Now This Is A Snow Day Announcement

thumb_news902414_755604logoWe are snowed in today in McLean, Va. (I had to dig a path out into the backyard for Luna who then proceeded to leap through the foot of snow like a reindeer). While I often make fun of the snowphobics in Northern Virginia, this was a walloping. However, Durham Academy Head of School Michael Ulku-Steiner and Assistant Head of School/Upper School Director Lee Hark get the prize for the coolest weather announcement below.

In comparison, this is the Fairfax announcement: “All Fairfax County public schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 13.” Clearly, Virginia school officials have work to do.

  1. Husband, former teacher, believes the child culture has taken over education. This may be a clue.

  2. mpcremata, Tough going on the golf course I see. 😉 I’ve been to San Diego (La Jolla) many times and it is a beautiful part of the State and country.

Hey, it’s in the 30s now in our part of Montana and I was able to put away my jacket, gloves, hat and wore a short sleeve shirt today.

  3. “It’s not just the snow but the thick layers of ice embedded withing the snow that makes snow removal so hard…..that and -20 degree days with wind chills in the -40 range.”

The weather’s been pretty rough here in San Diego too. I actually worked up a bit of a sweat on the golf course today…

  4. I question you use of ‘cool’. I doubt any of their students will even recognize the song.

  5. Esp. as a Durhamite, I love the Durham Academy “No School Day” on your blog. Where did he get the Olympic Sweater? Suzanne

  6. Our poor Basset Hound has a rough time in the snow here in Montana. His….well for lack of a better name….”package” drags in the snow and he doesn’t like it. Can’t say I blame the poor guy. I do my best shoveling paths through the snow but we’ve had such a bad winter that right now I cannot get our car in the garage and cannot get the snow blower out of the garage. Mostly poor planning on my part.

It’s not just the snow but the thick layers of ice embedded withing the snow that makes snow removal so hard…..that and -20 degree days with wind chills in the -40 range.

  7. The school may lose those guys when some entertainment agent offers them a contract.

  8. What a hoot! We all need a good laugh these days; oh, joy, just to see the instructive child emerge from professional men! Play to learn & all be safe!

  9. In my district we get a “robocall”. On one radio station the district is assigned a number and you listen for the school’s number during closing announcements. A bit boring compared to this one.
