Not a Catch: North Carolina Woman With Five Dead Husbands Accused of Murder Solicitation

If you are looking for a soul mate, you may want to reconsider any proposal from Betty Neumar: she has buried the last five men who said I do. Police have arrested the 76-year-old for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to kill one of her five prior husbands. All five are now dead, including Harold Gentry, the alleged target of the murder-for-hire plot.

Gentry died in 1986 and his brother has been trying to get an investigation for two decades. Gentry was Neumar’s fourth husband. He was found shot to death on July 14, 1986. Yet, Neumar’s other husbands also have met untimely ends. Her third husband,Richard Sills, was shot to death in 1965 — but it was ruled a suicide even though Neumar was in the room at the time. Three years after Gentry’s death, Neumar married John Neumar, who died in October. While ruled a death caused by sepsis (bacterial infection of the body’s blood and tissues), police not suspect poison.

Police are investigating the deaths of the other two husbands.

Given the “Black Widows case”, one could develop a certain phobia of amorous women beyond a certain age.
