Arizona Lawyer Suspended For Relationship With Client and Misrepresentations in His Case

The Arizona state supreme court has suspended attorney Cynthia Leyh over a conflict of interest and other misconduct in her representation of her convicted boyfriend, Walter Stringer.

In addition to the six-month suspension, Leyh received two years of probation. She is accused of failing to inform the court of material facts in seeking to modify or terminate her boyfriend’s probation. In the report (Leyh.Report), the probation officer felt that Leyh had undo influence over Stringer and had allowed him to be at her house in violation of orders requiring pre-approval. She was also accused of hiding material facts and misstating other facts to the court. The probation officer had rejected requests for Stringer to actually move in with Leyh.

The order (Leyh.order) includes a requirement that Leyh “shall view the video entitled ‘Ten Deadly Sins of Conflict’ and complete the State Bar’s Professionalism Course.” I expect that most exciting part of that video is the title.

“I hope that Walter wasn’t just “stringing” her along to get free legal services out of her!”

Oh so quick, this morning… Another smile, from one who has never liked or used those dreadful smiley faces…

  2. The video will probably be the worst part of the discipline! It looks like she may have received a very mild slap on the wrist. I hope that Walter wasn’t just “stringing” her along to get free legal services out of her!

  3. Something is not quite right with this story…..something is a miss and I am not speaking of the battle of the wills…..
