It appears that the number of wounded soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan is much higher than reported by the U.S. military. The official toll is 30,327. The withheld cases, therefore, constitutes a massive reduction of the casualty figures given to Congress and the public. If the number of wounded if now over 50,000 the costs of these wars is far greater than previously considered when new appropriations and potential deadlines for withdrawal were rejected.
