Human Rights Watch Demands Saudi King Drop Charges and Flogging Sentence Against Rape Victim

Human Rights Watch called upon Saudi King Abdullah “to immediely void the verdict and drop all charges against the rape victim and to order the court to end its harassment of her lawyer.”  The lawyer has been stripped of his license by a religious court, which doubled the flogging sentence of woman after the lawyer sought public support for his client.  Where is the American Bar Association?  This is a case that is not just an attack on the profession but the most fundamental principles of the rule of law.  If this woman is flogged, Saudi Arabia will rightly viewed as a grotesque system of religious fanaticism.  For a prior entry, click here

Thanks for your post. I just wrote one about what it means when such brutality is “normalized” by virtue of simply being used on a regular basis…when in fact it ought to be regarded still as beyond the pale. I am providing the link in case you are interested. http://euandus3.wordpress.com/2009/10/25/using-rape-against-political-protesters/
