Time to Apologize, Rush

Submitted by Lawrence Rafferty, (rafflaw), Guest Blogger

Since Professor Turley is snowbound in the Winter Wonderland, the weekend warriors are back to bring your blood pressure up!

I have been critical of the Right Wing Mass Media for its continual banging of the drum of hate towards President Obama and the Democrats in general. Now, there are times that the Democrats and President Obama should be called on the carpet.  For instance, for not confronting the Bush torture crowd and for claiming that the President has the authority to kill American citizens without due process, just to name a couple. However, the civility that President Obama has asked for in his latest speeches, have gone unheeded by many on the Right and some on the Left.

We all succumb to the emotion at times and say things that we shouldn’t, but the Right seems to carry these statements to an extreme and they are unapologetic for it. Yesterday, fans of Rush Limbaugh faxed death threats to California State Representative and San Francisco Mayoral candidate, Leland Yee, because Lee had requested Rush to apologize for Rush’s ill-tempered and racially charged comments about the Chinese President during his recent visit to the United States. Rush mocked President Hu Jintao’s speech and Mr. Yee “..said Limbaugh owes the Chinese community an apology for his “pointless and ugly offense.” ‘. http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/crime/2011/01/leland-yee-receives-racist-death-threat

You can guess the result of State Rep. Lee’s request for an apology from Rush Limbaugh. He continued his rant and mocked Rep. Lee on the next program. I know some of you will want to know why the authorities believe that Rush’s fans are behind the death threats. Take a look at one of the faxes on the link below and you will understand.  Rep. Lee received similar threats in April of last year that are also being investigated.

I would put the fax on here, but the language is a bit “rough”.   See below for a link to the faxes in question.  Those who continue to voice their ugly rhetoric in the mass media have a responsibility for the result of that rhetoric. I for one think they are getting the response that they are looking for. What do you think?

  1. “Greed is good”

So is drinking copious amounts of alcohol. But too much can wreak havoc on the liver.

  2. Wow … Tootie was up early this morning with his/her vision of filthy leftest … and Chan L chimed in with uneducated … somebody is makin’ money this mornin’!

The satchel and pearls dude must need a new pair of shoes.

“When millionairs use the bankruptcy system to restart their business or to unload of profitable businesses, aren’t they taking from the system and stiffing their creditors?”

I work for a firm that specializes in bankruptcy. The same people who blame others for living beyond their means, who see people unable to pay their mortgages due to the loss of a job or medical debt as deadbeats and disparage those who aren’t “successful” are the first ones to file for bankruptcy.

We are required to do background checks as part of our due diligence – most of these people aren’t the lowly, lazy government-leeching ingrates that some people have deluded themselves into thinking that are filing for bankruptcy. Far from it.

  4. Tootie:

Aren’t you just full of piss and vinegar! Well, from my perspective, more piss than vinegar.

After reading your posts, and seeing what kind of person you are, I will wear the “filthy leftists” badge with honor. Better to be a filthy leftist with a conscience, compassion, a willingness to learn with the ability to marvel at the world for the wonder it is than a small-minded, bitter, hateful, bigotted woman with a perverse interpretation of the “Christian” message she claims to live by.

I suspect that when you reach the Pearly Gates, St. Peter’s going to kick you squarely in your ass. Good luck with that.

  5. Chan,
under what threat were these banks “forced” to take money? That is the term you used, forced. Your definition of greed is a little skewed. You don’t think Bill Gates or any other billionaire didn’t succeed at “the expense of another”? Microsoft was gaming the PC systems against competitors for years when it required pc makers to package their software at the expense of other companies. When millionairs use the bankruptcy system to restart their business or to unload of profitable businesses, aren’t they taking from the system and stiffing their creditors? When millionaires send their jobs overseas so that they can make more profits, are they not doing that at the expense of the American workers who get laid off?

  6. rafflaw:

they are gangsters, there is a difference. I do not think that Bush, Paulson and his wall street buddies who took government (read other people’s) money are good people. They are criminals plain and simple.

Greed means avid desire for gain or wealth. As long as it is not at the expense of another and is not gained by force why is it a problem? Bill Gates didn’t steel from me or force me to buy Microsoft products. He hasn’t prevented me from doing anything, he has made my life easier.

  7. rafflw,

it comes from the government to the banks…then it has to be good…right…thats ok….

  8. rafflaw:

no I am not living in a different world. There were banks that were forced to take the money.

  9. The banks were forced to take the money???? Chan, are you living in a different world? I worked for a bank then and they didn’t take any money. I guess they just weren’t big enough for the Bush Administration to care about! Those criinals that you mention are the same people who subscribe to your theory that Greed is Good. How can they be Correct and good and criminals, all at the same time?

  10. Chan:

    Select reading – typical kid.

And no, one doesn’t need a Nobel prize as proof of intelligence on any given matter, however, it does indicate that one is pretty astute on said matter.

I certainly wouldn’t go to an orthodontist to determine what the abnormality is in my right breast. Meaning, I’ll take the word of experts, like Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, over some kid (such as yourself), full of self-aggrandizing delusions posting on a blog any day of the week.

    But, thanks for playing.

  11. rafflaw:

why did the “banksters” get bailed out? Didn’t government do it by force? Not all the banks wanted a bailout, they didn’t need them but they were forced to take the money because the government didn’t want the public to know which banks were in trouble.

Yes it is very sad indeed, that a bunch of criminals in government and industry literally stole money from productive people to give to the “banksters” who were incompetent. There is that Marxist/socialist social conscience again. Didn’t the government say they were doing it to save “Main Street”?

  12. I guess I shouldn’t have slept in this morning. I missed all this “dirty” talk! Tootie, you have a very narrow view of the world snd politics. I have no problem with you thinking you are always right, I feel the same way. (or at least that is what my kids tell me) However, someone who doesn’t agree with you or thinks differently or actually tries to use facts to support their argument should not be denigrated as being filthy. Also, I want to echo what Elaine asked. I have been called a lot of things by people on the Right, but never filthy. Why don’t you define for us why people on the Left are all “filthy”.
    Chan,
Are you really Gordon Gecko in disguise? Greed is good for society? So when the Banksters basically bankrupt the country and get bailed out by the government, it is good that they continue to be greedy and take huge bonuses before they have paid off all of their debts to the government? Very sad.

  13. “I don’t have a social conscience (read Marxist/socialist humanist outlook).”

    There.

    That’s better.

  14. Chan,

You left out Slart, he’s got a doctorate you know. Hmmmm Raff’s a practicing lawyer, that’s got to require some sort of education, same for Mike A. Elaine taught at a Boston University for a few years, I doubt they just let people teach without some sort of education. If I remember correctly Mike S has a few degrees under his belt as well. Vince (who admittedly is rarely seen these days) has worked in the past for the Congressional Research service, not exactly a light weight. Those are just the people we can easily verify.

Yup, the lack of education here is truly astounding.

  15. Buddha:

Greed is good. A greedy person does have a social conscience because she is taking care of herself and by taking care of herself she is taking care of society. The intent is to take care of her needs but the result is that society is taken care of.

Selfishness is good. What do the poor contribute to society? Not much of anything, why should they be taken care of at the expense of the greedy? What have they done to deserve a handout of someone else’s money? Taken from that someone by force to be distributed to the most unproductive among us?

You want to help the poor? Go ahead just don’t make me do it. I don’t have a social conscience (read Marxist/socialist outlook).
