Sandusky Attorney Inadvertently Sends Reporters To Gay-Sex Line

Attorney Joe Amendola, the lawyer for former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky, has been criticized for his going on television with his client for interviews that appeared to not only harden the public’s view against Sandusky and, as to Sandusky’s call in statements, could be used at trial. He has also been criticized as a controversial choice in a sex-scandal case when he was accused of impregnating a 16-year-old client (who he later married). Now, an innocent quip has landed him again in controversy when he told reporters to call 1-800-Reality, which turns out to be a real number featuring gay-sex.

After refuting prior testimony in the case, Amendola responded to skeptical lawyers by saying “I suggest you dial 1-800-REALITY.” They did.

In defense with Amendola, it was a simple and obvious quip. The odds that such an innocuous number would turn out to be a gay-sex line seems pretty remote. At $2.99 a minute, reporters found that they could enjoy “the hottest place for triple-X action.”

  1. Of all the comments Amendola has made over the past two months, his gay-sex line statement strikes me as the least consequential.

My knee-jerk reaction to both Sandusky and his attorney is the same: I was far more impressed before I heard either of them open their mouths.

Lord have mercy, what a case.

  2. I am not sure who needs the most help. This attorney or his sick client. Just by admitting to taking showers with kids is enough evidence to show this guy has a problem. Now, about the gay sex telephone number….the attorney should be a little more careful in the future. Was his wife 16 when they got married too?

  3. To further muddy the waters on this case I ran into this defense of Sandusky and criticism of The Grand Jury Presentment at OpEdNews.org.
The writer Mr. Long, listed as a retired computer programmer, is virtually “unGoogleable” which is suspicious since he writes a such a long analysis.
OpEdNews, a site I like, allows people to write posts easily and it seemed the author joined it for the sole purpose of publishing this post. Here is his analysis from his cryptic website. http://robertlong1.tripod.com/. You can google the Grand Jury Presentment if you wish, but I’m not including the link because I also want to post this second link on this case.

My feelings on this case is that it is a media circus. As to Mr. Sandusky’s guilt it is now a jury matter. I must say that from his own words in his interviews I feel he is a pedophile to some degree. “Romping” naked in a shower with a pre-teen youth, is not an appropriate activity for a man his age and to me despite whether overt sexual contact occurred, there is a strong and negative sexual connotation to even this somewhat milder behavior.

  4. I called that number, being a circumspect citizen journalist who proves in order to separate shit from shinola, only to have a virgin answer the phone with “what can I do you for“, causing me to bush blush.

  5. I don’t know why an “inadvertent” remark acknowledged to be an “innocent quip” should ever turn into a controversy, not in a society of fallible monkeys doing their best to be serious but not completely humorless.

Funny, ironic, sad, but should not be a controversy.

  6. Rich…..

Maybe they feel the need to feel….My question to the attorney…Exactly how did you come about this gay sex hotline number….and or course the obvious….

  7. At the rate this is going, Sandusky would seem to have grounds for a mistrial based on the incompetence of counsel, except it’s obvious he should have fired this guy quite awhile agao.

  8. Can we conclude that major league gaffs are not limited to the political circus, and that the common denominator in their wide stance is “the media”?

  9. Sometimes you are known for whom you associate with….Hmmmm..At least he didn’t say I have a bone to pick with you…….

  10. Sometimes an attorney makes a joke. Sometimes the attorney is the joke.

This would be really funny if the charges, consequences of conviction on the charges and impact on the alleged victims were not so serious.
