Human Rights Watch called upon Saudi King Abdullah “to immediely void the verdict and drop all charges against the rape victim and to order the court to end its harassment of her lawyer.” The lawyer has been stripped of his license by a religious court, which doubled the flogging sentence of woman after the lawyer sought public support for his client. Where is the American Bar Association? This is a case that is not just an attack on the profession but the most fundamental principles of the rule of law. If this woman is flogged, Saudi Arabia will rightly viewed as a grotesque system of religious fanaticism. For a prior entry, click here
