New York Men Jailed for Five Days After Being Caught in Possession of Coconut Candy

While in Pittsburgh a teen is claiming that he was beaten by officers who were suspicious of a Mountain Dew in his pocket (here), Cesar Rodriguez and Jose Pena claim that they were not only arrested but jailed for days for what turned out to be candy mistaken as crack.

The men have filed a two million dollar lawsuit against the city.

After they had spent five days in jail, the police concluded that they had made one of the biggest coconut candy (known as crema de coco) busts. The men say that they kept telling Officer Anthony Burgos of the 48th Precinct that it was candy to no avail. They suggested he simply taste the candy, insisting “It just melts in your mouth.”

For those of you interested in setting up hidden C de C labs, here is the recipe for crema de coco.

  1. We need to end the “war on drugs” now. Drug treatment programs, not police, are the way to treat drug abuse.

The jails are overcrowded with non-violent criminals who are there simply for life style choices not to mention racism.

Get the government out of peoples lives as most people are saints compared to our corrupt, plutocratic, politicians; they should replace all the non-violent drug offenders in jail.

  2. Clearly the nutritional information on the label led the police to conclude it was an illegal drug.

  3. From reading some of the comments that were sent to the newspaper,It seems as if some people think that (5) days on Rikers Island is like (5) days on the Island Of Jamaica.

  4. This is one for all the people who insist that if you haven’t done anything wrong-you don’t have anything to fear.

    Never talk to the police.

  5. These out of control cops are disturbing. When will the rule of law return? How many millions will these police departments have to pay out before their respective city governments rein them in? Is it normal for 2 or 3 days to go by before defendants are given an arraignment before a judge?

“He searched the car and found no alcohol, so he kept her and her friends at the curb for an hour until after curfew and then had them sent to court for violating curfew.”

That looks like a job for two intelligent law school students to tackle and correct!

  7. My sister got juvenile court-ordered community service after police assumed the can of cola-cola she was drinking was beer. He searched the car and found no alcohol, so he kept her and her friends at the curb for an hour until after curfew and then had them sent to court for violating curfew.

    The old saying is

surround your self with good people and good things will happen to you.

surround your self with bad people and bad things will happen to you.

Of course there is always an exception to that when you grow up in a bad neighborhood.”

With the above post in mind, sit back with your morning coffee and read these comments:

  9. You know the Officers could confuse this with crack. Its easy to do, I presume.

The question remains, why didn’t the Officer field test the suspected substance?
