Meet Keith Judd: The Man Who Almost Beat Obama In West Virginia

President Obama faced his toughest competitor in West Virginia this week and barely came out ahead. Mitt Romney? Guess again. Keith Judd won 10 counties in West Virginia and 41 percent of the vote against Obama. He was not on hand, however, for interviews because Judd is Federal Inmate No. 11593-051 and was sitting in his prison cell for the duration of the campaign.

Judd was not even in the state. He is currently housed at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana serving a 210-month sentence for extortion. Judd is serving 17 years for extortion after being sentenced in 1999 for making threats against the University of New Mexico. If successful, he would have to serve until June 24, 2013 as president while serving as a federal inmate. However, he could give himself a presidential pardon, which might be a practical necessity since it could be dangerous not to be able to reach the Commander and Chief during a lockdown or prison movie.

Judd is now qualified to have a delegate at the Democratic National Convention, because he won at least 15 percent of vote.

Notably, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia wouldn’t say whom he voted for in the primary. He just might want to put in for that Judd delegate position.

West Virginia’s Democratic governor, Earl Ray Tomblin, has also not revealed his vote.

In fairness to Obama, Judd is an experienced presidential candidate. In the 2008 Idaho Democratic primary, he finished third behind Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton with 1.7 percent of the vote, per The Charleston Gazette.

In all seriousness, the situation in West Virginia does not look good for Obama with many Democratic voters casting their lot with Judd. It was obviously a protest vote but even major Democratic leaders are expressly uncertainty over whether to support Obama.

With such an impressive primary behind him, I think we should help Judd with a campaign slogan. Here are my suggestion:

Experience Counts In Politics: Elect A Felon.

It has the best appeal since Bin Jule declared in Guys and Dolls: “I’ve gone straight, as has been proved by my record: Thirty-three arrests and no convictions!”

  1. Republican Party porker … Democratic Party porker … both dead.

And we all know what happens next

  2. Blouise,

How about the Alaska Senator who insisted on millions of dollars for a bridge to nowhere? He’s also dead.

  3. Blouise,

Senator Byrd used to say “we have a chute that will dump you out into the Potomac.” He’s dead.

  4. I did not know that Mitt Romney ran in the Democratic Primary in West Virginia? He will presumably be on the ballot in the General Election in November as a RepubliCon running against the Democrat Barak Obama.
The inmate will be a write-in and will come in second to Obama. We dont cotton to no fake blue jean capitalists from Bain Capital down here.

  5. Matt Johnson,

So much said with those 4 words.

Byrd served as W Va Congressman and Senator for 57 years. His seniority on the senate’s Appropriations Committee where he took the chairmanship in 1989, enabled W Va, one of the poorest states in the Union, to secure a total of $1 billion for public works by 1991. Funds for highways, dams, educational institutions and federal agency offices flowed unabated over the course of his membership. More than 30 existing or pending federal projects bear his name. He commented on his reputation for attaining funds for projects in West Virginia in August 2006, when he called himself “Big Daddy”.

  6. Raff,

It is my understanding you do not have to be a resident of a state in order to appear on a states primary ballot……I may be wrong……

  7. I want to see Judd’s birth certificate and his drivers license. If he is in prison out of state, isn’t he ineligble to run in West Virginia? How did the Republicans allow this felon to run for office in West Virginia when he is a resident of Texarcana? Quick, call Fox News. They finally found their man.

  8. Blouise, Thank you. Obama’s statement on gay marriage is going to rile these crazies up further.

  9. SwM,

Don’t know if you saw this newsletter, March of this year, from The Greene County, Virginia Republican Committee

“We have before us a challenge to remove an ideologue unlike anything world history has ever witnessed or recognized,” editor Ponch McPhee wrote. “An elected leader who shuns biblical praise, handicaps economic ability, disrespects the honor of earned military might.”
The ultimate task for the people is to remain vigilant and aware ~ that the government, their government is out of control, and this moment, this opportunity, must not be forsaken, must not escape us, for we shall not have any coarse [sic] but armed revolution should we fail with the power of the vote in November ~ This Republic cannot survive for 4 more years underneath this political socialist ideologue.”

Okay, the editor may be spelling challenged but one wonders if Greene County Virginians remember the last “armed revolution” they tried and how well it worked out for them.

  10. I guess WVA voters is upset with President Obama because there has been no significant increases in the millions of dollars pumped into the state by the Feds for disability, social security and medicare payments…if the
federal government didn’t subsides WV, it would cease to exists….

  11. I did my mess duty in Officer’s Country. They like their popcorn just so during the movies.

  12. they are pissed about the reduction in coal production proposed or enacted.

People are upset about what has been happening.

I predict Obama is going to lucky to break 42% in November.

  13. W. Virginia, not enough federal dollars pouring in lately? I hope it’s nothing more sinister than that.
