The Maverick Makes Millions: Palin Makes More Than $12 Million Since July

Those small town values can add up. After quitting her job as Alaska Governor before the end of her term, Sarah Palin has raked in an estimated $12 million since July. Between speaking fees and her new reality show, Palin is becoming one of the wealthiest political figures in the country. In the meantime, questions are being raised about one organization that paid a speaking fee for Palin in California.

Pundits can debate the political costs and benefits of Sarah Palin’s decision to step down as Alaska governor, but the monetary advantages of leaving her $125,000-a-year public service post are beyond dispute.

This amounted includes $7 million deal for her first book and will earn $250,000 per episode for her new reality show.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown has ordered an investigation into the shredding of documents related to a Palin speech by the Cal State Stanislaus foundation, here. A state legislator had demanded documents on the speech, which may have come with a hefty $100,000 speaking fee.

  1. Ms. EM,

The problem is that Ms. Palin has many decent, honest, intelligent, but very quiet supporters. All of my Republican relatives like her, they represent all occupations, and some are exceptionally accomplished people. The common thread is their devotion to Christianity above all else and that is one of life’s great enigmas to me.

  2. Oh no Dr. Slarti I want you to stay up all night with me and discuss the religion of global warming science 🙂

  3. Bdaman,

I believe that taxing pollution is the most effective way to curtail it – that’s what Byron and I were arguing about on the 120% thread before it was hijacked by the Bob and Robert’s two-man 9/11 truth movement (with a special appearance by Duh) and Byron and I found common cause. I’m willing to debate this again, but I’d appreciate it if you’d give me a little break right now – I’m overloaded.

  4. Dr. Slarti I have no problem with what you posted. Where I have a problem is in Lies and Deception in order to generate a tax to redistribute monies to other countries. I realize that this is One World, One Heart, Lets get Togetter and Feel Alright but come on.

Carbon Credits allow polluters to continue to pollute. Is this a solution you would pick?

  5. Bdaman,

It’s always been my position that:

    (a) Science is self-correcting in this regard (which I think this is an example of) – the problem here is people on both sides trying to sensationalize the science instead of letting the scientists determine the facts and then debating about how to deal with them.

    (b) Dealing with pollution (and carbon emission levels, while not the best metric of pollution are a reasonable one) is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with for a wide range of reasons EVEN IF THE SCIENTIFIC CONSENSUS IS COMPLETELY WRONG. I think that you do a disservice to this effort with your AGW posts. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

  6. And in Hawaii

A recent poll shows Republican Charles Djou is tied with Democrat Ed Case for the lead in Oahu’s special congressional election, according to The Atlantic magazine.

The poll, which The Atlantic said was conducted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, puts Democrat Colleen Hanabusa in third place, just a few points behind Djou and Case.

In January, when KITV4 and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin conducted the last poll that went public, Case was the clear leader. The former congressman had 37 percent of the vote, followed by Senate President Hanabusa in second place with close to 25 percent. Councilman Djou, a Republican, trailed in third with 17 percent of the vote.

But according to a more recent poll reported by Atlantic magazine, Case and Djou are now tied with 32 percent of the vote, with Hanabusa in third place at 27 percent. About nine percent of the respondents were undecided, Atlantic reported, citing a Democratic source who’d seen results of a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee poll.

Djou is elated with the results, saying, “Momentum has clearly shifted in favor of our campaign and this is certainly something that I’m very excited about.”

  8. Bdaman,

Dick Vitale ranked Duke as #1 to start next season (I think that Zoubek is going to be harder to replace than people think). Seriously, I think that the veneration of ‘going by your gut’ over listening to experts and re-evaluating decisions as new facts become available is extremely worrisome.

  9. Dr. Slarti that would be like telling the Duke National Champions enjoy it you can’t expect to be number one next year. 🙂

This is certainly true if we don’t reverse the trends which led to people like W and caribou barbie becoming elected leaders.

  11. It’s not only the T-party add the Cubans.

The Estefans may have broken more than a rule when they decided to host a cocktail reception for the president during his visit to South Florida on Thursday. Estefan, along with husband Emilio, also broke a bond that had united them with Miami’s Cuban community, whose members largely oppose the president’s agenda.

The Estefans, for their part, have implied that they’re simply using the opportunity to increase awareness about the Cuban people’s plight. What’s more, they note that they believe in supporting good candidates regardless of party.

They would have a convincing argument except for one very important detail: The event isn’t merely a conversation about Cuba with the president while sipping a cortadito. Nor is it designed to raise funds for a particular cause or candidate they support.

They are hosting a $30,400-a-couple fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee, and, by extension, helping to fund the entire Democratic Party agenda. It’s a proactive, partisan stance that goes well beyond, say, deciding to sing at a presidential inauguration or accepting a presidential appointment to oversee a nonpartisan cause.

  12. It’s sad that so many of them don’t want to listen to anything scientists and other experts have to say about various and sundry subjects.

A key piece of evidence in climate change science was slammed as “exaggerated” on Wednesday by the UK’s leading statistician, in a vindication of claims that global warming sceptics have been making for years.

Professor David Hand, president of the Royal Statistical Society, said that a graph shaped like an ice hockey stick that has been used to represent the recent rise in global temperatures had been compiled using “inappropriate” methods.

At least they will vote republican 🙂

I think it’s a group that’s extremely vocal about its opinions–a group larger than I’d like to consider…but smaller than some people may think. These folks surely produce a lot of noise though–it’s an incoherent cacophony of kooks. Many are just dittoheads…spouting what they’ve heard on talk radio or FOX News.

It’s sad that so many of them don’t want to listen to anything scientists and other experts have to say about various and sundry subjects. They’ll listen to Caribou Barbie though. You betcha!

Maybe some are so busy making preparations for The Rapture they don’t have time to think and reflect. Beam them up now, Scotty!
