Better Red Than Undead? Obama Ad Calls Romney a “Vampire”

We have been discussing how mean=spirited and nasty the presidential campaign has already become on both sides. With Republicans called Obama a socialist and a Muslim, Democrats are saying Romney would not have killed Bin Laden . . . and now that he is vampiric.

The new ad, “Steel” describes GS Technologies, a steel mill in Kansas City, Mo., that was bought by Romney’s private equity firm Bain Capital. One former mill worker says “We view Mitt Romney as a job destroyer, a vampire. They came in and sucked the life out of us.” “Mitt the Job Destroyer” is still better than “Vlad the Impaler” but they seem to be saying that he is both.

The question is how strong the anti-vampire vote is. After all, Obama is no Buffy The Vampire Slayer himself, but then again who is?

Before the Republicans denounce the ad, they should consider that there could be some positive aspects to an undead president for the GOP:

1. They work nights.

2. They truly can take the bite out of crime.

3. They are always taking the pulse of voters.

5. One meeting of the Group of Eight would leave a group of one.

6. The GOP would finally secure the Goth vote.

7. We would finally have a president who is all bite and no bark.

8. Republicans can re-use those “Drill, Baby, Drill” signs.

9. No one is more anti-evolution than a vampire.

10. Perfect for the slogan, “Better Undead than Red.”

    “Bron,
Thanks again for your fact free opinion.”

That is what an opinion is, fact free. But if you like I can get statistics which show the economy is only hanging on by a thin thread.

The President doesnt know diddly about economics and neither do his advisers. Their model is Karl and Keynes and that doesnt wash.

It is funny how Puerto Rico is having a very good recovery from the same crap that put us in the outhouse. You know how they did it? They cut government spending and they lowered taxes.

I only just heard about it on Stossel last night. Gee I wonder why?

Commieism doesnt work and neither does socialism nor fascism and one day maybe liberals who are honest will admit it and give up and start really helping people by helping set the table for job creation instead of fighting people who are smart enough and competent enough to be net job creators.

Capitalism is the greatest wealth creating engine in human history and there is only one way out of poverty and that is by having a good job which pays for itself and allows the capitalist to put some money aside for future job creation. And that is not opinion, that is fact.

  2. Tony,

Only limited socialism will work, for the same reason, the only good candidates for socialism are things that benefit everybody whether they admit it or not; like infrastructure, national defense, law enforcement, education, food and drug inspection, building inspections, health care and a few other things like that.

What you just said is the only thing the federal government is supposed to exist for. But who has the most to protect, and the most vested interest, with regard to what you just mentioned? In other words, who has the most to loose if all the government services disappear? So who should pay for that?

  3. @Dredd: The people have never risen up to take over these factories that Romney-Bain capitalists have practiced. Why?

We are too big. Marx is talking about armed revolution, who among us are willing to DIE over this issue? Which is what Marx is calling for, going up against the police, the FBI, and ultimately (I am sure despite laws against it) the militarized United States.

Marx was wrong, communism will not work, it fails to solve the free rider problem. Only limited socialism will work, for the same reason, the only good candidates for socialism are things that benefit everybody whether they admit it or not; like infrastructure, national defense, law enforcement, education, food and drug inspection, building inspections, health care and a few other things like that.

For anything else, meaning anything not essentially universally needed or things people can live just fine without, capitalistic competition is really the best method of production.

  4. Romney is more like Pinocchio than a vampire–except his nose doesn’t grow longer every time he tells a lie. If it did, it could wrap around the Earth three times.

  5. Gene H:

I dont need to make anything up.

I am not a fan of Romney but I dont think he deserves to be called a Vampire.

As a successful friend of mine says “if everyone likes you, you are doing something wrong.” If Romney was liked by everyone he wouldnt be where he is today.

  6. “Focused in on ‘I want’ instead of ‘we need.'”

And therein lies the problem of consumerism.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people cannot differentiate between want and need until I think about how they are programmed to behave that way by approximately 20 minutes out of every hour of television they watch.

  7. SwM,

Squids aren’t capable of being vampires. They’re much more efficient.

  8. Why?

Mesmerized. In thrall. Schooled for 18 years in submissiveness. Distracted by mind-numbing blather. Focused in on “I want” instead of “we need.” Misogynist.

  9. Karl Marx predicted the evolution of American capitalism on its way to a plutocracy, with incredible precision, decades before it actually came to fruition:

Marx argued that at capitalism would succeed in its initial stages quite well in promoting growth by means of capital investment in new technology and improved means of production. Everyone would prosper. As capitalism developed, however, he argued that capitalists would appropriate to themselves more and more of the profits or income from the economy and that laborers would come to have increasingly less.

Over time, in time and such circumstances, Marx claimed that, first, capitalistic economies would undergo ever more vicious cyclical swings from boom to bust. These cycles and the on-going process of capitalism would, second, result in ever richer capitalists and ever poorer working classes

(The Impact of Toxins of Power On Evolution, bold in original). Nevertheless, he had a flattering, yet inflated expectation from the American public, because he also predicted that the “precariat” would wise up, then rise up:

until, finally, at some point, laborers would revolt and take over the means of production, causing Socialism to ensue as a result. Socialism, in turn, was merely a transitional step to Communism.

(ibid). The people have never risen up to take over these factories that Romney-Bain capitalists have practiced.

    Why?

  10. I’ve found Tony to be many things, but a fascist and/or a totalitarian isn’t one of them. You, Bron, on the other hand, do precisely have the reputation of making shit up to fit your arguments up to and including cherry picking data and making up your own definitions to words when it suits you. Speaking of which, you’ve demonstrated time and again you don’t know what the word fascism means as you march lockstep in defending corporatism like your Objectivist/Austrian brethren. Mitt Romney is the kind of person and Bain Capital is the kind of company that makes people hate capitalism, slick. If you weren’t so in love with money, you’d realize no amount of spin is going to make him look like a good guy or Bain like a good company because quite simply neither are good. They represent the destructive and predatory face of capitalism and they didn’t make the bulk of their money by creating anything other than large paydays for themselves based upon destroying the work of others. If you love capitalism so much? You should realize that guys like Romney and companies like Bain are some of the worst PR you could possibly have. Don’t believe me? Here’s the opinion of someone who had business dealings with Bain under Romney rule. Making money doesn’t make you a hero, but especially when your way of making money is unethical and parasitic. You don’t like Obama. So what? I think he’s a liar and a traitor to his oath, his office and his duty to “We the People”. I wouldn’t vote for him under any circumstances. However, if you want to hold up Romney as a good guy or Bain as a template for good business? I’m going to have to join the chorus calling bullshit on that, Bron. I wouldn’t let Romney be in charge of anything where he could impact the lives of others. He, like many politicians and all “vulture capitalists”, is a sociopath. They both are, but just because one was more profitable in private life doesn’t make him the better man. They both suck.

  11. @Swarthmore: I am no fan of Perry, but it does look like in this case he just turned to the truth to attack Romney.

  12. @Bron: I am neither a fascist or a totalitarian, as you well know after long exchanges, which makes you a liar that will just make up anything. As I said.

  13. Tony C:

and you are a facist/totalitarian tool who wouldnt know the truth if it bit you in your ass.

If you dont like what I wrote, take it up with reuters.

  14. “They’re just vultures,” Mr. Perry said. “They’re vultures that are sitting out there on the tree limb waiting for the company to get sick, and then they swoop in, they eat the carcass, they leave with that, and they leave the skeleton.”

He also said that “ethics kind of get thrown out the door, and it’s all too often just about, `How can we make as much money as we can make in a hurry,’ and walk away from the rubble that’s left and let these small towns like Georgetown and Gaffney, S.C., have to deal with it.”

After his appearance, Mr. Perry told reporters that he was specifically referring to Bain when he was describing “vultures. New York Times blog
