These two men are accused in a truly bizarre plot to kill and castrate teen pop star Justin Bieber. 41-year-old Mark Staake, 41, (left) and his nephew Tanner Ruane, 23, (right) hatched the plan with another man who was a prison inmate with Staake. The plot reportedly involved killing four people in total and castrating them, according to New Mexico police.
The plot even allegedly include strangling them with a “paisley tie” which only reaffirms how out of touch these individuals are since paisley ties have been out of style for years.
Inmate Dana Martin, 45, became involved in the plot after being transferred to the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility from Florida. Martin was serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl and was so obsessed with Bieber that he had a tattoo of the singer on his leg. Staake noticed the tattoo and somehow the conversation allegedly moved from his love for Bieber to “why don’t we castrate and kill him.”
It was Martin who is charged with recruiting Staake. The plot even allegedly specified that Fiskars “Durasharp” brand garden clippers would be used for the castration and that there was a bounty of $2,500 on each testicle.
The plot allegedly involved two murders in Vermont and two in New York. However, the two would-be killers missed their exit on the highway and stopped at the border crossing where a U.S. border agent arrested Staake on an outstanding New Mexico warrant. Ruane was then recorded in prison calls to Martin discussing the arrest and how he proceeded to New York with him to put down the “dogs” and go “snip, snip.”
Martin then went to police and ratted on Ruane, who was arrested. It is interesting that it was Martin who allegedly recruited the others and then ratted on them. It is not clear if he realized that the telephone calls were recorded and that plot was now known to police. In any case, it is doubtful that Staake or Martin will ever see freedom. The question will be the length of the sentence of Ruane if found guilty. He did reportedly take steps to carry out the plot and a maximum sentence is likely to be sought.
All three are charged with several counts of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery.

Oh, yes, the paisley tie. I love paisley. Almost finished a paisley quilt top where I made kaleidoscopes of the terrific pattern. Over a dozen kaleidoscopes, all different, from one pattern.
Must have Bieber. Must have Bieber. Huzzahhhhh.
(This is the “correction” part of the DOC’s)
After having listened to one of Bieber’s ‘songs’, I must say that I thought he had already been castrated.
Look Justin Bieber is fairly decent, though not my cup of musical tea. Bettykath is right that we fogies can’t really judge those that appeal to our youth. Last night my wife and I watched the almost 6 hour 121212 Concert for the relief of those devastated by Sandy. We were enthralled, but then again Bruce Springsteen, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel etc. were musical idols of mine. They were looked at in their time as being far out. Also there was Bon Jovi, who was one of my older daughters favorites, as she hit her pre-teens. At the time I thought him preposterous, but now I love his music. Also on the bill was Kanye West, who I frankly don’t get and can’t understand his lyrics. By the end of his set though, I realized I had enjoyed its sound.
As I’ve aged I’ve come to realize that my reaction to certain music reflected my rejecting some out of hand and not allowing myself to listen to it. Music is an expression of art that stirs both emotion and self reflection via its relationship to our ow experiences. Growing up a fan of the nascent Rock and Roll I first rejected my parents musical tastes. As time went on I began to appreciate Sinatra, Bennet, The Big Band Era and particularly Jazz. When I watched the Ken Burns PBS series Jazz, my appreciation of the music grew, when it added to an intellectual understanding of its role in musical history. Louis Armstrong may well have been the greatest musical figure of the 20th Century. Prior to that as I reached my late twenties I began to appreciate music for its emotional effect on me, rather than adhere solely to the preferences of my generation and its musical critics. Today I love all music that moves me emotionally, whether Bluegrass, Opera or Musical Theater. My only regret is there is so much to listen to and so little time to listen.
Leave “The Biebs” alone.
E.Broadway, Bieber doesn’t have to be a star, a real star, a deserving star, or any other particular kind of person for it to be a crime to either plan or execute this kind of atrocity against him. The case is of course interesting in various ways unrelated to vintage neckwear styles, but the real issue here is that there are enough psycho’s running around basing their manhood claims on imagined or executed damage to other people that we should really begin to wonder WTF is wrong with our culture.
I’ve never seen Bieber and vaguely had an idea that he was a pop singer or something. Yet if anyone plotted to castrate, kill or otherwise gratuitously harm my son I’d be very exercised about it.
Furthermore, violence by paisley should never be done to any individual who is not a judge, and even judges should only be subjected to violence by paisley if honest stripes are unavailable.
And what bettykath said.
One other point about these teen idols, adults rarely appreciate them, at least adults don’t appreciate them until the almost teens grow up.
You old fogies (she said affectionately). Every generation of barely or almost teens, especially girls, has an entertainment idol that only has to get their newly generated hormones excited to turn them into a screaming frenzy. A new idol every 4-6 years. They come and go. The good ones, Elvis, the Beatles make solid names for themselves b/c they have the talent, or they are able to keep the hormones of their fans pumping. Others, well, who were they?
Seems a bit excessive.
I just saw Justtin Bieber, on TV, for the very first time in my life, a few days ago. I don’t know what all the fuss is about. This effeminant boy is a joke…. He can’t sing, and, as he was dancing around on a stage…I thought to myself…. sorry, he can’t dance, he looks like a robot. But kill and castrate him???? Nah, I don’t think so, I’d rather just ignore him till he goes away
Eric,
“People will start migrating, seeking countries where wheat and barley form the staple food source.”
OH, THE HUMANITY!
My family has explicit instructions, upon pain of being dis-inherited, that the inscription on my headstone is to read, “HE NEVER WORE PAISLEY”
Looking at the world lately, it is very hard to understand how & why people are behaving like they do. Many Hindus believe we are currently in the Kali Yuga, the last of 4 Yugas (eras) where human civilization degrades spiritually. Below is a description from the very old “Mahabharata”. Kinda sounds like today, doesn’t it?
Attributes of Kali Yuga:
In relation to rulers:
– Rulers will become unreasonable: they will levy taxes unfairly.
– Rulers will no longer see it as their duty to promote spirituality, or to protect their subjects: they will become a danger to the world.
– People will start migrating, seeking countries where wheat and barley form the staple food source.
In human relationships:
– Avarice and wrath will be common. Humans will openly display animosity towards each other. Ignorance of dharma will occur.
– People will have thoughts of murder with no justification and will see nothing wrong in that.
– Lust will be viewed as socially acceptable and sexual intercourse will be seen as the central requirement of life.
– Sin will increase exponentially, whilst virtue will fade and cease to flourish.
– People will take vows and break them soon after.
– People will become addicted to intoxicating drinks and drugs.
– Gurus will no longer be respected and their students will attempt to injure them. Their teachings will be insulted, and followers of Kama will wrest control of the mind from all human beings. The maximum lifespan of a human in this age is 90-100 years.
– Brahmans will not be learned or honored, Kshatriya’s will not be brave, Vaishyas will not be just in their dealings
the Biebs needs to be castrated?

The print of princes (and Prince) is making a comeback.
Paisley, the motif made famous by maharajas, The Beatles, that man from Minneapolis and Azerbaijan’s Winter Olympic team (who made their mark on the 2010 games by wearing super-bright paisley trousers) is back in favour this season.
Though it may seem like a tricky pattern to work into your wardrobe, we suggest an entry-level option is a bold paisley tie. With strong offerings from Brioni, Asos and, naturally, Etro (who’ve been using the pattern for decades), our advice is to keep the rest of your outfit simple: a grey cashmere blazer, button-down white shirt and a pair of indigo jeans.
1. Brioni, £150
2. Polo Ralph Lauren, £95
3. Asos, £10
4. William & George £69
5. Etro, £105
