Just When You Thought Congress Could Not Get More Bizarre . . .

628x471For many of us, Congress has become a circus like environment with two parties exercising a duopoly of power despite record levels of contempt from voters for their conduct and policies. For sane people, Congress simply could not get more bizarre. Think again. At the height of the vote to end the government shutdown, Dianne Reidy, an official reporter with the Office of the Clerk, took the mike and began to condemn Congress (starting out well) and then rave against Freemasons (ending not so well). The most troubling thing about the scene? For many voters, she still seemed the most sane and honest person in the chamber.

Reidy calmly took the rostrum and began shouting “the House is divided . . . He will not be mocked . . . This is not one nation under God. It never was. . . The greatest deception here is this is not one nation under god! It never was. Had it been, it would not have been! The Constitution would not have been written by Freemasons!”

Members immediately demanded that she be withdrawn. Only 435 unhinged individuals are allowed to scream uncontrollably in the chamber so Rep. Ileana Ros Lehtinen, R-Fla. ordered her removed. Besides any of the members could easily show that this was nearly the “greatest deception” in Congress.

Here it is with better audio:

  1. Please find my post in the filter … it ends with:

    Thank you

  2. Shutdown? Not For Political Fundraising

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2013/10/03/228869250/shutdown-not-for-political-fundraising

Google political fund raising during shutdown for more detailed articles on individual politicians who made a ton of money for their up coming races … Ted Cruz filled his coffers to the tune of $797,000 and his supporting organization, Heritage Action, collected $330,000. You can find democrats who did the same.

Meanwhile, many cattlemen in South Dakota, thanks to the untimely and devastating blizzard, will lose millions and some will lose their ranches because the shutdown and rigamarole over SNAP/Farm Bill that has tied federal helping hands. That is just one example of how the shutdown has ruined the lives of regular folk.

  3. It is this kind of fraying about the edges that actually somehow spills over into the public eye, and gets past the normal censoring process that often shows the machinations and turmoil that is occurring behind closed doors.

It is a systemic symptom that often happens when everyone is too busy with catastrophic and chaotic internal events, things that are too dirty to air in public. With so much going on, and a sense of doom or upheaval, things that do not ever see the light of day begin to by happenstance, under these circumstances, do.

So, something seemingly insignificant, like a reporting clerk losing it on the floor, actually speaks to many things that are usually sanitized before reaching the public.

  4. “For sane people, Congress simply could not get more bizarre.”

Well, that’s fine for the privileged elite, who happen to be sane.

How about the vast majority of the U.S.A., whom sanity has left behind?
Who don’t live in luxurious sanity.

The sanity-challenged, who elected Congress, in the first place.
Those citizens who are well-represented by Congress.

  5. Part of what happens next (at least next election) will be on the head of SCOTUS if they extend Citizens united when rule on McCutcheon

  6. Having to sit for days recording the nonsense spewing from the likes of Senator Cruz and fellow tea party members is enough to push anyone over the edge.

  7. While we laugh at the mockery of this Congress the problems continue to grow. The state of our Nation can only be rivaled by the downfall of the Roman Empire, but this would not be the first time that the USA has been likened to Rome. I still can’t get over Ted Cruz making a mockery of the system and he is from my state! I am sad for Texas because of Cruz and Perry and I used to support Perry totally and completely. He fixed that himself.

I keep trying to work around the ruling class that has maintained their control of our political system, but the only way to fix the system is to vote them out of office. Sadly though, the reality is that not enough people vote in elections to remove these people from office. The same jaded citizens vote, so the same people remain in place. This is not democratic. I could go on and on, but the woman in the chamber last night isn’t any crazier than anyone else in the room, she just happened to be the loudest one at the mic.

Can’t wait to see what happens next…

  8. The most amazing display of a lack of intellect that i have ever witnessed with one exception. The public sector.
Our citizenry is so ill informed and so brainwashed by their political and spiritual leaders that i am amazed that they have the ability to go to the toilet without a ”may I”.

  9. Strange days and then some, because she has come undone like the hurricane Sarah Palin can see from her house in Alaska:

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Acknowledging that the government shutdown was coming to an end, an emotional Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) took to the Senate floor today to make an impassioned speech, telling his colleagues, “The dream of keeping poor people from seeing a doctor must never die.”

His eyes welling up with tears, Sen. Cruz said, “I embarked on this crusade with a simple goal: to keep affordable health care out of the reach of ordinary, hard-working Americans. And while this battle was lost, that dream—that precious, cherished dream—will live on.”

Reflecting on the government shutdown and near-default that almost touched off a global financial apocalypse, Sen. Cruz said, “We’ll give it another try in a few weeks.”

Sen. Cruz’s closest ally, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) also spoke reverently of the shutdown, calling it “the most expensive Civil War reënactment in history.”

“Unfortunately, once again, the wrong side won,” he said.

Over in the House of Representatives, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) congratulated his colleagues on the deal to resolve the shutdown, telling reporters, “This proves that when we work together, we can come up with a totally unsatisfactory solution to a completely unnecessary crisis.”

But the last word belonged to Sen. Cruz, who ended his emotional speech with a quiet benediction: “Goodnight stars. Goodnight air. Goodnight noises everywhere.”
