Today I am returning from a few days in Nashville. I have always loved this city and came back with two of my sons as part of my book tour. We had a ball from the great food to the amazing music to the outstanding historical sites. Even with temperatures at 100 (and even higher with humidity), we loved every minute in Nashville.
When we arrived in the city, we immediately went to a local favorite, Hattie B’s. While Prince’s is another favorite, the sauces at this “chicken shack” are a crowd pleaser. However, be warned: when they say “hot” they mean it. There are three categories of heat with the middle being the range that most of us are used to.
I went with the “hot” option in the middle category and, despite liking hot and spicy food, it was a bit too hot for me. However, it was delicious. I particularly liked the Pimento Mac & Cheese.
For dinner, we went to Jack’s Bar-B-Que in the middle of the music scene on the West End. It was awesome. The boys had the brisket sandwiches and found them addictive. I had the ribs and loved them. (I think, however, I might go with the brisket the next time after tasting their dishes). This is some of the best Bar-B-Que that you are going to find.
That night, we went to various bars to hear the live music. When you walk down the street, it is a cacophony of sounds from live music in dozens of bars. We went to various bars and had a great deal until I let the boys head off without their buzz-kill father (There were some perfunctory objections before they ran off to a loud bar down the street).
The next day we visited the Tennessee State Museum, which has a fantastic collection. It has a impressive collection that stretches across time, including informative films on everything from the geologic history of Tennessee to the Civil Rights period. It is free and I could not recommend it more highly. (For military history buffs like myself, it was also fun to see the rifle and kit of Sgt. Alvin York from World War I). There is also a great farmer’s market and food court next door.
Near the museum is also the State Capitol. We loved the visit. You can walk into the House and Senate floor as well as the original Tennessee Supreme Court chamber. There is also the burial place of James Polk (one of three Tennessee presidents with Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson). It is a beautiful building and the staff could not be more friendly.
We also ate at a new place that is a favorite among locals. On the way back from the museum, our cab driver said that he and many locals go to Peg Leg Porkers. We immediately asked him to drive us and it was awesome. (I was a bit less enthusiastic about the pull pork string rolls). The pulled pork and ribs were fantastic and it is clearly popular with locals.
My only regret is that our trip was too short to visit the Civil War locations. However, that just gives me an excuse to come back to this wonderful city.

I would highly recommend visiting the Chicamagua battlefield. It’s really quite sobering, edge of Tennessee and Georgia. The museum is amazing and it smells of formaldehyde for the true experience of death and destruction the men saw that gave their lives fighting for what they believed, both sides. It was a horrific fight and the artillery pieces evidence the upper hand of accuracy the Federals had over the Southern artillery and troops. Alot of people don’t realize there were only about 42M people in our Nation at that time. I also highly recommend getting an RC Cola and a moonpie for the true Southern experience. A Nu grape is pretty good too!

98% of presidents had two parents, including a father, who were citizens at the time of the candidate’s birth, as is prescribed in Book 1, Chapter 19, Section 212, of the Law of Nations, by Vattel, 1758, which the American Founders and Framers were eminently familiar with and well versed in by 1762. Vattel was substantially incorporated into the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution, and the Constitution.
The Constitution employed the phrase “natural born citizen” but did not define it. The only definition of “natural born citizen” exists in the Law of Nations, Vattel, understanding that Blackstone concerned himself with only “natural born subjects” in the context of ligeance to a liege lord or king within a monarchy, having no relationship to the letter, spirit, and novel form of citizen self-governance in America.

Take Rudy Giuliani. He is the disgraced former high profile attorney for DJT who defamed Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. Rudy owes them $148 million in damages. That award was in Dec. of last year. Throughout the litigation Rudy bobbed and swerved. He refused to provide his income, defied court orders and tried to hide his finances. Shortly after the judgment against him, Rudy filed for bankruptcy. Again, he dragged his feet, refused to comply with court order about his income and assets. On Friday bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane had finally seen enough. He threw out Rudy’s bankruptcy– finding Rudy is a “recalcitrant debtor”. Now Freeman and Moss are free to go after Rudy’s assets.
Rudy’s other legal troubles are not over. He was disbarred in NY and will lose his bar license in DC. He also faces criminal charges in Georgia and Arizona. What is the lesson from Rudy’s fall from grace as “America’s Mayor”? He had a choice in 2020. He could have lived the life of Riley and basked in the admiration of New Yorkers for his role after 9/11. Instead, Giuliani craved the limelight and decided to join DJT’s MAGA cult of election deniers. That was Rudy’s fatal mistake.
Another lesson from Rudy’s experience is what “MAGA” actually means–“Making Attorneys Get Attorneys”. Almost all of DJT’s lawyers have found themselves in legal trouble–Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis and Ken Cheesebro come to mind. It’s a long list of attorneys who decided to join DJT’s conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.
The final lesson for attorneys, like Giuliani, is that if you go to work for DJT and you get into legal trouble don’t expect your client to step up to the plate and help with your legal bills. DJT will drop you like a hot potato!
