Below is my column in Fox.com on the authentication of Hunter Biden’s laptop in the Delaware trial. The government has denounced the Russian disinformation claims as a “conspiracy theory” and put on evidence that there is no evidence of tampering with the laptop. The FBI declared the laptop to be “real” and “authentic” and the court agreed. It was introduced as evidence before many reporters who previously embraced the debunked “conspiracy theory.” As discussed below, Houdini’s elephant was just revealed on stage and most of the audience looked away.
Here is the column:
Watching the coverage this week out of Delaware was like finding oneself in a parallel universe. There were ABC, NBC, CBS, the Washington Post and other news outlets reporting matter-of-factly that the Hunter Biden laptop showed no evidence of tampering and was both real and authentic.
These are the same outlets, and some of the same reporters, who eagerly spread the false claims that the laptop was “Russian disinformation.”
Yet, what followed the testimony of FBI agent Erika Jensen was absolute crickets. There was no effort to track down the signatories of the now-debunked letter from former intelligence officials just before the election. In the letter, figures such as Leon Panetta, former CIA director in the Obama administration, claimed that the laptop had all the markings of a Russian disinformation effort by intelligence services. (Panetta continued to make the assertion even in late 2023 in pushing what the federal government is now calling a “conspiracy theory.”)
There was no attempt by the media to confront associates of the Biden campaign (including now Secretary of State Antony Blinken) who pushed a long effort to get former intelligence officials to sign a letter.
There was no attempt to question President Joe Biden, who made this false claim in the presidential election to deflect any questions about the evidence of corrupt influence peddling on the laptop.
Years ago, I wrote that the Biden campaign had pulled off the single greatest political trick in history. As I wrote back then, the key to this Houdini-esque trick was to get the media to invest in the deception like audience members called to the stage.
Houdini used to make his elephant Jennifer disappear on stage every night because he knew that the audience wanted her to disappear. They were part of the act. The Bidens made the media part of the act, and these reporters have to back the illusion or admit that they were part of the deception.
They are all laptop deniers, but they know that there are few who will call them to account for their conspiracy theory. Rather, it is social media where readers can see videos of leading media claiming that the laptop is the work of Russian intelligence.
In 2020, CBS News’ Lesley Stahl literally laughed mockingly at then-President Donald Trump when he raised the Hunter Biden laptop and what it revealed about the Bidens.
Figures like former Chief of Staff at the CIA and Department of Defense Jeremy Bash, who told MSNBC that the laptop “looked like Russian intelligence” and “walked like Russian intelligence.” He dismissed the relevance of the laptop before the election by declaring that “this effort by Rudy Giuliani and the New York Post and Steve Bannon to cook up supposed dirt on Joe Biden looks like a classic, Russian playbook disinformation campaign.”
Bash added that it made Trump an effective agent of Russian intelligence since he kept referencing the laptop: “[when] Rudy Giuliani suddenly comes forward with these mysteriously created emails, probably hacked through a Russian intelligence operation, we have to acknowledge the fact that the President of the United States is supporting, is condoning, is welcoming a Russian intelligence operation in 2020. … This is collusion in plain sight.”
Bash, like others behind the conspiracy theory, was later given an intelligence position by Biden.
The New York Times and The Washington Post both eventually verified Hunter Biden’s laptop after big tech dismissed the New York Post’s bombshell reporting during the 2020 presidential election. The Post reporting was famously censored by Twitter ahead of the 2020 election.
CNN’s Alex Marquardt told viewers, “We do know it is a very active Russian campaign.”
Indeed, the Washington Post has continued to suggest that this reporting was accurate. One of the leading purveyors of this false story was the Post’s Philip Bump, who slammed the New York Post for its now proven Hunter Biden laptop story.
In 2021, when media organizations were finally admitting that the laptop was authentic, Bump was still declaring that it was a “conspiracy theory.” Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Bump continued to suggest that “the laptop was seeded by Russian intelligence.”
After Bump had a meltdown in an interview when confronted over past false claims, I wrote a column about the litany of such false claims. The Post surprised many of us by issuing a statement that they stood by all of Bump’s reporting, including the laptop conspiracy theory. That was in August 2023.
Of course, this trick would not have been possible without the assistance of 50 former intelligence officials who were reportedly organized through Clinton campaign associates to issue the infamous letter.
These figures then continued to spread the false claim.
Former CIA Director John Brennan, one of the 50 who signed the letter, also claimed that the laptop bore “the hallmarks of Russian disinformation.”
James Clapper, a former director of National Intelligence and CNN analyst, said the laptop was “classic, textbook Soviet, Russian tradecraft at work.”
Members of Congress also repeated the false claims, including Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., who told the media not to join Giuliani as a “vehicle for Russian disinformation.”
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., former chair of the House Intelligence Committee, insisted that the laptop was clearly “Kremlin propaganda.”
This long-debunked claim was even recently repeated in Congress by Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., who claimed that the laptop could not be authenticated even though it was just authenticated and introduced in a federal prosecution.
All of those who pushed what the U.S. government is now calling a false “conspiracy theory” have flourished in the wake of Biden’s victory. Intelligence officials like Bash received plum positions while others like Clapper were given media contracts. Schiff is expected to be elected to the Senate and is running, ironically enough, on his record with intelligence investigations of Trump.
Conversely, the New York Post and reporters like Miranda Devine have received no recognition for their work in disclosing the contents and defying attacks from politicians and media alike. While reporters were given a Pulitzer for reporting the now debunked Russian collusion story, Devine and others will never receive a Pulitzer for uncovering the true story behind the laptop.
Devine, the New York Post, and others simply refused to get in on the trick. As is often said, there are some facts simply “too good to check” in the media. The Hunter Biden laptop disappeared from the stage like Houdini’s elephant because the media wanted it to disappear.
The reappearance of the laptop in a Delaware courtroom might be awkward for most people, but not the media or intelligence officials or politicians who pushed the conspiracy theory. After all, they were all in on the trick. It was the voters who were played for chumps.
Jonathan: Hunter Biden’s laptop now admitted into evidence as “authenticated”. What is in the laptop that we don’t already know from Hunter’s “tell all” book. Not much. Hunter has admitted to his long drug dependency. Whether Hunter was actually high when he signed the gun registration form will be up to the jury to decide. The MAGA Republicans have tried to use the contents of the laptop to spread a lot of misinformation. In a low point at one of the House Oversight Committee hearings MTG held up salacious photos of Hunter having sex with women. She held up the photos and bizarrely claimed Hunter was engaged in the inter-state trafficking of minors for sex. Did she offer any proof? Nope.
So let’s move on to some other important news you neglect to mention in your attempt to divert attention away from DJT’s 34 criminal felony convictions. In Vermont, the GOP is struggling with those convictions. The party rules state: “The State Committee will not support or promote any candidate for elective office who…is a convicted felon”. What will they do about that?
Then we have Steve Bannon, DJT’s co-conspirator in the attempt to over turn the 2020 election, is going to prison for 4 months because he defied the J. 6 Select Committee subpoena. The response of the MAGA crowd was swift and unhinged. DJT denounced the order and Matt Goetz declared: “It is with great sadness and anger that we observe the death of the judicial system in America…He didn’t even get a fair trial. His defenses were stripped by a judge who hates him”. MTG was similarly outraged: “The DOJ is completely corrupt”. Sound familiar? Trying to undermine the justice system is what the MAGA crowd claims when they lose in court. But do you see them complaining about the trial of Hunter Biden? Nope. They think everything is fine with the justice system in Delaware! The MAGA crowd is really demented. Bannon did get a fair trial–including his appeals. As the phrase goes: “If you do the crime, you have to do the time”!
Finally, DJT has a penchant for promising things he never actually follows through with–almost never. In April he promised to announce his plans to access abortion medication–“in the next 2 weeks”. Now it’s June. Seen any plans? Nope. Remember when DJT was president he promised to repeal and replace ObamaCare? He also had proposals on infrastructure. climate change, etc. He had 4 years to implement those proposals. Anything happen? Nope. So where are his plans for abortion medication access? Like everything else–no where to be seen. That’s because he’s too busy going around the country claiming he is the “victim” of a “rigged” judicial system. Will that claim appeal to voters in November? I think not. They are concerned about abortion access restrictions imposed by MAGA states, affordable housing, climate change, a run away right-wing Supreme Court–you know, all the really IMPORTANT issues.
Climate change is the over-heated air above your over-heated, but empty head. Just how an empty head over heats is for others to determine.

“The Trump economy was the tail end of the longest expansion in history begun under President Barack Obama and the low interest rates that went with it. Nothing Trump did added to it and he never lived up to even his own hype:
Trump assured the public in 2017 that the U.S. economy with his tax cuts would grow at “3%,” but he added, “I think it could go to 4, 5, and maybe even 6%, ultimately.”If the 2020 pandemic is excluded, growth after inflation averaged 2.67% under Trump, according to figures from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Include the pandemic-induced recession and that average drops to an anemic 1.45%. By contrast, growth during the second term of then-President Barack Obama averaged 2.33%. So far under Biden, annual growth is averaging 3.4%.
Inflation started its rise at the beginning of the pandemic (Trump’s last year) and continued to rise sharply in the first year of the Biden administration before it started to come back down. The reasons are complex but the fact that it was lower under Trump is simply a matter of timing. Trump’s economy was good but it wasn’t great even before the pandemic. He had higher unemployment than we have now, he blew out the deficit with his tax cuts and his tariffs accomplished zilch. Sure, the stock market was roaring but it’s even higher now.
Unlike Trump, who simply rode an already good economy, Biden started out with the massive crisis Trump left him and managed to dig out from under it in record time. No other country in the world has recovered as quickly and had Trump won re-election there’s little evidence in his record that he could have done the same. All he knows is tariffs and and tax cuts and he’s promising more of the same.
On the world stage, he was a disaster. From his ill-treatment of allies to his sucking up to dictators from Kim Jong Un to Vladimir Putin, everything Trump did internationally was wrong. He was impeached for blackmailing the leader of Ukraine to get him dirt on Joe Biden, for goodness sakes! Does that sound like a sound foreign policy decision? The reverberations of his ignorant posturing will be felt for a generation even if he doesn’t win another term.
And despite the alleged peacenik’s boast that he never had a war while he was president, it’s actually a lie. The US had troops in Afghanistan fighting throughout his entire term despite his promise to withdraw and there was a very ugly drone war carried out throughout his term. Trump bombed Syria and assassinated Iranian leaders and did all the things American presidents had been doing ever since 9/11. His only answer today to the vexing problems that are confronting Biden in Ukraine and Israel is to fatuously declare “it never would have happened” if he were president. On Gaza, Trump’s solution is “finish the problem” and I don’t think there’s any question about what he means by that.
Trump’s labor record was abominable, his assaults on civil rights and civil liberties were horrific and he did nothing positive on health care. There was the Muslim ban, family separations, the grotesque response to the George Floyd protests and the rollback of hundreds of environmental regulations. And then there was January 6.”
Trump was the first president since Herbert Hoover to preside over a labor market with fewer jobs than when he took office.
The inability of so many of our intelligence officials to correctly identify the origin of the laptop suggests either a worrisome failure of their competence or outright dishonesty. Your choice.

Trump and Biden have something in common: they are both convicted F… Trump is a convicted Felon (by a court in Manhattan with partisan prosecutors and judge), but Biden is a convicted Father. Yep, Professor Turley remains upset that ABC, NBC, CBS, the Washington Post and other news outlets fought to verify the contents of the laptop before the 2020 election. Here’s what the Washington Post reported on March 30, 2022:
“After the New York Post began publishing reports on the contents of the laptop in October 2020, The Washington Post repeatedly asked Giuliani and Republican strategist Stephen K. Bannon for a copy of the data to review, but the requests were rebuffed or ignored.
In June 2021, Republican activist Jack Maxey, who previously worked as a researcher for Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, delivered to The Washington Post a portable hard drive that he said contained the data. He said he had obtained it from Giuliani.
At The Post’s request, Matt Green, a Johns Hopkins University security researcher who specializes in cryptography, and Jake Williams, a forensics expert and former National Security Agency operative who once hacked the computers of foreign adversaries, separately examined two copies The Post made of the portable drive Maxey provided.
In their examinations, Green and Williams found evidence that people other than Hunter Biden had accessed the drive and written files to it, both before and after the initial stories in the New York Post and long after the laptop itself had been turned over to the FBI.

So here’s a simple question for the Professor: Did the NY Post hire security experts to analyze & verify the contents of the hard drive before Miranda Devine filed her reports?

Finally Professor Turley appears to get it (a little) – this is a regime, they all act collectively as a regime, and they are following what amounts to a state-sanctioned script, to pull off a ‘trick’.
A whoooole lot of us knew this fact before the 2020 election and were mocked/marginalized if not cancelled. Things would be very different had people awakened sooner. The levels of denial people have been living in regarding everything from parenting to Congress have been gobsmacking. I do not intend offense, but things have to be pretty damn bad for the likes of Prof. Turley or my own preternaturally sheltered and tone-deaf brother (he’s slowly waking up, too, things are too bad and too widespread to ignore anymore) to begin to question.
I’d love to say better late than never, but even if the damage the left has done even can be repaired, and I’m not sure it can, it will take generations to do (current generations are likely not up to the task), and regardless, we are simply never getting the pre-covid world back. We could still make something better than this sheet, though.

I never thought we would get back to the pre-COVID world. The world, namely the US, has been changed forever and not in a good way.
Now with NATO laying the ground work, literally, for a “land corridor” to move US troops from EU ports to the front lines in a war with Russia, aka WWIII, it appears more and more likely of dark times ahead. It is going to get worse before it gets better. Based off rhetoric coming out of the EU and the Biden admin, the momentum for war may be unstoppable.

Trump’s conviction in NYC is a move that will disrupt the city’s future dominance in the financial industry along with other sectors of the economy. It was a strategic move by the Democrats to maintain their power. At the same time, they falsely claim it was Trump’s fault, which is a blatant lie based on lies and deception. The indictment and conviction were based on lies and mistruths will be overturned after the election. New Yorkers will pay for the Democrat’s creation of an untrue crime.

The only one that comes to mind for me was the op orchestrated by Christopher Steele, using a Russian source to provide the dossier, funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Frankly, ever since the Marxists got a solid foothold inside the United States, the Russians really didn’t need to run operations externally anymore. Their “active measures” produced American operatives in entertainment, education, media, NGO’s and every 3-letter agency within the federal government. Our own intel agencies, which have conducted the same regime-change operations around the world, are now running operations in our country. We are being setup for our own color revolution.
