Pelosi’s Monster: The Creation and Destruction of Eric Swalwell

Below is my column in the New York Post and the California Post on the Swalwell scandal. Last night, Fox40 just released a statement from “senior staff” in his offices that is crushing. According to the host of “Inside California Politics,” the Swalwell staffers declared that “Any decision of staff members to remain in their roles in the interim should not be viewed as support for Eric Swalwell…We, more than he, understand that we have obligations to the people we lead and to the constituents of California’s 14th Congressional District.”

Here is the column:

In Mary Shelley’s famous work, Dr. Frankenstein is asked, “Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust?”

This week, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D. Calif.), the leading Democratic candidate for California governor, may wish he could ask that of former Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.). After sexual assault allegations were raised by former staff members, Pelosi, Sen. Adam Schiff (D., Calif.), and even his close friend (and former campaign chair) Sen. Ruben Gallego (D., Ariz.) have withdrawn their endorsements.

The fact, however, is that (regardless of the merits of these latest allegations), Swalwell was always a notorious figure in Washington who was constructed by Pelosi and others to serve their interests.

As Pelosi and his other allies now seek to destroy him, they cannot escape their hand in his creation.

Multiple women came forward this week to allege sexual assault and other potentially criminal acts by Swalwell. The first allegations came from a former staffer who said that she was raped twice by Swalwell, who had sex with her when she was too drunk to consent. Swalwell is denying the allegations.

Four women spoke to the Chronicle; one former staffer alleged that she tried to fight off Swalwell who left her bruised and bleeding after a rape. Even CNN, which eagerly featured Swalwell on programs as he attacked the Trump Administration, ran detailed accounts of another alleged assault in a hotel room. One of these accounts is from February of this year.

The accounts, if true, suggest that Swalwell is not just a sexual harasser but a sexual predator operating in plain view. One woman, Ally Sammarco, alleged that she (like other women) received nude photos of Swalwell as well as inappropriate social media messages.

Swalwell’s scandal is about as surprising in Washington as the return of the cicadas.

Swalwell was infamously accused of having an affair with an alleged Chinese spy named Fang Fang. His patron in Congress, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, immediately moved to protect him, declaring, “I don’t have any concern about Mr. Swalwell.”

Pelosi even blocked efforts to remove him from the House Intelligence Committee despite obvious concerns that he was susceptible to blackmail over his sexual trysts.  She lashed out at those calling for his removal in the interests of national security, declaring “I do think that it is unfortunate that Mr. McCarthy is trying to make an issue of this.”

After sexual assault allegations were raised by former staff members, Pelosi, Sen. Adam Schiff and even his close friend (and former campaign chair) Sen. Ruben Gallego have withdrawn their endorsements.

What these women are describing is a politician who felt that he had a license to prey on female staffers. I wonder who gave him that impression?

For years, the Democratic establishment and the media ignored any rumors surrounding Swalwell because he was their useful monster, someone who was an attack dog always straining at the leash.

Swalwell was always the first to a mob. Indeed, he now hopes that voters will not apply the same standard he applied to figures like Justice Brett Kavanaugh. In his confirmation hearing, Kavanaugh faced an allegation of attempted rape from high school, and Swalwell had little patience for those of us arguing for a modicum of due process.

Swalwell said that Kavanaugh’s guilt was self-evident: “More and more cases that are separate and independent, that look the same, pretty soon a prosecutor starts to say to a jury … that the arrows are pointing in the same direction.”

On the Epstein matter, Swalwell demanded full disclosure and called legal concerns “bulls****” in a screaming match with FBI Director Kash Patel.

Recently, Swalwell took a different view on the release of his own FBI files from the Chinese spy scandal. In a cease and desist letter to prevent public disclosure, attorneys Norm Eisen and Sean Hecker warned Patel, “Your actions threaten to expose you, others at the FBI, and the FBI itself to significant legal liability.”

It is now a pile-on as Swalwell’s former enablers run for cover: even Gallego, who posed with Swalwell bare-chested on camels in Qatar. Notably, no one seemed concerned that the trade group US-Qatar Business Council spent more than $84,000 to fly Swalwell, Gallego, and their loved ones to Qatar for the luxurious trip.

The most obvious beneficiary of the scandal, Katie Porter, has denied any involvement with the woman who organized the disclosures against Swalwell. The irony is that Swalwell’s scandal will remove a candidate who has allegedly physically assaulted staffers in favor of a candidate who has verbally assaulted staffers.

The implosion of Eric Swalwell is raising questions about how so many close associates and friends could not have known about the rumors of his misconduct. Now, suddenly, Swalwell has no friends or allies after years of being praised by Pelosi and many in the media.

Mary Shelley made the point most vividly in Frankenstein that there is little difference between the creators and the monsters in such moments: “It is true, we shall be monsters, cut off from all the world; but on that account we shall be more attached to one another.”

  1. A little late to the party but for those of you with a musical taste try ‘Karn Evil 9 1st Impression’ by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. It seems this wonderful group had it all figured out about the clown show in DC. Con*Gress uses our tax dollars to use as payoff to keep people quiet.

  2. There he was, Swalwell. Gassing away into the Me Too megaphone, flatulating Epstein smears against Trump and spouse. He called for the release of Epstein files (hey, even a stopped clock is right 2x a day), then called for the withholding of the Fang Fang files that would have reminded us all of how easy it was for a honeypot to play him. All the while, allegedly sex-pesting his interns.

I honestly can’t believe how repulsive all three main Democratic candidates for CA governor were. Now only two.

Where do they come up with these people? How could the Democratic Party not do a little better for Californians?

These politicians are unfit. Does the whole state have to burn down before voters say, You’re not good enough. I’m sick to death of you. Your candidacy insults my intelligence.

    1. I think they’ve known about this for years and it all came out now because the top two in the polls are both Republicans and they need to eliminate one democrat to change that

    1. Plus he’s having a bad day

  3. Orbán Strikes Out!

For weeks we have seen headlines noting that both ‘Putin and Trump’ support Viktor Orbán’s reelection.

The optics of those headlines don’t look good, of course. Especially when Trump dispatches Marco Rubio to campaign for Orbán. And J D Vance makes the trip two weeks after Rubio. Like ‘why’ is a Putin’s lapdog so important to America?

It’s turns out Hungarians were wondering the same thing. If Putin and Trump are both supporting Orbán, that’s a red flag!

So Hungarians overwhelmingly elected Orbán’s opponent. That’s a slap in the face to the politics Trump had hoped to foist on Europe. Now if only Americans could show that level of sense.

  4. Now that Congressman Eric Swallwell, Member of the House Committee of Judiciary/Homeland Security, suspened his campaign, former Congresswoman Katie Porter elevated as a leading contender for next CA-Governor. It will be interesting to observe how intensely MSM cover longstanding allegations like those domestic violance accusations of her ex-husband Matt Hoffman or criticism from former staffers who have accused her of fostering a toxic workplace environment.

    1. This reeks of the same trick that Pritzker pulled in IL in the last election cycle. His PAC’s financially supported the least likely Republican to challenge him for Gov, which had the popular black Sheriff of Dupage County drop out of the race. Pritzker won the race easily. The radical Left will eat their own to gain or remain in power, obviously!

  5. If Swalwell were a republican he could become secretary of defense or secretary of commerce or if he were even more a sexual predator like Trump he could even be President.

    1. Republicans would have tossed that piece of garbage out . Nancy Pelosi was a big supporter of his but even that phony had to drop him like a hot potato. And before you defend PIGLOSI , I lived in that phony’s district in San Francisco , but all she did was rent an apartment there. If Swalwell was a republican , he would have been thrown out. FYI President Trump was a great supporter in the demorat party and gave them millions but THEY treated him like dirt. FYI he and his father were great BUILDERS in the NY City area , Honest and their buildings are STILL some of the best housing in NY.

  6. Swalwell has suspended his campaign.

In other news, America is now the world’s gas station. We’re raking in the money, Iran is starved of petrodollars, China is starved of cheap oil.

Trump – the masterclass in how to handle world affairs. The commie America-haters will wail like banshees, since they hate both America and Trump. Meanwhile, normal Americans will benefit hugely. This is exactly what I voted for. WINNING!!!!

    1. Oldman, “we” are not raking in anything. Some multinational oil companies are. This American President is trying to get lower prices to sell its irreplaceable oil so that a few billionaires can have even more money to do things like buy single family homes off the market and rent them out at colluded upon prices. They are trying to get an AI to work so they don’t need human employees in their companies. How is that winning?

    2. Old man: I literally remain stunned at the MAGA blindness to reality. Trump–“masterclass in how to handle world affairs”? Trump can’t even handle domestic affairs–gas prices are up, the stock market is down, unemployment is up, the cost of groceries is rising, millions of Americans have lost healthcare because Trump took away Obamacare subsidies and Democrats keep flipping Republican seats. The Republicans haven’t flipped a single formerly Democrat seat. The Epstein Scandal hasn’t gone away, and he fired the Attorney General and head of Homeland Security for incompetence. Americans are taking to the streets in record numbers–and this is the first time in history that Americans have marched AGAINST a President. There have been marches for civil rights, equal rights, voting rights, for passage of the ADA, but never before protesting a president. Trump keeps setting records for low approval ratings.

Do you MAGAts think that if you keep repeating lies and ignoring reality that you’ll convince anyone? That’s what billionaire-run MAGA media does, but it’s not working. First of all the war–why? The reason keeps changing. First, it was the lie that Iran had nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles that could reach the US and were poised to nuke us within days–lies that were rejected by Bush, Biden and Obama–they saw through Bibi’s lies. We were monitoring Iran’s nuclear enrichment program until Trump tore up the agreement brokered by Obama; now, we’ll be lucky to get that back. Israel has been itching to increase its territory into Lebanon, just like it stole the West Bank from the Palestinian people and moved in 800K Israelis, but needed the US to help. So, we start bombing Iran and Israel starts bombing Lebanon. Trump keeps lying about Iran not having any air force, navy or missiles, but they keep shooting down our aircraft and bombing US allies in the Middle East. Now, China is going to provide Iran with shoulder-mounted missiles. Trump is running a tab of over a billion dollars a day–for what?

Bush, Biden and Obama were wise enough to see through the lies and told Bibi to stick it. Why the war? After the lie about Iran being ready to nuke us, it was regime change, then it wasn’t regime change. Before any of this went down, dumbaxx was told that the Strait of Hormuz would be blocked and the worldwide price of petrol would go up, as well as the cost for fertilizer and other materials. The price of groceries will go up because farmers need diesel fuel and fertilizer and the planting season is upon us. The Strait was closed ONLY because of Trump’s stupidity and arrogance. Whiskey Pete convinced him that if we started bombing Iran and killed the supreme leader that it would turn out like Venezuela. Trump somehow got the stupid idea that the Iranian people would rise up and take over the government. The Irainian Revolutionary Guard is still there, and the people don’t have the weapons to defeat them. What happened was that the Supreme Leader’s son took over, and he is more radical than his father was. We gave him and the Iranian people additional reasons to hate the US–bombing a girls’ school and then lying about it and blaming Iran. We have lost 13 of our servicemembers and hundreds have been injured. For what?

Vance and Kushner struck out in Pakistan. Vance campaigned for Viktor Orban, who was soundly defeated. According to local news reports, Vance’s advocacy helped seal the deal. Now that Orban is gone, the Ukrainians will get the aid that he blocked and NATO and the EU will be stronger. The deal brokered by Obama took years of patient diplomacy, and Obama didn’t have to drop any bombs to get it done. Trump keeps issuing ultimatums and then backing down. He keeps rage-tweeting at all hours of the night about Obama, about Joe Biden and posted an AI-generated picture of himself as Jesus Christ. Trump is going after Pope Leo–calling him weak, and US Bishops have had it with Trump. Now, Trump’s back to threatening Cuba and Greenland in his delusionary world where he is important, feared and respected. He is an international joke and a massive flop. What a “masterclass” on how NOT to succeed. Winning? In what delusional world are you talking about?

      1. “The deal brokered by Obama took years of patient diplomacy, and Obama didn’t have to drop any bombs to get it done.”

Not one word of sympathy for Laken Riley’s mom, even as he smashed in her skull. You have nothing. You are evil scum.

      2. “just like it stole the West Bank from the Palestinian people”

You are so ignorant you do not realize that there never was a Palestinian people. That was a recent creation for political gain sucked up by stupid people. Look at the newspapers of olden days. They talk about the Palestinian farmers. At that time they were referring to the Jews. The West Bank was part of the British Mandate and was occupied by Jordan.
