Nigeria will file charges against former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and officials from Halliburton Co. and four other companies in a bribery case involving $180 million. It is rather ironic that Cheney can go around bragging about torturing people, but will be charged criminally with a bribe in Nigeria. I will be discussing this and the Wikileaks case tonight on Countdown.
Godwin Obla, prosecuting counsel at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said the indictment will likely come in a matter of days. The arrest warrant for Cheney will issue from Interpol.
Cheney was CEO from 1995 to 2000. Nigeria has already arrested roughly two dozen people from Halliburton, Saipem, Technip and a former subsidiary of Panalpina Welttransport Holding AG in connection with alleged illegal payments to Nigerian officials.
At issue in this case is $180 million in bribes allegedly made to secure a $6 billion liquefied natural-gas contract.

An Interpol warrant would create a bit of a problem for the Obama Administration, which is pushing for the arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Sweden released a warrant this week against Assange and Interpol added him to its most wanted list.

In reading the responses to this article and to others with the Obama Administration protecting its political enemies, others are wondering, as I, if someone has something on Obama. I don’t believe that he is so dishonest that he could campaign for 2 years with the rhetoric of a liberal and then be turn out to be a corporatist.
Something is out-reality to me in what has happened to the man that we all believed in. Let’s see if the Administration will allow Nigeria to go forward with their arrest and prosecution. Of course you must wonder if Cheney’s health can withstand this humiliation.
Thank goodness you are making these stories public since the typical corporate news media will go out of its way to keep these types of stories out of the pubic’s view. Thanks to you and to Hardball.
Merry Christmas … Dick
It’s a good thing Japan has rejected. Remember under Obama’s Plan electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.

Whoops! I should have spelled “continue” correctly the first time. My fingers are faster than my brain!
Jill,
I have been holding Obama’s feet to the fire and I will contineu to. I am against most wars and Iraq and Afghanistan are on that list. However,I cannot join you in the march on Washington, but good luck.
Wait, a dishonest man was dishonest? I for one am shocked.
I thought this was funny.

So the country that hosted that farce now rejects it. Can you get a better example of rejection of this political agenda?
Jun Arima, an official in the government’s economics trade and industry department, in an open session, was the strongest yet made against the protocol by one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases.
He said: “Japan will not inscribe its target under the Kyoto protocol on any conditions or under any circumstances.”
2011 looks as if its going to be more interesting than any of us could have imagined.
You can say that again, wonder if we’re all gonna die now.

As gratifying as the prospect of Cheney in shackles is, it’s not going to happen. Has anyone seen a recent picture of him? He’s dying. He has a mechanical heart. He lived well and long, became wealthy and powerful and will be dead before the sheriff knocks on his door. Sorry, he gets the last laugh folks. Justice delayed is justice denied.
Jill, General George Patton was there also to help clear the veterans out of their tent city. I thought he led the calvary charge but he only gave the order as it turns out. He wasn’t a General then but I’m sure his valiant actions that day helped him become one.
I hope a lot of people show up, a lot. I also hope it’s the first of many large groups of citizens to seek redress of their grievances in the heart of the Capitol. It’s overdue.
2011 looks as if its going to be more interesting than any of us could have imagined.
rafflaw,
You once said you would hold Obama’s feet to the fire for failure to prosecute Bush and Cheney for war crimes. Did you know that like your brother, my husband is a Nam Vet? I was thinking of all our young people sent to kill and be killed by a lying son of a bitch president when I asked Harold Koh why Bush wasn’t under arrest after admitting to ordering torture and starting a war under false pretense.
You said you would get on the bus. For the sake of your son, your brother and the other veterans sent to kill or be kill in these wars based on lies, will you join the Veterans of Peace march in Washington? Here’s the info: ” *A December 16th Veterans-Led March In Washington To Stop The Wars In Afghanistan And Iraq -From The “Stop These Wars” Website
WELCOME TO STOP THESE WARS Join Us For Peace on Earth!
During the Vietnam War, Martin Luther King called our government “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.” True then—and even more so today.
A few years before that, in 1964 Mario Savio made his great speech at Berkeley; at the end he says, “There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can’t take part; you can’t even passively take part, and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!”
There are children being orphaned, maimed or killed every day, in our name, with our tax dollars; there are soldiers and civilians dying or being maimed for life, in order to generate profits for the most odious imperialistic corporate war machine ever, again in our name. How long are we going to let this go on? Until it is too late, until this destructive machine destroys all of us and the planet to boot?
Wikileaks has revealed the documented horror of U.S. war-making, beyond what any of us imagined. It’s time veterans and others express our resistance directly and powerfully by putting ourselves on the line, once again—honestly, courageously and without one drop of apology for doing so. It is not we who are the murderers, torturers or pillagers of the earth.
Profit and power-hungry warmongers are destroying everything we hold dear and sacred.
In the early thirties, WW1 vets descended on Washington, D.C., to demand their promised bonuses, it being the depths of the Depression. General Douglas MacArthur and his sidekick Dwight Eisenhower disregarded President Herbert Hoover’s order and burned their encampment down and drove the vets out of town at bayonet point.
We are today’s bonus marchers, and we’re coming to claim our bonus–PEACE.
Join activist veterans marching in solidarity to the White House, refusing to move, demanding the end of U.S. wars, which includes U.S. support—financial and tactical—for the Israeli war machine as well.
If we can gather enough courageous souls, nonviolently refusing to leave the White House, willing to be dragged away and arrested if necessary, we will send a message that will be seen worldwide. “End these wars – now!” We will carry forward a flame of resistance to the war machine that will not diminish as we effectively begin to place ourselves, as Mario Savio said, “upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus.” and we will make it stop.
We believe that the power of courageous, committed people is greater than that of corporate warmongers. But we will only see our power when we use it collectively, when we stand together.
With courage, persistence, boldness and numbers, we can eventually make this monstrous war machine grind to a halt, so that our children and all children everywhere can grow up in a peaceful world.
Join us at the White House on December 16th!
For a world in peace,
Torture by the favored powerful triggers the automatic “looking forward law” of Obama. Exposing torture or other wrong doing by favored powerful triggers international arrest. That’s what it says in the NUconstitution.
Prof,I thought if you played it backwards it would say “Paul is dead!” Sorry, wrong decade!
It is very exciting that Dark Vader Cheney will be a wanted man! It makes sense that money would be the cause of his being brought to justice. Now, I just hope the Obama administration does not try to block it like it did with the Spanish torture investigation. Why would you want to help and Teapublican after their continued attempts to stop everything your administration is trying to do? Does someone have some pictures on somebody, or what?!
IF the Arrest Warrant was issued by Interpol, doesn’t that apply globally?? Makes it real hard for the scum to travel, hey??
roflol
Hmmmmm. Irony and coffee. Yummy.
I look forward to seeing you Countdown tonight, Prof.
Tell Keith that Buddha says “Howdy!” 😉
Certainly, BIL. If you play the video backwards, you will hear those very words tonight.
Assange: helping people learn truths about their governments through factual documentation – ARREST HIM!
Cheney: obfuscating the truth with lies and deceit – BUT HE’S A FORMER US VP!!!!
