California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is widely known to be angling to be the next Democratic presidential nominee after the implosion of Vice President Kamala Harris. This week, Newsom positioned not just his campaign but also his state as part of the “resistance” for the next four years against the Trump Administration. Newsom pushed a special session to secure a $25 million war chest to take the Trump Administration to court, even before the inauguration and release of policies by the incoming administration.
I wrote earlier about how the loss of both houses, as well as the White House, will mean that lawfare and obstructive efforts will shift to the states. Newsom is moving to out-position governors (and potential primary opponents) like Govs. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker moved first in a chest-pounding press conference that he would stop the incoming administration from trying to remove undocumented persons, declaring, “You come for my people, you come through me.”
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) added that he will “fight to the death” against Trump’s agenda.
Newsom has upped the ante by demanding millions to pre-fund litigation against the new administration. With a massive budget debt burden, Newsom has continued to pile on new debt for politically popular initiatives.
I cannot recall any state pre-positioning funds for the sole purpose of litigating against any incoming administration. The most obvious area of disagreement is the effort to ramp up the enforcement of immigration laws and to carry out deportations. While polls show that the public overwhelmingly supports such enforcement, including deportations, California is seeking to take the lead in court actions designed to slow or frustrate such efforts.
It could prove costly, not just in litigation expenditures. The Trump Administration could seek to withhold federal funding from states and cities obstructing enforcement efforts. In the meantime, sanctuary cities are continuing to face rising costs associated with rising populations of undocumented migrants.
For example, as we previously discussed, Denver Mayor Mike Johnson (D) declared that he was preparing the Mile-High City for its “Tiananmen Square moment” to fight the federal government in any attempt to deport unlawful migrants. Johnson warned that he would have not only Denver police “stationed at the county line to keep [ICE] out” but also “50,000 Denverites.” He later walked back the comments while repeating that the city is positioning itself to be part of the resistance.
Now the Common Sense Institute (CSI), a non-partisan research organization estimated that eight percent of the city’s 2025 budget of $4.4 billion is now dedicated to housing and services for undocumented persons. If true, that amounts to $356 million or $7,900 per migrant.
California has led other states in offering a wide array of benefits to undocumented persons.
Notably, Californian voters surprised many Democrats this election with almost 40% voting for President-elect Trump over California’s own Vice President Kamala Harris.
There is an obvious political advantage to Newsom in securing these public funds to assume the mantle as the leader of “the resistance” as a foundation for his 2028 campaign. The question is how such an obstructive position will prove to the advantage of Californians. As citizens sought to increase criminal penalties by passing Proposition 36 by over 70 percent (over the opposition of Newsom), the governor is focusing on setting aside millions to fund a high-profile legal campaign against Trump’s administration.
Ultimately, the litigation campaign is unlikely to change federal enforcement efforts significantly. However, Newsom hopes it will significantly change his electoral enhancement efforts.
Sounds like another justification for a tax increase in California. Keep those U-Hauls on the one way trip east.
Newsom is a scumbag. A taxpayers rights group should sue him and Trump should personally read the Supremacy Clause to Newsom. At some point, these arrogant governors become Confederates like Jefferson Davis and should be arrested to send a message
Newsom’s potential war chest is not “publicly” funded, it’s “taxpayer” funded. If Newsom relied on public donations for this war chest he wouldn’t be able to buy a coffee at Starbucks!
Do you think Newsom realizes that he has become a [GASP] “states’ rights” advocate?
Next thing you know he will want to legalize the buying and selling of white, heterosexual, males with a discernible testosterone level.
Donald J. Trump POTUUS Executive Order No.1
On this date, January 20, 2025, using the powers invested in me, I hereby order the transfer of these numbers of illegal aliens, to the following cities, all of which have declared themselves to be “sanctuary cities.” The cost of upkeep to be borne by the subject city, until such time as they are deported to their country of origin:
500,000 to Denver, Colorado
100,000 to San Francisco, California
250,000 to Los Angeles, California
25,000 to Malibu Caifornia
500,000 to Chicago, Illinois
25,000 to Cape Cod, Massachusetts
250,000 to Atlantic City, New Jersey
so forth and so on.
You can cross Atlantic City right off that list, thank you very much. First, in August, 2023, Phil Murphy, as stupid as he is, at least had the brains to walk back previous statements about Atlantic City in that role:
“I don’t see any scenario where we’re going to be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or frankly elsewhere in the state,” Murphy said on News 12 New Jersey’s “Ask Governor Murphy.”
New Jersey governor says state can’t handle NYC migrants
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/08/31/murphy-new-jersey-influx-migrants-00113692
Also, USCIS Guide, which appears to be an information and advocacy site for immigrants, and which does classify a few NJ cities as “sanctuary cities”, doe not have NJ on that list:
Sanctuary Cities in New Jersey
https://www.uscisguide.com/state-regulations-and-laws/sanctuary-cities-in-new-jersey/
“The following cities in the state of New Jersey are designated as Sanctuary Cities: Newark, Jersey City, Princeton, Montclair, East Orange, Asbury Park, Trenton, Camden and Plainfield.”
I’d just as soon keep all illegals out of NJ, but at the very least they can be restricted to being a headache in the bluer parts of the state. Atlantic City is too near, and I just spent money increasing my supply of ammo before the election, I don’t want to need to do that again soon.
I am sorry. I thought the Haitians might enjoy the beaches and stuff. :}
” I thought the Haitians might enjoy the beaches and stuff. :}”
We do have a problem with sea gulls (actually, common terns) scavenging scraps on the boardwalks and beaches in this area, but I would prefer that issue be dealt with in a different manner…
For the record, cape cod is not a city. So executive order No. 1 is ineffective.
Then divide it up from Sandwich to Provincetown
What caused the defeat in 2024 of The Party of Monarchical Depots and the Aristocratic Class: (The Democrats)? Can the defeat be placed on Inflation, Immigration, Woke and all its non-sense, weak candidate or the realization that they the Democrats were and are still not interested in the general welfare or a stable future for this great nation: The United States of America.

Absolutely – the leading lights of the democratic party should double down on insane policies that cost them the presidency, and control of congress.
Please keep it up – just give the GOP control of CA, NJ, IL and CO.
Why in the world would any democrat with national aspirations advocate for policies that cost his own state a fortune and that are incredibly unpopular even with democrats ?
John Say,
Well said and I agree. Please all you Democrat elitists, celebrities, over-educated MSM pundits, keep telling Americans how they are un-educated, misogynists, racists, sexists, ignorant, for not voting for bad Democrat policies, for not voting for woke ideologies and for voting for your own self interest and your own common sense. That is a good way to win the hearts and minds!
Thanks.
I have reminded many on the right elsewhere in this section that immigration can be a double edged sword.
It is probably the single most important issue in the transformation of the republican party and Trump MUST deliver on that issue.
It CAN remain a potent issue for Republicans for a long time – if they are wise.
But popular views of illegal immigration are fickle. And historically – if not in the past decade, the left has been far better at messaging than the right.
the left wing media that is in a freefall would love to have lots of horrible video and stories of family separation or immigrants in concentration camps or deportations that look cruel.
As with many issues – Americans are strongly opposed to illegal immigration on principle, but often favorable towards their illegal immigrant gardener, or nanny or those they know.
Republicans must STICK to the winning side of the messaging. Do not make mistakes – legal or political.
That MAY mean abandning winning legal battles for winning PR battles.
Do Not force a confrontation in the courts with Newsome – let him deal with being perceived as responsible for the next Laken Riley.
Why in the world would any democrat with national aspirations advocate for policies that cost his own state a fortune and that are incredibly unpopular even with democrats ?
John, just spit-balling here, but the likely answer is baked into their progressive ideology. They view the American people as the unenlightened beneficiaries of a better form of governance that has been hampered by our constitutional order. Their failures are due to nothing more than a body politic that is stubbornly clinging to antiquated theories such as natural rights, limited government and individualism. They just need to try harder.
I think a major part of the modern failure of the democratic party is the shift from Liberal to progressive that was driven by the ideological takeover of schools.
While Liberalism – as in that of the democratic party in the 20th century – CAN lead to the same problems as progressivism.
Positive rights are a fundamentally disastrous concept.
It is not until the emergence of a strong modern progressive rather than liberal left that things got bat$hit crazy.
In the 60’s the left marched FOR Free speech. Now they are marching against it.
A fortune? $25 million in California is the equivalent of a lovely vacation home in Malibu. Are you aware that California’s GDP is twice the size of Texas? Their annual budget is $297 billion. $25 million is mere chump change.
As I wrote above – if those of you on the left really wish to hang your hat on this – go for it.
Do everything in your power to turn CA red again.
To most california families, or even communities – 25M is not chump change.
$25 million is about 60 cents per person living in California.
Absolutely chump change.
If California was a country it would be the 5th largest GDP in the world.
“If California was a country it would be the 5th largest GDP in the world.”
And how long do you think that will last with its persistent policies that are driving more and more businesses out of the state? Wells Fargo is only the most recent, and surely not the last, by a long shot”
Wells Fargo Selling Its San Francisco Headquarters Building
https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/wells-fargo-selling-its-san-francisco-headquarters-building
“Downtown San Francisco – already ground zero of the commercial realestate implosion – is about to get one more empty skyscraper… The good news is that when a buyer does not emerge, then San Francisco will finally have a place to house at least a small portion of its tens of thousands of homeless crackheads roaming the streets like some undead, zombie army.”
Yet Newsom took a $100 billion dollar surplus and turned into a $68 billion dollar defecit.
CA GDP is slanted accounting trick as they include all federal monies in their GDP. Strip that out and CA looks a lot more like a poorly ran third world country.
Costing the California taxpayers a fortune is a “feature” there – not a bug. Newsom doesn’t care because it’s not his money nor will it affect his salary or benefits. Sadly, that’s just Politics 101.
The singular American failure is the judicial branch, with emphasis on the Supreme Court.
Innumerable rights and freedoms of Americans are unconstitutionally denied by Newsom’s edict below.
Americans most certainly enjoy the constitutional right to operate a free enterprise in the free markets of the private sector and the right to purchase products of their own discretion and decision.
Free market demand is vastly superior to dictatorial edict as a lever of industry.
Justices of the Supreme Court and judges of the judicial branch have sworn an oath to support the Constitution.
Rather, they have supported the Communist Manifesto and its “dictatorship of the proletariat,” central planning, control of the means of production (i.e. unconstitutional regulation), redistribution of wealth, and social engineering.
Where is the judicial branch in defending the constitutional rights and freedoms of Americans from the likes of Gavin Newsom?

“SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that he will aggressively move the state further away from its reliance on climate change-causing fossil fuels while retaining and creating jobs and spurring economic growth – he issued an executive order requiring sales of all new passenger vehicles to be zero-emission by 2035 and additional measures to eliminate harmful emissions from the transportation sector.”

Gov. Nuisance will try to get his bum in the Oval Office, buy it is more likely to take residence at one of the MSNBC studios.
Edwardmahl,
IF MSNBC is still around. Their parent company is looking to sell them and a few other failing leftist MSM companies. Their ratings have fallen some 40-50% since the election. Elon Musk has joked about buying them and putting on free speech advocates. Joe Rogan joked he would take Rachel Maddow’s time slot, wear the dress and glasses and tell the same lies!
Good grief. Really. I think the dems will only realize the futility of their idiocy after they get even more slaughtered in the midterms, and then again, even worse, in 2028. We are freely talking about the (well earned) death of the MSM these days; it seems to elude the modern left that they are the ones that got the ball rolling in the first place. I am never, ever, voting dem again. I don’t care what they do to their party. I want nothing to do with what constitutes ‘leftism’ in my life or the lives of those I love at any point while we are all still registering a heartbeat.
Newsom is a narcissist, he is a wealthy oligarch; his state, which is large enough to be a small country, might very well collapse, and given how November went, he ain’t getting any help to dig his pathetic ass out of the hole he is in from the fed. Suggesting him as a nominee for 2028 is the inverse equal of suggesting AOC (??? Really? That one is a serious mind screw). Also, equally funny how they threw identity bull**** out the window after Kamala got her behind handed to her because she is low IQ and likely a drunk, let’s nominate the rich, white dude! As they did with Biden. The modern left is literally impossible to take seriously. And they are really, really counting on you and I being stupid.
Pfft. Give us a break. No effing way. The dems do not seem to understand that what we are done with (quite clearly – look at the voting map again – that will likely be double in 2026 due to their seemingly pathological mind blindness and lack of anything resembling remorse) is their arrogance, lawlessness, entitlement, and malevolence. 🙄🙄
The rest of the world is about to follow.
I told all you partisan leftist hacks that you would be sorry that you attached yourselves to Joe Biden but you were all too busy saying he is a great president, a “consequential” president and a great man.
We are all laughing at you now as even Chuck Todd just said that Biden is a selfish man and that he shouldn’t have even run in 2020.
Anything Joe Biden touches turns to crap and all you fools hitched your moronic wagons to this corrupt, nasty, (now) senile incompetent and arrogant loser. Eat it all partisan hacks, eat the corruption that is now finally common knowledge (even though it was known by the majority of the folks on this site), eat the failed economy, eat the failed border, eat the fantastic campaign of Kamala Harris and eat having lost the senate and failed to retake the House.
Hitching your wagon to JOE BIDEN is a very telling sign of your lack of intelligence.
HullBobby,
Yes. That sums it up quite well. Let us not forget the fact MSM has been lying to so for so many years about the Russia collusion hoax, Biden is “sharp as a tack!” And now the Biden lie about not pardoning his own son and respecting the rule of law! HA!
@hullbobby
Indeed, even our host, initially, thought Biden’s inauguration speech was the most moving and sincere thing ever, and he said so on this blog, in spite of our protestations. There has not been a dang redeeming thing about the modern left in so long it’s a wonder; that it has taken the ‘educated’ class to realize it is telling, they are not serious people. Privileged and insular, not ‘educated’. The modern left are effing morons, by every metric. I can memorize information spewed in a classroom and read books too; at some point, and generationally, it goes for our host, too – wake up your brain and think for yourself.
If you can. This seems to be like Sisyphus pushing his boulder for generational dems, in spite of the reality of 2024, and their kids – ha, ha, ha! 😂😂😂 Lost cause. Hopeless cause. Enjoy supporting them until you die, because you will. The rest of us will move on and actually create something.
* The masses are fickle with short attention spans. Harris Biden won’t be remembered I a week. Every 16 years there’s a new uneducated population to lead. Harris who?
It’s finished. Grow a garden and get a donkey.
You mis-spelled Mr. Todd’s first name. It’s actually, S-C-H-M-U-C-K.
* This is the reason the left actually won. It’s chaos and basic lawlessness.
It’s all terrorism on the left and right. Glenn Beck is the right of Joy Reids left. It’s pervasive terrorism. Newsom just found another niche to steal money.

Until someone personally feels the pain and suffering of their stupidity will they cease their stupidity. It seems the democrats are walking around dazed in a stupor trying to reason why they lost an election so badly. Spending millions on a poor candidate with equally poor party policies. They refuse to grasp the need to excise from the party those who have rotted it. If these fringe politicians continue with their agenda the nearest a democrat will reach the WH will be via a DC tour.
It’s like eight years ago when Hillary wrote a book called “What Happened” and Mark Steyn said that’s like OJ looking for the real killer.
Creekan: except that, Hillary beat Trump in the popular vote and he only “won” the EC vote because of Russian hackers that helped him cheat.
your theory about “russian hackers helping [Trump] cheat” has been debunked so many times that you can’t even hold your own as a comedian anymore. Wasn’t it Hillary campaign and Marc Elias who were singled out for their Russian collusion dossier?
Tom: NO it hasn’t–no matter how many times MAGA media lies to you about this, there is the REPUBLICAN Senate Intelligence Committee Report that reached the same conclusion as the Mueller investigation. I’ve cited it over and over again. Look it up.
—YOU “look it up,”* –clown.
*a copy-catted phrase I originally directed at you on many occasions over the last two years.
Complete lie on your part, clown. The Sen Intel Committee report DID reach the same conclusion
–THAT THERE WAS NO CRIMINAL COLLUSION BETWEEN TRUMP/CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA to “help him cheat” or get him elected.
What WAS cited was Hillary campaign’s and Elias’ involvement in the Russian dossier story, and Paul Manafort’s communications and forwarding of polling results.
You a such an unforgivable clown and mean-spirited joke.
Hillary lost the popular vote
Most Americans did not vote for her.
Margot: the only “dazed” people are delusional MAGAs like you. Democrats didn’t “lose badly”–Trump never even got half of the popular vote, and in several swing states that he barely won by the thinnest of margins, Republican Senate candidates lost. He only got 6 more EC votes than in 2016, in another campaign rife with lies. His “victory” ranks 44th out of 51–not the “mandate” MAGA media lies about. The MAGA and Republican lie machine worked–so they put over a convicted felon, thief, liar, racist and misogynist who managed to convince substantial numbers of people that the 6-times bankrupt fraudster could make their personal wealth “soar”, and bring housing and grocery prices down “precipitiously”. When that doesn’t happen, and when prices “soar” because of Trump tariffs, when the national debt goes into overdrive, and when grocery and housing costs don’t pan out–look out–the midterms are coming. That is, if we’re still all here and don’t end up with another 911 if looney tunes Kash Patel gets hold of the FBI and fires all of the FBI counterintelligence unit that is keeping us safe.
Trump still won. More Americans voted for Trump than they did for Harris. MAGAs are not dazed at all. Just look at this picture of Ivanka, https://www.offthepress.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Screenshot-2024-12-03-at-10.02.55%E2%80%AFAM.webp . That says it all of how everyone who voted for Trump feels right now!
The AP is reporting Mexico has stopped two migrant caravans for reaching the US border.

Looks like Trump’s tariff policies are already working!!! We call that MAGA winning!!!!
More good news!!!! According to Nielsen data, several MSNBC shows have lost over 50% of the 25-54 aged viewers!!! It is so bad, MSNBC parent company is looking to sell of the dead weight. Rachel Maddow had to take a 5million pay cut to remain on the air to continue to gaslight Americans! At lest those dupes who actually tune into her so-called “show.” HAHHAAHHAAHAHA!
If we have another 911, it is because the terrorists are already here. Let in by the failed Biden/Harris border policies. The FBI has already over the past few years, since Biden was elected, of encounters and arrests of illegals with ties to known terrorists groups, like ISIS.
Trump won over Kamala Harris by 2,297,091 votes, and he won the EC by 86 votes. I don’t know if you’ve looked at the election county map, the entire country is a swath of red.
Republicans won the White House, the Senate, and the House.
As for the tariffs, it’s a negotiation strategy. He already used tariffs in his negotiations with Canada in his first term. Canada then lowered their tariffs, which allowed American dairy farmers to enter the Canadian market.
All countries have tariffs, and threat of tariffs is common in trade negotiations.
Trump has created a very wide tent, and has nominated the very people victimized by the system to overhaul that system. They are guaranteed not to defend the status quo. With a national debt of hopeless trillions, and major benefits programs, like Social Security, running out of money, Trump has appointed Elon and Vivek to DOGE to go line item by line item to trim the fat. This will free up money for where it’s needed, instead of getting quail high on cocaine.
Jonathan Truly has posted articles about the Russia Hoax. If you don’t understand that the Russia allegations were hoaxes, then please go read Turley’s posts.
You’re in the denial phase. I hope you don’t stay in the denial phase for 4 years like you did during Trump’s first term.

Lincoln was a great President.
Proclamation 80—Calling Forth the Militia and Convening an Extra Session of Congress
“On April 15, 1861,…President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation calling forth the state militias, to the sum of 75,000 troops, in order to suppress the rebellion. He appealed ‘to all loyal citizens to favor, facilitate, and aid this effort to maintain the honor, the integrity, and the existence of our National Union.’”
Proclamation 92—Warning to Rebel Sympathizers
“[On] July 17, 1862,…I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby proclaim to and warn all persons within the contemplation of said sixth section to cease participating in, aiding, countenancing, or abetting the existing rebellion or any rebellion against the Government of the United States and to return to their proper allegiance to the United States on pain of the forfeitures and seizures as within and by said sixth section provided.”
_______________________________________________________________________________
Now President Donald J. Trump MUST pull a full “Lincoln” and close the border, impose martial law, prosecute a war against the communist rebellion without a formal declaration, shred the Communist Manifesto and irrevocably extirpate all principles of communism in America, implement the “manifest tenor” of the Constitution and Bill of Rights including absolute freedom, absolute free enterprise, absolute free markets, and absolute private property including a fully constitutional dearth of taxation and regulation, eliminate the Departments of Labor, Education, Agriculture, Energy, HUD, and EPA, issue the “Deportation Proclamation” deporting all illegal aliens, past and present, including those who illegally pursued citizenship as criminal border crossers and “asylum” seekers who all made false and fraudulent claims of phantom, nonexistent persecution as foreign citizens with no U.S. rights, establish coherent voter qualifications by State legislatures per the Constitution, declare English the sole official language of the United States, suspend habeas corpus, smash opposition printing presses, networks, podcasts, social media platforms, etc., and throw anyone and everyone who opposes him in prison to Save the Union until America is placed squarely back on the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Resistance to what? Being able to afford groceries and gas?
The California Air Quality Resources Board (CARB), an unelected board, recently changed its Low Carbon Fuel Standard Program, which will increase the price of gas up to $0.65 per gallon. The goal is to meet Climate Change mitigation goals. As if the state of California can change the climate of the planet. CARB also passed its Advanced Clean Trucks regulation, which will effectively prohibit the sales of RVs in the entire state of CA, because there is no technology for RVS to meet the requirements. ACT mandates that manufacturers of medium to heavy duty vehicles sell an increasing percentage of Electric Vehicles in California. An EV motorhome does not exist, nor is the technology conducive to long drives. Electric Vehicles are notorious for requiring hours of charging every few hours of driving. Journalists who tried to take EVs cross country, fully intending to write a positive review of the experience, have had to have them towed home and rent a gas powered car. No one would buy an EV RV.
EVs are also dangerous in high-fire risk California. Getting stranded by an EV during evacuation from a wildfire means death. Power companies across the state cut power during periods of high wind, citing a high fire risk. People would not be able to charge their vehicles, and would be trapped at home.
Further, electricity prices have absolutely skyrocketed. People cannot afford their electricity bill. It’s more expensive to charge an EV than it is to fuel with gas, which has also increased in price.
Elites like Newsom would simply keep raising gas prices until it’s more expensive than charging an electric vehicle, with the result that people couldn’t afford to travel to work.
Newsom is plowing our state into the ground. He supports soft on crime measures, his policies have led to an astounding number of homeless staggering in the streets like the Walking Dead, and added to which are those priced out of apartments.
He has shepherded California into such a dystopia that enough people have fled the state to make the net population drop, year after year. Worse, it’s taxpayers who leave, and those who don’t pay taxes who arrive.
Newsom also has declared California a sanctuary state. Since Trump’s Administration will prioritize deporting violent criminal illegal aliens first, guess where they will flee to? Right here. In California.
What Gavin Newsom has going for him is good looks, and an elite Democrat pedigree that comes with connections. If you judged him by his actions for the state, however, he’d be an ugly package indeed.
I’ll have to take your word for it about Newsom’s “good looks”. His smirk always looks to me like he just screwed somebody’s wife.
Karen S,
I have read several trucking trade groups reports about how much of a bad idea EV heavy trucks are and the challenges they face. The trucks cost nearly twice as much as a diesel. Weight more. Cannot haul as much as far. Require long charging times and the infrastructure even in CA is NOT there to support EV trucks at scale. Some are talking they will abandon the CA market, haul cargo to the CA state line and dump the trailer there for a contractor with EV truck to come and pick it up and haul the cargo to its final destination in CA. Regardless, the cost will likely be passed off to the end CA consumer. Everything will get more expensive in CA more so than it already is.
Karen, even without strong national GOP party support for our state, the electorate has been moving towards the Republican party. That doesn’t happen without policies completely out-of-touch with the sentiments of the population. The state receives approximately $150 billion from the federal government and projects like the High Speed Rail won’t likely get survive analysis by DOGE due to waste, fraud and abuse. Newsom’s “resistance” to immigration policies that would be a net positive for the safety and security of the citizens of this state will be well documented as illegal immigrants continue to wreck havoc on our population.
Karen S: I’ve suggested this before–you’d be a lot happier in Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas or Louisiana where there are more people just like you. California is not the place for you. You have such bitter hatred of all things Democratic, your mental health would do better someplace else. If Governor Newsome doesn’t do something to prevent migrant agricultural workers from being deported, the California agricultural economy would die, and because Trump hates California, he would try to send goons there to cripple the agricultural industry purely for spite and to prove what a big man he is. California NEEDS people to plant, pick and pack perishable fruits and vegetables–it always has, going back decades, and it relies on migrants to do this work. The agricultural industry WANTS him to protect their workers and the livelihoods of those who depend on agriculture, so they are gearing up to fight Trump, which is the right thing to do. And, violent criminal aliens are already deported.
CA is not for a lot of people, like productive, high paying salaries, and tax payers, California says it lost $2 billion in state income taxes from earners leaving
“Recently released figures from the IRS show that California continues to lose taxpayers to other states at a heightened rate that began during the pandemic,” wrote the LAO. “Foregone income tax collections due to outmigration reflected 1.6% of income tax revenue in 2022-23, up from about 0.5% in the years prior to the pandemic. Should this elevated trend continue, outmigration could drag annual income tax growth below its long-term average.”
https://justthenews.com/nation/states/center-square/california-says-it-lost-2-billion-state-income-taxes-earners-leaving
“EVs are also dangerous in high-fire risk California. Getting stranded by an EV during evacuation from a wildfire means death.”
NTM that in arid conditions with plenty of tinder, EVs represent a risk – a small, but tangible risk – of starting a wildfire due to LiPo battery malfunction.
Before its countered that IC vehicle exhaust also presents a risk in those situations, which is true, any consequential fire from that source would be small and controllable, at least initially. Fires from vehicle LiPo batteries are never small or easily controlled, to say the least.
#6 — I once watched an ICE vehicle completely burn up.
#6 — ICE vehicle fires vastly outnumber EV fires and are *much* more likely per vehicle.
The context was vehicles starting brush fires in drought conditions, and the main reason that internal combustion powered vehicles are at risk for that at all is because of the stupid Fedgov required catalytic converters.
Karen S — I recommend reading
https://cleantechnica.com/
about several actual road trips around the US in EVs.
Hey, what’s a boy to do. Obviously whatever it takes to stay in the mansions. Gov. Newsom buys $9.1M Marin County mansion, keeps $3.7M Sacramento home. Trump says that Putin is a smart guy and if asked he would probably say that Newsom is a smart guy. Putin and Newsom have one thing in common for sure. They both know how to keep those barrels of cash rollin in the door. Consider the pattern. The Harris campaign gave cash to Al Sharpton for his endorsement. It’s the old I’ll scratch your nether parts if you’ll scratch my nether parts. If you want to see how it works you can go to the San Diego zoo and watch the monkeys moan in pleasure.
Let’s step back for a minute.
Remember when several courts (including Colorado’s Supreme Court) determined that Jan 6 was an “insurrection” and that Trump incited it? I seem to recall that SCOTUS skirted this issue and simply reversed Colorado’s removal of Trump from the ballot.
It would be an interesting discussion and debate for SCOTUS/courts to parse out the difference between Trump’s role in encouraging “insurrection” and state Governors’ encouraging the refusal to allow the federal government to carry out its EXCLUSIVE power of immigration regulation/administration.
(e.g., “Denver Mayor Mike Johnson (D)…to fight the federal government in any attempt to deport unlawful migrants. Johnson warned that he would have not only Denver police ‘stationed at the county line to keep [ICE] out’ but also ‘50,000 Denverites.'” )
^^^from yours truly, lin. Accidentally hit send.) I was going to add that maybe this is why Johnson “walked back” his earlier threat.
US courts have consistently asserted the superiority of US law over state, including lawful executive orders, especially in matters of immigration. Nullification went out of fashion
years ago. As long as courts find removals legal, Noisome’s suits will eventually accomplish nothing except delay in doing the inevitable and publicizing his egomania.
HelloMichael: ??? My musing does not refer to state nullification, preemption, the Supremacy Clause, or plenary power (spoken to as recently as SCOTUS’s Texas razor wire/buoy case). I’m sorry if my comment did not narrow my muse.
I simply consider the juxtaposition of the ROLES played: a president’s alleged “go peacefully and patriotically” call to protesters deemed by courts as “involvement” in insurrection, -whereas, vis-a-vis, a governor’s direct threat to the feds to deploy “50,000 Denverites” against the Feds.
” Johnson warned that he would have not only Denver police ‘stationed at the county line to keep [ICE] out’ but also ‘50,000 Denverites.’” )”
So, Denver cops are going to show up and put their a$$e$ in way of bodily harm to confront ICE forces? Somehow, I doubt that. I also doubt that (even as far left as Denver has drifted over the years) he will find 50,000, or even 5,000, citizens who are that stupid. The only way he gets any kind of mass turnout on this is if he uses the illegals themselves, and that would just make ICE’s task a piece of cake.
