North Carolina Parents Arrested in Death of Son Who They Tied to Tree

In a reminder that Father’s Day is not always a happy occasion for some children, police have arrested Brice Brian McMillan, 41, and his wife Sandra Elizabeth McMillan, 36, in the death of their 13-year-old son, Tyler Gene McMillan, who they tied to a tree as punishment. The couple in Macclesfield, North Carolina are charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse.

Brice McMillan tied the boy to the tree as a form of discipline on a Tuesday night. He then untied the boy on Wednesday morning, but when he acted badly again, he tied him to the tree again Wednesday night. He was found unconscious at 4:30 pm on Thursday night. McMillan was performing CPR when paramedics arrived. Tyler was in cardiac arrest. Imagine what it takes in terms of fright and stress to cause a teenage boy to go into cardiac arrest.

The police said that the boy’s wrists and ankles were bound with plastic ties and that he was also tied to the tree with some other material.

Tyler’s biological mother Michelle “Mickey” Sasser McMillan, died of cancer and the children were being homeschooled — no doubt to protect them from the negative influences of public schools.

  1. Parents killing their children, school officials having them arrested at graduation ceremonies for applauding, cops asserting children as young as 6. I could go on and on with examples. It seems that children are becoming the enemy, and I don’t know why. There’s not a soul in this world that has to bring another life into it. And why people bring children into this world just to mis-treat and abuse them is simply beyond me.
