Divine Comedy? Fourth Candidate Told By God To Run Withdraws From Presidential Race

We previously discussed how God appears to be playing a divine joke on Republican candidates who publicly claimed that he caused them to run — only to go down in flames in the primary. Now Santorum has become the fourth candidate who has withdrawn despite divine instructions to run. It appears that we now know the name that God gave Robertson as the next president of the United States — at least one of two names.

Santorum often ran as if he were the avenging angel of the God Almighty. It was not surprising, therefore, that his crusade began with a thumbs up from the Big Guy:

“It really boils down to God’s will. What is it that God wants? … We have prayed a lot about this decision, and we believe with all our hearts that this is what God wants.”

Does that mean God wanted Santorum to fail?

Of course, what God giveth, God can taketh away. Consider Cain use of reverse divine instructions to his withdrawal:

“You want to know why? God said, ‘Not yet Herman,’” Cain told the crowd. “God said, ‘Not yet. I’ve got something else for you to do.’ And it might be to become the president of the United States of America.”

Of course, Santorum was looking at the ignoble prospect of losing to Romney in his home state of Pennsylvania — Santorum was previously roundly defeated in that state for reelection to the Senate.

  1. If God is all-knowing, didn’t he/she already know the outcome of the primaries and so was God lying to Santorum that he should run or is Santorum lying about his little talk with God?

  2. The National Organization for Marriage plans to throw its support to Mitt Romney today, giving the former Massachusetts governor a stamp of approval from the high-profile conservative group helping lead the fight over same-sex unions, POLITICO has learned

In a statement, NOM president Brian Brown will urge conservatives to get behind Romney: “Now is the time for all people who recognize the importance of marriage to come together to support a true champion, Mitt Romney, against an incumbent who has done virtually everything in his power to undermine the institution of marriage.”

“Governor Romney was an early signer of NOM’s presidential pledge which represents his commitment to the nation to take specific actions as president to preserve and protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” Brown’s message says .”President Obama has declared our nation’s marriage laws to be unconstitutional and not only has refused to defend them, his administration is actively working to repeal them in the courts. He’s come out against state constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. And he has appointed leaders of the same-sex ‘marriage’ movement as national co-chairs of his reelection campaign.”

  3. Well we no longer have “Elmer Gantry” but we still have “Max Headron”

“Either God changed her mind or we have further proof that conservativism is a delusional mental disorder accompanied by voices in one’s head only they can hear.”

Or that those who believe in God or politicians are delusional. One cause is enough. Two should result in committal.

  5. I think Dante would be outraged that this farce is labelled Divine Comedy.
A better name would be “Asinine Comedy”, or “The Faked Campaign”.

  6. “How can you file bankruptcy when you are already bankrupt…..” -AY

Yep, AY… (Maybe he could hawk some more of his little gavels to pay down his debt.)

  7. It must have been that same God who made the high school basketball team win LAST week — I know it was true because the coach praised Jeebus on the TV interview afterwards — but cursed them the next week and made them lose. That God, always changing his/her/its/their mind(s). Such a kidder!

  8. AN,

Did you see where newts “Think Tank” filed bankruptcy….. Just thinking….. How can you file bankruptcy when you are already bankrupt…..

  9. Either God changed her mind or we have further proof that conservativism is a delusional mental disorder accompanied by voices in one’s head only they can hear.

  10. And yet they are never questioned by the press when they make these ridiculous statements. They should be questioned. And mocked! Why is religion off limits?

“Really, Senator? God talked to you? What were his exact words? What did his voice sound like? How often do you hear from God? Is he talking to you now?”

  11. You know, I was taught that the litmus test in the prohibition against sorcery by the accuracy of the would-be-prophet’s predictions. It’s funny how these Bible literalists never seem to get around to reading about what the reward for issuing false prophicies is.

On the other hand, look at what happened to Job. A failed Presidential run is small potatos when it comes to how faith is rewarded.

  12. Mespo,

Ain’t there something about politicians being created in God’s image…..I think it’s like the 4th thing in the 1st book of the bible…..

  13. Did the yesterday’s decision come after God said: “Oops! My bad!

  14. Someone really should ask these clowns
Why did God ask you to run?
Why did God ask those others to run also?
Why do you think God didn’t let you win?

  15. At least he does not transport dogs on the top of his car. Nevertheless, no dog would advocate this guy for top dog and y’ll know what dog spelled backwards is. There is only one candidate with four paws up in my dog pack and he has a dog himself who receives good attention from his pal.
