Rape Victim in Saudi Arabia Given 200 Lashes and 6 Months in Jail

A 19-year-old woman was gang raped and probably thought the worst was over when she survived and went to the authorities. However, she was sentenced to 90 lashes for “being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape.” When she told the media of this outrage, the Saudi Arabia’s Higher Judicial Council increased the sentence to 200 lashes and six months in jail. In meantime, the six men who raped her received the remarkably light sentence of between one and five years in prison.

Such outrages raises core human rights issues that exist between us and one of our closest allies. The religious courts in Saudi Arabia continue to mete out their own brand of justice and women are often victimized in sex-related cases.

I always find it amusing when people try to defend these arab states that rule by their dangerous and evil sharia law. Amongst other human rights abuses, they treat women like hogs, advocating beating and keeping them inside like animals. Even supposed allies of the U.S. such as Saudi Arabia are no more humane than Iran, Iraq, and Syria. I am surprised that anything happened to the men, and that the woman was not killed by her own family after going to the police for such a “trivial” matter as rape. “Honor” killings are very common, especially for such things as rape, incest, and casual sex. Even the teddy bear persecuted Palestinians are well known for this type of justice. The man gets off with like a couple months or he is encouraged to kill the seductress who tempted his holy male muslimness.

Acupnster: Too late. But I’ve been told by the media that it is a religion of peace. Whew! It’s good to know this is just the fringe element. Trouble is, the fringe just keeps getting larger.

i am muslim but i found these rules are against islam and give very bad image to nun muuslims. in real islam the girl is free to go out and do what she wants if she did wrong or write it between her and gud to forgive her or bunish er. it is not the responsibility of these men who have inferiority complex regarding any women issues.
