden voters are a hard sell for Biden. Anti-Trump voters are impossible for Trump to reach.
Conversely Enthusiasm for Trump is an order of magnitude higher than enthusiasm for Biden.
Almost no one is voting FOR Joe Biden. Millions of peopel are voting FOR Donald Trump.
There are many many other factors than this. Polls are indicating that possibly the single most important thing Driving Hispanic Men to Trump are this political lawfare. Further these are voters that will double down on Trump if you get a conviction.
Many come from places that engage in this kind of banana republic lawfare. They came here to get away from those failed systems.
Democrats have very serious long term problems with male voters, with hispanic voters, with working class voters. Over Time Republicans are going to dominate those groups. Conversely Republicans have serious problems with Single white college educated women. But things are closer with married women and particularly those with families.
Regardless the Democrat coalition is shrinking, and support for Democrat policies is evaporating.
This is not just a one election thing – it is a long term Trend.
As I have told you before – as well as the republilcans are painting this election as the end of the world.
it is important. But the democratic party is going to continue to decline until it changes course.
It should have done so after the 2016 defeat. Democrats WILL change course eventually -0 but the longer they wait the longer it will take to be competitive again and the further to the center they will have to tack.
Again today on a policiy basis – Democrats are under water by on average 40 pts.
They only remain in elections because they have successfully persauded about half of independents that Republicans are dangerous.
But that case gets far weaker the more Democrats have power and blow it.
The Recent AG Barr comments are Damning. Contra left wing nuts – Barr is NOT a big Trump fan. He has been critical of Trump from election day 2020 to the present – he is STILL very critical of Trump. But he unequivocally said – no matter how bad Trump is – 4 more years of Biden would be national suicide.
Barr is wrong – everyone underestimates the amount of failure this country can endure and survive.
But he is NOT wrong that Biden is far worse than Trump.
Further these court cases are a disaster for Democrats – people are seeing the rule of man not law. Democrats are telling us what President Trump will do – as if we all are unaware of how Trump actually governed from 2017-2020. It is really stupid to tell people what to beleive when they experienced the actual truth. Don’t beleive your lying eyes is a very poor campaign theme.
But the big deal is that democrats are DOING what they say Trump will.
In truth what the US needs is NOT Trump – what we need is a President Millei to come in which a chainsaw to Government.
Regardless what we can all be sure of is that whatever power democrats have – they will abuse, and screw up.
The Trial is political theater. YOU chose that. and you did so when your opponent is a consummate performer.
And your own candidate is a bumbling idoit.
You want to Fact Check Trumps performances. – failing to grasp that you have burned your credibility so badly – no one cares, they are not listening. If Trump says that his supporters are being driven away – no one is going to care about CNN Fact checks.
Is there a deliberate plot to keep Trump supporters away from the Manhattan courthouse ? Absolutely not.
Though with certainty the SS and NYPD would prefer that the area 1/2 mile from the manhattan courthouse was deserted.
Is the whole thing a deliberate plot to keep Trump from campaining ? Absolutely undoubtedly.
Do people beleive that 1000’s of supporters are being driven from the courthouse – maybe, maybe not.
Do they beleive that this is preventing hundreds of thousands of supporters from getting to see Trump – absolutely.
And that is of course True – those of you on the left are celebrating accomplishing that.
Dennis, sounds like you have a case of Penn1s envy.
I have no idea what the truth is – nor do you.
Trump did NOT say thousands of people were there – he said they were turned away.
I would be shocked if the SS and NYPD are not severely limited access anywhere near the manhattan courthouse.
This trial has got to be a secret service Nightmare.
The Secret Service should be petitioning Merchan not to force Trump to be in a fixed place at known times.
You appear to be clueless about secret service protection. The plans of covered people are classified. Their calendars are classified.
It is not feasible for the SS to protect someone from an assassin that knows where there target will be and when they will be there.
The Norm for SS is to vary routes, to provide at best only the most vauge of schedules.
That is not always possible, But Merchan has assured any would be assassin of exactly Where Trump will be for about 8 hours every day.
Worse NYC is an assassins paradise. The SS Tries to assure that a sniper can not get within 1/2 mile of a protectee – but 1/2 mile is a long distance – and there are tens of thousands of people who can successfully kill someone from under 1/2 mile. Small increases in distance exponentially decrease the number of people with the necescary skills.
In Manhattan it is not possible to cover every possible place someone could snipe at Trump from.
Just a few days ago a man was able to get in front of the court house with sufficient flamable fluid to immolate himself.
That with absolute certainty means the SS and NYPD failed. No one with flamable fluid should have been allowed that close.
Does Trump KNOW that NYPD and SS are NOT going to allow crowds near the Manhattan court house ?
Probably. But that does not change the truth of what he said. People ARE being prevented.
Aside from the Immolation – the riots and violence on nearby campuses must terrify the SS and NYPD.
Pro Hamas protestors shutdown the brooklynn bridge one day during Jury selection – that is likely within 1/2 mile of the Manhattan courthouse.
Do you really think NYPD or SS want ProHamas protestors within 1000 miles of Trump if they can avoid it.
Between the Trial and various protests at the moment it is likely that NYPD and SS are stressed out and stretched to their limits.
This was trivially solvable – change the venue. Get this out of NYC. The perfect place for this from a security perspective whould be a small city in a rural area. Or a relatively isolated affluent area – like the Hampton’s.
Or better yet – grasp the FACt that there is no crime and toss this nonsense.
Regardless, the FACT is Trump is going to say things you do not like – everyday on the way in, and everyday on the way out.
And the MSM is going to report them. Biden is out campaigning in PA – Trump is getting all the media attention – even on MSNBC and CNN.
As you note they are constantly fact checking him – but that all sounds petty and makes them look bad,
Regardless, What Trump says gets covered, and while Trump is NEVER going to get through to loons like you – the past 8 years have proven that Trump makes ALL coverage of him work for him.
John Say: You bizarrely claim: “Trump did NOT say thousands of people were there–he said they were turned away”. On Tuesday, the day he was complaining about, no one was turned away by the police. the videos of the park showed only a handful of people in front of the courthouse. Only in the figment of your mind and that of DJT were there thousands who were turned away!
As if Romneys character isn’t as flawed as any clown who seeks such positions. His focus on paying for sex is probably because he pays for sex. People don’t recognize whats not in themselves in others. What they do recognize is because its a trait of their own.
Interesting. I heard your perspective in the teaching of Zen teacher Cheri Huber. Do you know her?
If you use personal character as your litmus test for the acceptability of a candidate you are going to be disappointed every single time. There is only one factor to just someone running for office and that is do their proposed policies benefit you and the nation as a whole? Nothing else matters.
Mitt Romney has, by his own hand, created his place in politics and history. While there may be some positives, the bulk of his career over the past decade has been marked by inappropriate statements, equivocation, political stumbling and hesitancy when the exact opposite was required. As in this fateful statement during his campaign for POTUS:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it — that that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. … These are people who pay no income tax. … [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
Mitt, you were prescient to an extent in your statement. You did not convince anywhere close to a majority of the “people” that you deserved to be POTUS. And, based on your behavior since, the “people” were better off without you. And that meaning that Obama stayed on as POTUS, that says a lot.
Don’t go away mad, dilecto. Just go away.
It’s meant to make Trump look bad,
keep him in court instead of campaigning,
and chip away enough votes to say ‘that’s why he lost’.
Then when people say the Dems cheated again,
this and the other trials can be a smoke screen/cover.
Getting him in jail would just be the icing on their cake.
Jonathan: The Manhattan criminal case is not about DJT’s “character”–whether he is a bad person. Had DJT not been running for president in 2016 I doubt he would really have cared whether Melania learned about his sex with Stormy Daniels or Karen McDougal. DJT had cheated on his wives for years. He bragged about it on the “Access Hollywood” tapes. No doubt Melania probably knew all about the man she was marrying.
The real reason for the “hush money” payments and the NDAs was to keep voters from learning about his sex outside of marriage that DJT knew would impact his chances of getting elected president. The “catch and kill” scheme was only part of DJT’s plan. DJT fed David Pecker with salacious and false stories about his rivals for the GOP nomination. He had Pecker publish a false story that a member of Ted Cruz’s family was involved in the JFK murder. So this case is more about DJT’s attempt to interfere in the 2016 election–and raises the charge to a felony. It’s not about his bad “character”.
Many people who commit crimes are not otherwise of bad “moral character”. Mafia Don’s often lead good family lives. They are good to the kids and don’t cheat on their wives. The problem with DJT is that while cheating on his wives he has also violated the law: Two civil judgments for raping E. Jean Carroll, two judgments for committing systematic business fraud and now criminal prosecutions for violating NY laws, trying to overturn an election he lost and stealing top secret classified material. It appears you are the one asking the “wrong question”.

Dennis, what about HRC paying to get the Trump/Russia collusion Dossier out there, then lying for a year saying they hadn’t done so until it was proven in court and they were fined? Not jailed, oddly enough, and there certainly wasn’t as much of a fuss made about it in the press. Was that election interference? Wait, I can answer that: YES, it was. For 2016, 2020, and 2024. Plus it’s helped stir things up so much we’re much closer to WW3. Seems way worse than what you’re talking about. Since you’re always telling Mr. Turley what he should/shouldn’t write about, why aren’t you mentioning any of this, or outraged even more about it? -Cat
Dennis can’t “hear” a thing you say. Here’s what I have accepted: MSNBC, and the rest of the propaganda Pravda press, have done a number on the public. They have succeeded in their mission to thoroughly wash the pea brains of useful idiots like Dennis. These people are not persuadable. They are brainwashed. Everything they believe is a lie. No amount of facts, evidence or reason will EVER penetrate their mush brains. They are programmed. They will never come around, nor be persuaded, no matter the reality laid before them. So why bother?
These propagandized Democrats believe Trump is the next coming of Hitler.
They BELIEVE Trump is worse than Hitler.
They believe Trump IS Hitler.
They will never be persuaded otherwise.
Anonymous said: “They believe Trump IS Hitler.

Assuming Trump is elected, and none of the draconian, authoritarian, stuff that the TDS bozos predict actaully happens, do you think their brains will implode, or that they will just move on to another delusion?
Agree. Have seen if he would respond in other posts, but he doesn’t.
Which just delegitimizes his comments each and every time.
Because he wouldn’t be able to back up his accusations etc. without the partisan propaganda.

We did know about these accusations before 2016 election and still voted for him anyway. Not electing a pope!
Let’s face it, not everybody can be as perfect as Brain Salad Joe, the Child Sniffer!
Of course not an iota of what you say is in the actual charges advanced by District Attorney Alvin Bragg. They are totally irrelevant to the charge of “Falsifying business records in the first degree” which is, of course, the actual charge.
This charge is limited to eleven checks, eleven invoices, and twelve general ledger entries. Nothing more.
A defendant is only tried on the charges alleged. Nothing else is relevant.

How many people you know would have voted differently if they heard the Stormy story? The whole country already knew he would just “grab them by the p****” at that point. Apparently the story wasn’t worth much or else Stormy would have gotten way more than a measly $130K. You don’t think she shopped around?
If you think that is election interference worthy of prosecution, then why not prosecute
1) Biden’s campaign for asking 51 former intelligence officials to sign a letter claiming the Hunter laptop was “Russian disinformation”, all the while knowing it was real
2) Hillary for funding the debunked Steele dossier and lying about it
?
Thank you JT for obfuscating the truth. The trial is barely 2 days old and you are wondering what the crime is?
JT chides Romney for his comments yet JT is arguing there is no crime because 2 days into the trial the you don’t think they have done their job to outline the crime. Well thank you JT for that concise legal analysis. You are taking your defense attorney role way too seriously here. But you know, and most of the people reading this should know, truth is not your intent. You want your client to get off no matter what you have to do. trump has been scamming people for a very long time. The chickens have come home to roost.
Theory of the case should be clear from the start. Two days in, it’s pathetic that these questions remain. JT is on target

Actually Bragg is looking for jurors who can recognize cooked books being used to violate election finance regs….
Not a problem for R apologists like yourself, Jon. But illegal in a way you’d be losing your mind over if this involved a D.
Well…, sidebar…
I can see you’re still losing your mind over Bragg’s refusing to squash this case after your friend Barr squashed SDNY on it while trump was in office.
Bar squashed the feds involvement. Indeed he did. But why? Maybe Barr was covering for trump and not interested in justice? Do a search, see what you can find out.
I’ve always viewed Romney as a wealthy guy who was bored, had nothing to do, so he ran for office to do it in DC.
Margot Ballhere said: ” a wealthy guy who was bored, had nothing to do, so he ran for office to do it in DC.”
That is far too benign an assessment of Romney. He has done a lot of damage in his political career. He amply demonstrates the premise that, while nearly all politicians are execrable, legacy politicians are the very, very worst.
Indeed Romney has damaged hi political career by calling trump an ass. How dare someone call the dear cult leader an ass.
