Shut Out in Chi-Town: Jewish Groups Blocked from Marching During the Democratic National Convention

Below is my column in the New York Post on the complaints of Jewish groups that they were denied permits to march in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention while other groups, including pro-Palestinian groups, were allowed to do so. There is a crushing irony in Chicago given the decision in 1978 to allow Nazis to march in nearby Skokie, but Jews could not march in Chicago in 2024.

Here is the column:

This week, citizens will gather in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention to voice their support for Israel and protest the abuses of Hamas.

However, this largely Jewish gathering will not be marching. Instead, they will gather on a small private lot blocks away from the convention as thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters march through the streets.

The reason is that Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson has refused to grant their request for a permit.

While pro-Palestinian protesters have been given an array of accommodations by the city (and received a shoutout from President Joe Biden in his convention address), the Jewish protesters are only able to gather due to the donation of a private lot by an owner for their use.

Even as pro-Palestinian protesters veered off approved routes and tore down security fencing, it will be the Jewish protesters who will reportedly remain confined to this private lot under the watchful eye of the Chicago Police Department.

Besides pro-Palestinian protesters, pro-abortion protesters have been allowed to march, and Planned Parenthood is celebrating the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris with free abortions.

So Jewish protesters get to watch as favored groups parade in abortion pill outfits, but they cannot march with the images of the Hamas hostages in Gaza.

Josh Weiner, co-founder of Chicago Jewish Alliance, confirmed that the group was not granted permits, so all they could do is walk around such approved protests to “make our presence felt.”

He added that “pro-Palestine protesters have gotten multiple permits, including a march, which seems to be a little bit weighted on one side.”

For Chicagoans like myself, the treatment of the pro-Israel protesters at the DNC could not be more ironic or disturbing.

Forty-six years ago, Nazis were allowed to march through Skokie, Illinois, despite the presence of thousands of Holocaust survivors in the largely Jewish city.

The Skokie case is considered one of the milestone moments for free speech, allowing a small group of anti-Semites and racists to march despite the overwhelming opposition in the public. The Nazis were outnumbered 70-1 by counterprotesters and soon receded into obscurity.

Now roughly five decades later, Jewish marchers are being effectively blocked from marching through the city of Chicago, presumably because they would be “too disruptive.”

The city’s passive aggressive approach is fooling no one.

The Johnson administration has been coordinating plans for the convention with the Democratic leadership. The record in this case shows a transparently hostile response to the Jewish protesters.  Despite putting in their request in June, the Jewish protesters were denied while pro-Palestinian protesters were granted permission to march.

The city slow-walked the permit request. When the permit was not granted, it then said that the Jewish groups failed to apply in time when they renewed their requests multiple times. The groups have accused the city of simply not responding to their repeated efforts to address the permits.

Yet Hatem Abudayyeh, executive director of the Arab American Action Network, said that the mayor had personally reached out to reemphasize his support: “The mayor has said from the very beginning that he supports the protest movement. The protest movement is what brought him to City Hall. . . . He said, ‘I understand that struggle. Because I am part of a national liberation struggle as well.’”

It was equally clear that many Democrats did not want Jews to march.

This is unfortunately nothing new for those who support Israel. At Columbia, a professor had his school access card deactivated and was told not to come on campus because his presence might enrage anti-Israel protesters.

In England, a Jewish man was told that he could not walk on a street because “you are quite openly Jewish” and it might trigger pro-Palestinian marchers.

The treatment of the Jewish groups in Chicago outside of the convention stands in sharp contrast to what is being said inside the convention. Speaker after speaker has declared the party to be the champion of the Constitution and free speech.

The one thing that organizers cannot abide in a celebration of constitutional freedom is the actual exercise of those freedoms by unpopular groups.

In only five decades, Jewish groups have become too controversial to march. Instead, the Israeli-American Council has given up waiting for a permit to march and will host a Hostage Square display on private property.

The irony is crushing for many of us who lived through the 1978 controversy. While the Nazis could march in Skokie, these Jews will not be marching in Chicago.

  1. The Chicago Nazis, Hamas-lovers-, Duncceocrats, and other assorted IslamoCommuNazis have been around for a long time:

  2. I cannot comprehend the Jewish support for the Democratic Party. They are telling you TO YOUR FACE that you are non-persons. The Republicans have many faults, but they at least support your very right to exist.

    1. Real Jews don’t vote for or support Dunceocrat IslamoCommuNazis. Only the JINO Dunceocrat IslamoCommuNazis do.

    2. I’ve read where it is more difficult for someone to admit they’ve been had, than to admit they were incorrect. Something to do with pride I imagine.

I for one can’t comprehend the Black voter support for the Democrat party who; supported slavery; started the American Civil War to ensure it’s continuance; formed the KKK after losing the war to ensure the continuance of segregation; resisted changes to any form of Civil Rights law for over a century until Lyndon Johnson was so desperate for votes in the 1964 election run-up that he relented to approval of the Civil Rights Act; ensured the relegation of the Black population to urban reservations lacking jobs skills, education opportunity, with substandard housing and medical care, while providing stipends of government handouts to ensure they had little choice but to stay there.

And all paid for in the good ole Marxist Socialist method of wealth redistribution targeted primarily at the American middle-class so as not to risk any blow back or angst from their elitist donors that fund their empowerment.

  3. It looks like the dims are ignoring the last 3 years as if they didn’t exist. They are going to take control of the border and fight inflation. These people are unbelievable. They knew Bidens condition in 2020. The only reason they pushed out Biden was sinking pole numbers not his physical or mental state. They ‘d have a mummy run if they felt they could get away with it. And the msm keeps covering for them. Independent Bob.

  4. Jonathan: So the Dems in Chicago hate the Jews? Come on Jonathan, you can do better than that. The City denied marching permits to both the Pro-Israel and Pro-Palestinian protesters. But you try to portray the treatment of the former as “Jewish marchers”. The implication of your description is that the City had some anti-semitic motive behind its denial of a marching permit for the pro-Israel group. That’s a complete distortion. The issue of Gaza is not between Jews and non-Jews. It’s between those who support Netanyahu’s genocidal war in Gaza and those who oppose it. You will find Jews and non-Jews in both groups who are protesting at the DNC.

The only anti-semitic portrayal of what is going on in Chicago is DJT’s response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s speech at the DNC. In the middle of the night DJT posted this: “The highly overrated Jewish Governor…, Josh Shapiro, made a really bad and poorly delivered speech…”. Such anti-semitic tropes are frequently employed by DJT. Another reason he should not be re-elected. I say keeping posting, Donald. Keep it up the anti-semitism because you are providing amply reason why the Jewish community will not vote for you in November!

    1. Dennis, this not a very well thought out take. DJT’s partisan attack on Shapiro is giving him the same treatment he gives every democrat. The “issue” of Gaza is between those who support the Jewish state and those who want to destroy it. And yes, there are Jews on both sides of the issue.

      1. jwwhitecalf: Seems your take is not very well thought out. DJT’s attack on Gov. Shapiro is not the “same treatment he gives every Democrat”. He hasn’t attacked Pres. Biden because he is Catholic. No. DJT attacks Shapiro BECAUSE he is Jewish. And that doesn’t make sense. Why attack a popular Gov. of a state you desperately need to win? DJT can’t help himself because he is now openly and blatantly anti-semitic!

        1. Dennis McIntyre can’t help himself. He just loves IslamoCommuNazis. Of course, he’s biased. That’s because he IS an IslamoCommuNazi Dunceocrat. He’s depraved, degenerate, and disgusting. . . and he’s proud of it.

    2. So typical of a modern Progressive. So Orwellian!!! No a single pro Israel permit is granted but multiple Pro Hamas permits are. Of course it is DJT who is the anti-Semite not Walz who appropriated $100,00 to support a Hitler admiring Inman. Radical Black Politicians are now almost uniformly Anti-Semitic in words and actions. But don’t worry Mr. McIntyre more than 60% of American Jews will vote for people like Harris who will undoubtedly indirectly support Iran’s desired elimination of Israel from the face of the earth. Sadly, they are even more demented than you are.

    3. Dennis McIntyre just loves IslamoCommuNazis Dunceocrats. He can’t get enough of them. Of course, he’s biased. He IS an IslamoCommuNazis Dunceocrat.

    4. Oh Denise. How you lie.
The Pro Israel group(s) were outright denied permits.

The City denied certain Pro-Palestinian marches that were too close to the DNC.
They shut down one march that did not have a permit or even attempted to get one.
The march was trying to provoke the police into overreacting.

I can tell you that Mag Mile / Near North where the nice hotels where all the big wigs were staying… all had streets nearby shut down, blocked off and there were fences everywhere. I even walked by one of the Fox news reporters… (didn’t fully recognize him) standing outside one of the hotels in the viagra triangle. (You need to be a local to get that reference. )

So quit lying and give up on that point.

If you’re Jewish and vote for Kamel Toe, you’re an idiot.
And yes Denise, I’m Jewish. I’ve already spoken to my Jewish neighbors and we all agree … the DNC has gone full Marxist.

  5. “Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson has refused to grant their request for a permit.” (JT)

    No surprise there.

He voted to demand that Israel stand down. He remained silent as Chicago public school students chanted antisemitic slogans.

    1. @Sam.
      Yup.
He lost the black vote over immigration.
Now he’s lost the Jewish vote.

Seems he only has the Union(s)

He along w Lightfoot, killed this city.

  6. * How many murders in Chicago this week? I visited Chicago once. I left a week early. It was a horrible place except for a beautiful fine arts museum with Marc Chagall stained glass. I don’t suppose any of its left and a miracle mile with amazing things actually for sale. I hated Chicago otherwise.

States would be wise to wall themselves off from the federal government now. It’s just Jason and the golden fleece.

Thank you professor Turley for the entertainment. I know about Marbury v. Madison and other things I didn’t know through your generosity.

  7. * meanwhile…

The DNC holds some get together like there’s a rules thing in Chicago when no citizen voted for Kamala as the candidate.

Gavin Newsom stands and says—-> all 400+ votes go to Kamala as the candidate? What the hell is he talking about. There’s never been such a shit show in US history.

If something should piss off every American it should be Harris was simply installed as the fffing candidate so the sorry ass dogs in office under Biden’s shit show could just continue. Job security …

Every state should be pissed as hell and candidates who went the mile.

What the fu*g is wrong with you people? 😂 . This is Brazil or Venezuela 3rd world shit show. Congrats Kamala. Congrats author of the shit show.

    1. LIAR MICHELLE OBAMA:
“We don’t cheat others to get ahead. We don’t get to change the rules so we always win”

DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES RESPOND TO MICHELLE OBAMAS BRAZEN LYING:

Stop the gaslighting. Right now. @TheDemocrats are trying to sue us off multiple state ballots, hiring spies and infiltrators to sabotage us, and even withholding public funds we qualified for months ago.
Democrats ABSOLUTELY cheat and change the rules to maintain their grip on power. @DrJillStein

I’m sorry it’s happening to you too, Jill. Amazing how convincing Michelle Obama is when she lies. @NicoleShanahan

  8. Better get used to it, if those dems you usually vote for get in… Night of the long knives, remember yet?????

    1. The Chicago Nazis ultimately did not march in Skokie. Just like in The Blues Brothers, they marched in Marquette Park. (SW side). They wanted to march there all along, but the city started requiring a ton of liability insurance, so they approached various suburbs Skokie turned them down, so they sued with the help of the ACLU.
Chicago relented, so in 78 Frank Collin had rallies in Marquette Park and the Federal Center Plaza downtown.

  9. I thought of the Tea Party protesters and marchers when reading the article. I thought of the thousands of “far right” banned and shadow banned and defunded and demonetized bank accounts shut down t-shirt sales denied and jobs lost by harassment of employers.
I’m not shedding a single tear now.
Glad it finally hit the pro jews hard.
Hope it beats them to a pulp.

Just like the sudden outrage at campuses when it wasn’t hetero white Christian males getting attacked and banned and denounced, it took “the poor poor jews~!” getting attacked before anything happened. Then their money powers went ape crazy. Well, what they let go around came around again. ENJOY IT AND EAT IT UP WITH A BAGEL and some salty cream cheese !

I’m not for any of this on either side, whichever one claims they are a part of, but I can’t help noticing my Founding Fathers are the least of the worries of all the various “community” factions. All of you can GTH ! Yep, sorry, that’s exactly how I see it.
STHU, sit down, do a prayer of thanks for what the USA has given the world, and when the next FF aka white Christian hetero male takes it on the chin for nothing other than being the Founders backbone of the USA, get up, step up, AND STAND UP for that person.
You blew it when you let them attack the WHITE CHRISTIAN HETERO MALE and get away with it. YOU BLEW IT FOR YEARS.
    Yep. GTH !

  10. I agree that an appropriate marching permit should have been granted, but I strongly disagree and find really disappointing all the talk around here (today and previously) about how Democrats hate Jews and how can Jews support Democrats (etc.). Perhaps we should take a cue from Professor Turley who never talks like that on this and other issues.

    1. Do all democrats hate jews ? No. But there is aqn ACTUAL growing strain of anti-semitism within the democratic party.
Some of it is open and obviously repugnant.

But most of it is a permutation of the elitist disdain for jews that we saw decades ago when Jews could not get into elite colleges despite superior resumes.

Here we see chicago blocking Jewish protestors – that is unconstitutional, and they know it. By the time the courts slap the wrists of the chicago government – the convention will be over. And the Mayor’s office will have no problem doing it over again next time it is beneficial.

This is the clear failure of the lefts horrid ideology.

As the Bobbty in Britian said – “you can’t bee here, you are too obviously jewish and that might trigger some Muslim to violence – and that would be YOUR fault”

That is the rotten ideology that allows you to beleive that Trump’s words “protest peacefully” triggered violence on j6, but words like “Put a byullseye on Trump” had nothing to do with his assassination attempt.

With each day we are living 1984 all the more.

We heard Michelle Obama tell us all that it is great that now we can go forward with “Hope”
What like the absolute disaster of the last 4 years was NOT the democrats ? Was not directly caused by the very things that she “Hopes” to do more of in the next 4 years ?

What I “hope” is that people do not forget the last 4 years, and that they do not forget the 8 years that Obama was president.

Today they revised the jobs numbers DOWNWARD by nearly a million jobs – that is nearly 70K/ month.

They did the same about this time last year – put simply they LIED to us.

There is nothing that democrats say that can be trusted.

Kamala in one of her oft repeated words salads rants about how important democracy is because it secures our rights – a statement that is not merely false but the actual opposite. Democracy is a threat to rights. Rights are what the majority can not take from you. Regardless,
What Kamala, the left, democrats mean is it secures the things WE think are important. Rights YOU think are important – those can be trampled.

Jews can be denied the right to protest at the DNC – or even to be out in public in britian if they are too obviously jewish.

It is OK to send SWAT teams after people who have differing policies than you.
It is OK to sic the TSA on your political enemies.

Asking for Congress not to certify an elections is sedition, insurection if you are a republican – but if Jamie Raskin wants to do it – that is the best of democracy.

The consequential threat to democracy is from the left.
The consequential threat to our rights is from the left.
The consequential lies and misinformation is from the left.
The consequential anti-semitism is from the left.

Are all democrats active participlants in all those threats ? No, nor are most.
But most democrats are turning a blind eye to it and enabling it.

First they came for the pro-lifers, and I did not speak out—
      Because I was not pro-life.

Then they came for the catholics, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a catholic.

Then they came for Trump, and I did not speak out—
Because I did not like Trump.

Then they came for the republicans, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a republican.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

  11. More headlines of concern…

“Vance speaks to crowd of tens as trump campaign deflates”

Did you all buy your DJT stock yet?

    1. ATS – why would anyone beleive you about anything ?

      Please provide and actual headline.

The ACTUAL news of the day – there have been rumours for over 6 months that RFK Jr. has offered to drop out and endorse one of his competitors in return for a cabinet appointment First it was Trump, then it was Harris – now RFK jr. s VP confirmed that they are exploring shutting down their campaign and endorsing Trump.

Both Kennedy and Shanneen are democrats. But they are extremely frustrated at the lawfare conducted by the democratic party to keep them off the ballots. The courts in NY have ruled that Kennedy – who has owned a home in Manhattan since the 70’s, who has identified it as his primary residence his entire life, who has voted in Manhattan his entire life, who has a NY drivers license, pays taxes in NY, Has his law licesnse in NY, has his law practice in NY is somehow not a NY resident. Now I am not quite sure why that matters – as pretty sure Kamala Harris is not a NY resident either. Regardless, absent a reversal by the appelate courts – which is guaranteed – AFTER THE ELECTION, Democrats have lawfared Kennedy off the ballot in NY and for reasons I do not understand completely – if he can not get on the ballot in NY where he resides because allegedly he is not a NY resident then magically her can not get on the ballot in many other states.

Democrats rant about voter suppression – yet they are denying voters the right to vote for a candidate they may prefer.
And this despite the claim that RFK jr is hurting Trump more than Harris.

Regardless, RFK and Shanneen are REALLY pissed at democrats – as are many of their supporters.

RFK Jr. says he will be making a major campaign announcement in Pheonix on Friday – Guess who has a huge Rally in Pheonix on Friday ?

I am not sure that it matters much whether RFK Jr. endorses Trump.

But RFK Jr was at 9pts when Biden dropped out – he is now at 4 or 5. Nearly all those losses went to Harris.
It is likely that the majority of RFK Jr. voters who are left will vote for Trump if they can not vote for RFK jr.

Further – as this is happening specifically because Democrats – not Republicans have fought tooth and nail to keep RFK jr off the ballot.

Succeeding and forcing RFK Jr. out of the race is going to leave alot of RFK Jr voters really pissed at Democrats.

Great way to end your convention – with a former democrat running as an independent with 5% of the vote dropping out of the race because YOU have waged lawfare against him and endorsing your opponent.

An d they we find out today that AFTER the abysmal jobs report this month – the BLS is downward revising the past 12 months of jobs data by almost 1M jobs.

Unemployment may actually be higher than it was in Jan 2021.

And to ice the cake we are told that the national debt is off – by 1.6T dollars.
That is an error of $5000 for each person in the US.

Who here has borrowed $5000 and completely lost it ?

Michelle Obama was onstage saying that since Biden withdrew she sees the country filled with hope again.

Hope for WHAT ? Was she afraid that Biden would win ? or that he would lose ?

the overwhelming majority of americans want the bad dream of the last 4 years to go away.
Replacing Biden with a new shiny version of the same thing – or worse is not hope.

If Michelle wants to be filled with hope, it should be hope that we do not continue to make a mess of our country and the world.
Harris does not represent that Hope.

      1. John Say, the reason Kennedy’s residence matters is because that’s the address he put on his filings in every state that requires it. The argument is that if it’s not his actual residence then the filing is deficient and he must be excluded from the ballot. This case is being brought in several states, not just NY. I gather there are states that don’t require a candidate’s home address on the filing, so he’d have no problem there.

  12. You have to remember that liberal icon, FDR turned away a ship of 900 Jewish refugees from entering the USA in 1939. Not much has changed in the Democratic Party since then.

    1. There was no reason why he should have allowed the St Louis to dock and its passengers to disembark. They were trying to blackmail the USA into granting them visas; FDR was 100% right to resist such underhand tactics, and would that later administrations had the same courage.

The St Louis and its passengers were simply not the USA’s problem. Sailing into Miami Harbor didn’t make them the USA’s problem. If the nations of Europe didn’t want them sent back to Germany, then it was up to them to take them in, which eventually happened. Not one passenger was returned to Germany.

Would he have done the same if the passengers had not been Jews? It’s impossible to prove either way, but I think it most likely that he would.

  13. OT

The elections are not “fixed,” right?

The elections are not “fixed” by LBJ’s Unconstitutional Welfare State and Harris/Biden’s Anti-American Open Borders 17-Million-Mexican Invasion.

  14. So how to read the Tea leaves of the denial of rights to Jews. Does the Mayor have prejudice against Jews or do we take his word that they were concerned about losing control. If the case be that they had concerns, then all protests should have been denied access as they did to the Jews. If prejudice, then how far does that go, does it leak into Whites, Hispanic, Polish, Italians, Hindu, Buddhism, Taoists, or is it exclusive to only Jews? Next question, if the Mayor is a racist can we assume that those who elected him are also racists. As this paragraph demonstrates the often-used term can be turned on a dime.

Leftists of America live under a bush of thorns that has grown to be major threat to the future of our Great Republic.

Middle East War; are we to believe anything other than the ideology of religion and the total destruction of one or both sides at conflict. But that is subjective in the Middle East War, this war is being fought for territorial control. I doubt any of the Muslim countries would give a hoot where a State of Israel was located as long as it wasn’t where it is now.

This Arena has been in conflict since +/-2000 BCE when Palestine became a trading zone, was acquired by Egypt 1500 BCE, became the Kingdom of Israel 1080 BCE, Israel was conquered by Palestine 700 BCE and was subjugated, moving forward there were the Babylonians, Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, and Rome transferences until 640CE when it was conquered by Palestine’s Muslim armies, and become a Theocracy. That’s reality.

When you use BCE and CE instead of BC and AD you are repeating left wing, modernist revisionism just like Hamas does with Israel. Anyone who gets triggered can jump in a lake in anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi

      1. Estovir — On the contrary, BCE and CE are now standard in Archaeology and associated scientific literature.

          1. No, not following those efforts. They were standard long before then, because there is nothing scientific about insisting on making a religious proclamation every time you give a date. And there’s nothing scientific about excluding non-Christians from saying anything about history.

No, it wasn’t. There was no such thing as Palestine at any time BCE. There has never been a place called “Palestine”, except for about 250 years when the Romans had a province called Syria Palaestina, and the 30 years or so of the British Mandate.

  15. They’re back and Professor Turley has a primo seat to report on it.

George Washington U suspends Jewish Voice for Peace chapter as colleges prepare for resurgence of Israel protests

George Washington University has suspended its chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace just days before the start of the new semester. The private university in Washington, D.C. also suspended Students for Justice in Palestine and put six other pro-Palestinian student groups on probation, in a preemptive move that signals the school expects campus protests against the Israel-Hamas war to resume as students return to campus in the coming days.

“GW administration may suspend our organizations and strip us of our funding, but they will never quell the student movement,” the student groups wrote on Instagram. They vowed to “return a hundred times stronger in the face of their repression.”

NB: if only these kids knew what repression were really like. They were raised on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter; their ideas and intellectual depth are tweet length

    1. @Estovir

Exactly. For the past 30 years, kids have been raised in the most prosperous and peaceful times the West has ever known. Their grievances can largely be attributed to privilege, insularity, and be dismissed. They are ridiculous and impossible to take seriously. Those that seem to are opportunists of the most personally usurious kind. Modern activists feel they missed out on something, and because they have the self esteem of a flea, due to their parents’ sheltering of them, recreate problems that were long ago resolved. They are not well, and they drag all of us backward.

      1. We have to lead, James given their parents failed them and us as a society. Evolution has a way of weeding out the unfit. Wait a few generations and their kind will have learned. Point of fact: many of these university kids disavow their peers because of what you wrote They are not well, and they drag all of us backward

      2. And they have also been raised, more likely than not, without both parents, as the sexual abuse rates keep climbing upward. Give them money and toys, and destroy their selves. Minor grievances. The sort that have destroyed civilizations before.

        1. how can that be? the thought leaders have been telling us that two-parent families are more important than the parents’ independence from one another for decades, that it doesn’t take a village, but hard work and dedication, and that sexual promiscuity and unwanted child murders or births are women’s health issues – how can that all lead to what you say?

    2. Estovir, I grew up in West Palm Beach in the 1960s. Some of the students at my high school lived in Palm Beach and occasionally would have parties. A close friend of mine who was Jewish never went to them but being a dense teenager, I never asked why. Only many years later when we met again and talked did I learn that he, as a Jew, was not allowed in Palm Beach back then. Neither were blacks (after sundown). Among those on this blog who suffer from TDS, skip the next sentence because it will hurt your head. You see, when President Trump bought Mar a Lago and turned half of it into a country club, he bucked the “Gentlemen’s Agreement” and proudly announced that all were welcome if they could afford it. Palm Beach was not happy. Today, I am told the most exclusive club in Palm Beach is Jewish.

    3. There are multiple different issues.

The first is some of these groups hold absolutely despicable and heinous views.

They have a right to hold those views to speak those views, to lie to people, and to protest.

And the rest of us can pull our hair out wandering how the h311 anyone can beleive such nonsense.

Your excercise of your first amendment rights does not protect you from the stupidity of your choices.

The separate issue is going beyond free speech into actual violence.

Those students that engaged in violence – should be punished appropriately.
