The Bush Administration is proceeding with its plan to train firefighters to help identify terror suspects in a move that could threaten not just civil liberties but the firefighters themselves.
As previously discussed on this blog, firefighters are being trained to help identify terror suspects. The Homeland Security people have realized that fire inspectors and firefighters can do someone that it cannot as a general rule: enter homes without a warrant. This is the latest effort to create a network of people asked to perform such a role. The Bush Administration has previously enlisted truckers, medical staff, postal workers, and of course telecommunication companies. It moves us closer to the goal of “total transparency” often discussed among security people: making people more visible to surveillance and monitoring.
It also seems to confirm the statement of the deputy national security director that Americans need to simply get over their old-fashioned concepts of privacy. For Kerr’s dismissal of privacy, click here

I have followed Sibel Edmonds via Lukery for a couple of years. Perhaps here is a good chance to test the ‘State Secrets’ statutes. The litany of governmental offenses that touch Sibel Edmonds is too long for mention here, but certainly worth a look-see with Lukery.
Jonathan,
thanks for your reply.
I’ve been actively involved with Sibel’s case for a number of years. In many ways she was a ‘canary in the coal mine’ for the abuse of the SSP by this administration.
Would you be available for a phone interview to discuss the case? (I can’t find a contact email address for you on the site)
Thanks
Lukery
Lukery:
I am familiar with Sibel Edmonds and have tried to follow her case. It is quite a story and equally disturbing.
I’m, just puttin’ IT out there… Anybody care to comment?
The character of Deputy Dawg (a dog) was a deputy sheriff in the Mississippi bayous of the United States. The other main characters were the ‘varmints’ Muskie Muskrat, Moley Mole, Possible ‘Possum, Ty Coon, Vincent van Gopher, and Dawg’s boss the Sheriff, as well as Mrs. Deputy. Much of the comedy was sight gag/action based with some focused around comical accents and stereotypical southern characteristics. Deputy Dawg was voiced by Dayton Allen, a prolific Hollywood voice actor who voiced many Terrytoons characters in television and theatrical shorts in the 1950s and 1960s. The cartoon character is often mimicked for days on end by Eamon Swift around North London.

I wrote a post (and video) linking up your recent appearances (KO, Rhandi Rhodes) discussing the State Secrets Privilege with the case of former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds. The govt used the SSP to shut her up because she has evidence of serious wrongdoing and criminality in the govt.
Are you familiar with her case?
I may be naive, but if they are performing law enforcement functions, then the constitutional rigors that apply to police must also apply to them while they are performing such functions.
The government is trying to create a class of non-police police who flicker in & out of policehood, evading the relevant restrictions.
This is an obvious end-run.
