Missouri Professor and Administrator Captured on Tape Leading Attacks On Journalists Trying To Cover Protests

Screen-Shot-2015-11-10-at-6.41.56-PM-620x375The controversy surrounding the resigned of University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe this week. Critics continue to debate whether Wolfe acted in a way that warranted demands for his removal while others view racial incidents on campus as the fault of the Administration. This is a worthy debate for any university. However, a recent incident should raise equally determined calls for the removal of school officials who appear to have led attacks on the media and free speech as part of student protests. Mass communications professor Melissa Click has since apologized for disgraceful conduct in attacking the media — a curious act by a mass communications professor and the antithesis of an academic committed to free speech.

A confrontation occurred as journalists, including students journalists, simply tried to cover the event. They were set upon by protesters threatening them and telling them to leave. Tim Tai, 20, is a senior at the university working on a freelance assignment for ESPN, went to the protesters’ tent encampment. Protesters insisted that he had no right to cover the event and chanted “Hey hey! Ho ho! Reporters have got to go!”

One school administrator, identified as Janna Basler, the school’s director of Greek life and leadership, is seen on the video confronting Tai. When he asks her name, Basler refused to identify herself — a problem for a school official on campus harassing a journalist. Instead, she say “I am Concerned Student 1950,” a reference to the name of the African-American group leading the protests.

Near the end of the video, another adult, identified as assistant professor of mass media Melissa Click, tells another reporter, “You need to get out.” She appears to call on other protesters to help force out the journalist. She is heard saying “Who wants to help me get this reporter out of here? I need some muscle over here.”

That is a disgrace and should have immediately raised calls for the review of both of these employees for discipline. What they were doing was joining voices of intolerance and abuse. They are the very antithesis of the mission of all academics.

Click has now apologized, stating “I regret the language and strategies I used, and sincerely apologize to the MU campus community, and journalists at large, for my behavior, and also for the way my actions have shifted attention away from the students’ campaign for justice.”

There is no word about Basler. The concern is the double standard at our universities. We have discussed that controversy at the University of California and Boston University, where there have been criticism of a double standard, even in the face of criminal conduct. Here you have a communications professor and an administrator seem encouraging protesters in denying a student the ability to work as a journalist on campus. Yet, there is no outcry and demands for review, let alone termination. There is a serious diminishment of free speech occurring on our campuses where a new orthodoxy is rising in the enforcement of preferred speech and positions. The intolerance shown opposing views threatens the very essence of our intellectual traditions and values. The video below vividly shows that trend.

Not that those pesky things called facts will ever get in your way, but, for your information, according to vocabulary.com, a castigation is “a harsh, verbal reprimand” as the word actually comes from the Latin term “castigus” which means to “make pure.” I guess that English is not your forte. Trust me, that was a very tempered response, on my part, to an irresponsible and unabashed affront to the lives lost to savagery and barbarity.

Trying to deflect from claiming that the Paris massacre is a ruse? Didn’t work, Hilde, as I dare you to tell the families who lost loved ones that their children, spouses, siblings, etc., were only part of some play acting.

    1. Speaking of deflecting, you didn’t answer my question about George Soros or about whether you actually watched the video. Nothing to fear if it’s just b.s., right. No worries if you can’t watch it for whatever reason.

About Nick’s Elvis comment. That was odd coming from someone who treated me with respect when we agreed but turns on me when I don’t. And AGAIN, I’m not insulted and I don’t take it personally. I read The Four Agreements 14 times in a row in order to GET that I shouldn’t take things personally not that I never do.

Also I have no reason to deflect from claiming that the Paris massacre is a ruse. Don’t take it personally!

  2. bam bam
“Castigation (from the Latin castigatio) or chastisement (via the French châtiment) is the infliction of severe (moral or corporal) punishment. One who administers a castigation is a castigator or chastiser.”

That sounds pretty serious. Are you aware that George Soros funds many of these seemingly ‘organic’ social movements?

“George Soros funds Ferguson protests, hopes to spur civil action. Liberal billionaire gave at least $33 million in one year to groups that emboldened activists.”
    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jan/14/george-soros-funds-ferguson-protests-hopes-to-spur/

  3. Anyone who advances the notion that the tragic deaths reported in Paris were nothing but a ruse deserves to be castigated.

Often the truth is insulting. Some self-examination is in order. Heed it and seek help.

As I write, Paris is under curfew for the first time since the German occupation, and the death toll from the multiple attacks stands at 158, the vast majority of them slaughtered during a concert at the Bataclan theatre, a delightful bit of 19th century Chinoiserie on the boulevard Voltaire. The last time I was there, if memory serves, was to see Julie Pietri. I’m so bloody sick of these savages shooting and bombing and killing and blowing up everything I like – whether it’s the small Quebec town where my little girl’s favorite fondue restaurant is or my favorite hotel in Amman or the brave freespeecher who hosted me in Copenhagen …or a music hall where I liked to go to hear a little jazz and pop and get away from the cares of the world for a couple of hours. But look at the photographs from Paris: there’s nowhere to get away from it; the barbarians who yell “Allahu Akbar!” are there waiting for you …when you go to a soccer match, you go to a concert, you go for a drink on a Friday night. They’re there on the train… at the magazine office… in the Kosher supermarket… at the museum in Brussels… outside the barracks in Woolwich…
Twenty-four hours ago, I said on the radio apropos the latest campus “safe space” nonsense:

This is what we’re going to be talking about when the mullahs nuke us.

Almost. When the Allahu Akbar boys opened fire, Paris was talking about the climate-change conference due to start later this month, when the world’s leaders will fly in to “solve” a “problem” that doesn’t exist rather than to address the one that does. But don’t worry: we already have a hashtag (#PrayForParis) and doubtless there’ll be another candlelight vigil of weepy tilty-headed wankers. Because as long as we all advertise how sad and sorrowful we are, who needs to do anything?
With his usual killer comedy timing, the “leader of the free world” told George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning, America” this very morning that he’d “contained” ISIS and that they’re not “gaining strength”. A few hours later, a cell whose members claim to have been recruited by ISIS slaughtered over 150 people in the heart of Paris and succeeded in getting two suicide bombers and a third bomb to within a few yards of the French president.
Visiting the Bataclan, M Hollande declared that “nous allons mener le combat, il sera impitoyable”: We are going to wage a war that will be pitiless.
Does he mean it? Or is he just killing time until Obama and Cameron and Merkel and Justin Trudeau and Malcolm Turnbull fly in and they can all get back to talking about sea levels in the Maldives in the 22nd century? By which time France and Germany and Belgium and Austria and the Netherlands will have been long washed away.
Among his other coy evasions, President Obama described tonight’s events as “an attack not just on Paris, it’s an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values we share”.
But that’s not true, is it? He’s right that it’s an attack not just on Paris or France. What it is is an attack on the west, on the civilization that built the modern world – an attack on one portion of “humanity” by those who claim to speak for another portion of “humanity”. And these are not “universal values” but values that spring from a relatively narrow segment of humanity. They were kinda sorta “universal” when the great powers were willing to enforce them around the world and the colonial subjects of ramshackle backwaters such as Aden, Sudan and the North-West Frontier Province were at least obliged to pay lip service to them. But the European empires retreated from the world, and those “universal values” are utterly alien to large parts of the map today.
And then Europe decided to invite millions of Muslims to settle in their countries. Most of those people don’t want to participate actively in bringing about the death of diners and concertgoers and soccer fans, but at a certain level most of them either wish or are indifferent to the death of the societies in which they live – modern, pluralist, western societies and those “universal values” of which Barack Obama bleats. So, if you are either an active ISIS recruit or just a guy who’s been fired up by social media, you have a very large comfort zone in which to swim, and which the authorities find almost impossible to penetrate.
And all Chancellor Merkel and the EU want to do is make that large comfort zone even larger by letting millions more “Syrian” “refugees” walk into the Continent and settle wherever they want. As I wrote after the Copenhagen attacks in February:

I would like to ask Mr Cameron and Miss Thorning-Schmidt what’s their happy ending here? What’s their roadmap for fewer “acts of violence” in the years ahead? Or are they riding on a wing and a prayer that they can manage the situation and hold it down to what cynical British civil servants used to call during the Irish “Troubles” “an acceptable level of violence”? In Pakistan and Nigeria, the citizenry are expected to live with the reality that every so often Boko Haram will kick open the door of the schoolhouse and kidnap your daughters for sex-slavery or the Taliban will gun down your kids and behead their teacher in front of the class. And it’s all entirely “random”, as President Obama would say, so you just have to put up with it once in a while, and it’s tough if it’s your kid, but that’s just the way it is. If we’re being honest here, isn’t that all Mr Cameron and Miss Thorning-Schmidt are offering their citizens? Spasms of violence as a routine feature of life, but don’t worry, we’ll do our best to contain it – and you can help mitigate it by not going to “controversial” art events, or synagogues, or gay bars, or…or soccer matches, or concerts, or restaurants…
To repeat what I said a few days ago, I’m Islamed out. I’m tired of Islam 24/7, at Colorado colleges, Marseilles synagogues, Sydney coffee shops, day after day after day. The west cannot win this thing with a schizophrenic strategy of targeting things and people but not targeting the ideology, of intervening ineffectually overseas and not intervening at all when it comes to the remorseless Islamization and self-segregation of large segments of their own countries.
So I say again: What’s the happy ending here? Because if M Hollande isn’t prepared to end mass Muslim immigration to France and Europe, then his “pitiless war” isn’t serious. And, if they’re still willing to tolerate Mutti Merkel’s mad plan to reverse Germany’s demographic death spiral through fast-track Islamization, then Europeans aren’t serious. In the end, the decadence of Merkel, Hollande, Cameron and the rest of the fin de civilisation western leadership will cost you your world and everything you love.
    So screw the candlelight vigil.

  5. As expected, right on cue, the wacko, brain-damaged nut jobs are out and about, trying to convince us that the Paris massacre was a hoax–admonishing us that the victims were nothing but a bunch of actors. I was wondering how long it would take for these conspiracy-theory morons and societal rejects to surface and spew some crazy garbage; obviously, it didn’t take long at all. I would say that these lunatics should be ashamed of themselves, for espousing such bat-s#*t-crazy-Illuminati stuff, but I’ve come to the conclusion that people like Hildegard have no shame. Frightening, troubling, pathetic and puzzling–all at the same time–and an affront to the poor souls who lost their lives for nothing.

    1. Methinks you protest too much. Why all the vitriol, the venom, the hate? I’ve been civil in expressing my opinions. Isn’t this what we’re talking about here? Let’s see I’ve been called “wacko, brain-damaged nut jobs”, “morons and societal reject” spewing “some crazy garbage” “lunatics” “bat-s#*t-crazy-Illuminati” ” Frightening, troubling, pathetic and puzzling” “sees Elvis all the time @ the local mall. And, she knows the moon landing was faked.”

That’s an awful lot of insults. By the way, did ya’ll watch the video with an open mind? I’m guessing not, but that’s okay. Maybe someone else will. By the way, your insults don’t really bother me at all, hence I’m not throwing any back.

  6. Hildegard sees Elvis all the time @ the local mall. And, she knows the moon landing was faked.

  7. Dust Bunny and Paul C. You might want to check this out, but most likely you don’t. It’s all about that lone but convincingly graphic video shot in the alley behind the Bataclan theater. Makes me feel kind of dumb that I fell for it. Pay particular attention to the woman hanging from the window. She’s one strong woman.

Mizzou: A Textbook Case of the Triumph of Barbarity Over Civility in Higher Ed
How student and faculty barbarians win.
    November 13, 2015
    Jack Kerwick

Due to demands by student activists and their enablers on the staff and faculty of University of Missouri, the President and Chancellor have now resigned.

    Good riddance.

Neither Tom Wolfe nor R. Bowen Loftin deserves an iota of sympathy. In fact, they are at least as contemptible as the lynch mob that drove them from their offices, for they had been every bit as guilty as the professors and football coaches who have spent years pandering to the sophomoric bullies who society expected for them to educate.

This last point bears repeating: The University of Missouri, like the overwhelming majority of America’s institutions of “higher learning,” exists on the taxpayer’s dime. No college, no student, is entitled to one penny that belongs to someone else. That society subsidizes Mizzou implies a duty—a duty!—on the part of the latter to make its students into educated, self-disciplined, law-abiding citizens.

Wolfe, Loftin, and Mizzou’s football coaches and faculty have failed miserably on this score. They have reneged on their contract with the rest of us. They have betrayed their American compatriots, including those millions and millions of working-class and middle-class Americans who labor diligently day after day and week after week only to have a portion of their earnings confiscated and redistributed to grease the wheels of the Academic-Industrial-Complex.

Mizzou’s football players refused to play anymore games until Wolfe had resigned. Had he been committed to discharging his obligation to the taxpayer, to say nothing of his obligation to the school community, he would have deprived the football players of their scholarships, expelled them from school, and terminated the coaches who backed them.

Of course, the University of Missouri is but a microcosm of the contemporary scene in academia: the worst of vices—cowardice, hypocrisy, obsequiousness, hyper-emotionality, rigorous anti-intellectualism, self-aggrandizement, and many others—exemplified by the administrators, faculty, staff, and students at Mizzou are legion throughout the academic world.

Higher education is Big Education. The causes for the intellectual and moral rot of the university are admittedly various. Yet one huge cause is the university itself.

If students really are under the delusion that “racism,” “sexism,” and the like are omnipresent in, of all places, such bastions of left-wing “progressive” ideology as the college campus, it is because their professors and school administrators have worked tirelessly, obsessively even, to convince them that this is so.

So too has the young’s wildly exaggerated sense of self-importance been fueled in no small measure by the same suspects.

The product of the poisonous combination of these two flights of fancy—victimhood and narcissism—is barbarism.

Barbarians don’t discuss; they demand. Barbarians don’t remonstrate; they coerce. Barbarians don’t’ have interlocutors. In fact, they don’t even see opponents.

    Barbarians see enemies.

And because they are enemies who, as such, are outside of the orbit of the tribe, a barbarian’s enemies must, in effect, be reduced to the status of, not just non-persons, but non-entities.

This explains why the student and faculty barbarians at Mizzou demanded not just the resignation of Tom Wolfe, but his complete social annihilation: Among their list of demands was the demand that Wolfe write a hand-written letter in which he confesses to his “negligence”—i.e. his racial insensitivity or, what amounts to the same thing, his “racism.” Then, he was ordered to hold a press conference in the student center where he would read from his letter aloud.

To reiterate, the barbarians of Mizzou didn’t demand that Wolfe do all of this in lieu of resigning. They demanded that he grovel and disgrace himself in addition to leaving his post.

In other words, the barbarians didn’t just want victory over Wolfe. As is their way, they sought to humiliate and degrade him.

Wolfe and Loftin didn’t meet all of these demands—even if they did in fact do some groveling before they eventually resigned. The point, though, is that their failure is now complete, for, courtesy of their spinelessness, student barbarians everywhere—as well as everyone else—now know that barbarianism is a winning ticket.

The University of Missouri is a classic textbook case of how and why barbarity trumps civility on today’s college campus.

  9. Crymobs, Crybullying and the Left’s Whiny War on Speech
    Shut up, they’re upset!
    November 12, 2015
    Daniel Greenfield

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam.

The left is a victimhood cult. It feeds off pain and fetishizes suffering as a moral commodity to be sold and resold in exchange for political power.

The cult’s credo is that its solutions to human suffering take precedence over freedom or democracy. It exploits suffering when it can and creates it where it can’t. Its social media has ushered in the Warholian era of victimhood where everyone can be a famously oversharing victim for 15 trending minutes.

Forget about meritocracy. This is the victimocracy.

The victimocracy’s foot soldier is the crybully. The crybully is the abuser who pretends to be a victim. His arguments are his feelings. He comes armored in identity politics entitlement and is always yelling about social justice or crying social justice tears.

If you don’t fight back, the crybully bullies you. If you fight back, the crybully cries and demands a safe space because you made him feel unsafe.

Lions form a pride, crows gather into a murder and crybullies cringe into a crymob. The crymob demands a safe space because free speech and dissent makes its crybullies feel very unsafe.

Crymobs will “safebait” by yelling and pushing and then whining that the people they’re shoving make them feel unsafe. One crybully safebaiting tactic is to yell loudly, forcing anyone talking back to them to raise their voice. That’s when other crybullies begin shouting, “Don’t yell at her.” Crybullies will push into you and cry that you’re making them feel unsafe. They will hit you and when you raise your hands in self-defense, they will scream that you’re putting your hands on them. (All these safebaiting tactics and more can be seen in the Missouri video.)

Crybullies don’t think this behavior is dishonest because their pain privilege entitles them to tone police you, but you can’t tone police them. Their sweet social justice tears give them the right to yell at you, shove you or hit you. Crying over social justice gives them a license to bully everyone else.

If crybullies can’t safebait you, they will manufacture threats by faking hate crimes against themselves or phoning in bomb threats to validate their need for a safe space in which no one is allowed to disagree with them. Surviving their own fake crimes turns crybullies into social justice heroes.

It’s impossible to have a rational conversation with a crybully because it doesn’t walk to talk to you; it wants to loudly broadcast its feelings. As one Yale crybully wrote, “I don’t want to debate. I want to talk about my pain.” My pain. Me. Stop arguing with me and start paying attention to me right now.

A crybully’s pain isn’t caused by poverty, disease or an elephant stepping on its toes. Instead it’s caused by the existence of other people who don’t take its ridiculous claims of suffering seriously.

The crybully is upset because you aren’t as upset as it is upset. And you can’t be as upset as the crybully because who do you think you are anyway? You don’t know pain the way that a privileged 19-year-old identity politics major whose latest tantrum hasn’t been affirmed by authority knows pain. Even claiming that you can relate to the crybully’s pain is offensive. No one else has ever suffered like it.

The crybully isn’t even all that outraged by the thing he’s protesting over, but he’s outraged that you aren’t taking his feelings seriously. His feelings always matter more than the issue.

Administrators at Yale and the University of Missouri were crymobbed not because of what they did, but because they didn’t take the feelings of the crybullies seriously enough, fast enough.

The crymob protests because its feelings are hurt. The original incidents don’t matter. Like a toddler, it quickly forgets whatever made it start crying and instead it cries because it’s crying. Like overgrown babies, the crymob’s political objective is to punish those in power who didn’t immediately pick it up, cradle it and sing it a soothing social justice song. So that next time they’ll jump and then ask how high.

Crybullies want everyone who isn’t a crybully to shut up and never speak again. Once this happens, they settle down to bullying each other over who has the most intersectional pain or privilege.

That’s how the victimocracy is ruled.

The campus crymobs demand that everyone who isn’t a crybully shut up and never speak again on pain of having to undergo privilege training sessions by otherwise unemployable identity politics studies majors.

And that is just the crymob with a permanent university position and a paycheck. The great dream of the crybully is to force every student to submit to daily crybullying. The crybully is just a weak, cowardly government licensed bully who wants a job bullying people for life while talking about his suffering.

Under a victimocracy, where college administrators knuckle under to the Office for Civil Rights and social justice hashtags, the crybullies get their way. At the top of the victimocracy, President Crybully whines that he is the victim of racism while breaking so many laws that Nixon looks like a choirboy. At the bottom, the crybullies of Yale and Missouri, who one day aspire to be President Crybully, claim that they can’t eat or sleep because someone on campus offended them and no one has been fired for the crime.

The media has become a massive crymob swarming with horrid tales of upset crybullies complete with sad photos of their social justice tears. In Missouri, the campus crymob turned on the national crymob. When crybullies and their crymobs run out of normal people to safebait, they turn on each other.

The real victims of the victimocracy aren’t inside it, but outside it. They’re the ordinary people whose lives are suddenly ruined by the crazed radicals and insane activists who can cry on cue and demand safe spaces while howling like maddened banshees. Maybe they told the wrong joke or wore the wrong costume. They didn’t pander to a crybully fast enough or brushed off his demands as ridiculous.

Or they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And soon there was a crymob safebaiting its way across another campus, another branch of literature or around the world.

Crybullies are everything they claim to abhor. They are narcissists who complain about selfishness. Completely incapable of human empathy, they whine that no one cares about their feelings. They are prone to cowardly acts of violence, but demand safe spaces. They are bullies who say they’re bullied.

The crybully embodies the left. He is an oppressed oppressor. An abusive victim. A self-righteous hypocrite. A loudmouth censor. A civil rights activist who wants to take everyone’s rights away.

  10. Angry White Leftists Target a Black Conservative Woman

    Fighting oppression at Vanderbilt U.

    November 13, 2015

    Daniel Greenfield

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam.

Dr. Carol Swain was born in segregated Virginia. The second of twelve children, she grew up sharing a bed with her sisters in a shack that had no running water. Her family was so poor that she had no shoes and had to stay home from school when the weather was bad. She never did make it to high school.

And now 1,400 leftist fascists have signed a petition to Vanderbilt University demanding that one of the most respected African-American scholars in this country take diversity training or be “terminated.”

The petition to force a conservative black woman to undergo diversity training comes from Nick Goldbach, a white hipster student and self-described “urban enthusiast” who claims that working as a waiter at a “sustainable” luxury urban resort in Connecticut taught him about “common humanity.”

Nick cares about “civil rights and social action,” “chic and unassuming” dining experiences and getting a black woman whose writings about race and racism were cited by Supreme Court justices fired.

And once that’s done, Nick and a few of his closest social justice warrior pals can celebrate with another “chic and unassuming” dining experience. Dr. Swain had worked her way up from a GED to a PhD by taking a job at McDonald’s where the dining experiences are unassuming, if not especially chic.

Dr. Swain’s fiercest critics have always been hypocritical white leftists who claim to speak for minorities. She was targeted by the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization whose white leftist bosses have made a fortune from exploiting black people. Now she has run afoul of angry white social justice hipsters who claim that she “espouse(s) hate towards minorities” and that a black woman who grew up under segregation needs “diversity training.”

Joining the campaign against Dr. Swain is Emmie Arnold, a grad student, running a letter writing campaign to get the most prominent African-American scholar at Vanderbilt fired because poor, dear Emmie feels an “obligation to advocate with and for people who are being oppressed.”

Emmie Arnold is white, feminist, gluten-free and encourages followers on Tumblr to “pay for the convenience of upscale grocery stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joes.” She was a member of two sororities. When she isn’t shopping at upscale grocery stores, she’s fighting “oppression” by oppressing an African-American scholar who grew up experiencing real oppression and is still being oppressed by the likes of Emmie and Nick and a few hundred of their closest Facebook friends.

Emmie, who isn’t even at Vanderbilt, has accused Dr. Swain of creating an “unsafe environment for students who face enough danger off campus.” What danger does a 61-year-old African-American PhD pose to Vanderbilt students? Does she beat them up in hallways? Does she secretly tempt them with gluten? Does she menace them with sharp objects while they sip Organic Kale Tonic from Whole Foods?

How did Dr. Swain create this “unsafe environment”? By being an unapologetic Christian who remains true to her faith. By staying true to the political and social conservative values that had enabled her to rise from poverty to a PhD. By refusing to be censored by the campus social justice warriors who claim that fighting oppression means eliminating dissent. By speaking out against Islamic violence and racism.

It was only a matter of time until her spirit of truthtelling caught the attention of the furious campus activists who fight free speech and gluten with equal vigor.

Dr. Swain represents everything that they abhor; religious faith, hard work, reason and common sense.

When Dr. Swain responded to their insulting racist petition by saying that “[o]nly an idiot would think a 61-year-old black woman who has spent most of her life in academia would benefit from sensitivity training,” she was accused of ableism.

The professor had committed the ultimate hate crime. She had been insensitive to idiots.

And there are a lot of angry idiots on campus these days. Meanspirited little fascists driven to destroy anyone who reminds them of their own worthlessness, their shallowness and their ignorance.

Dr. Swain’s hard work, her accomplishments remind them that they’re privileged brats playing at social justice, organizing cultural revolutions out of spite, silencing ideas because they can’t win arguments.

As John Proctor says in The Crucible, when confronting a system gone mad, animated by the denunciations of vicious brats, “Now the little crazy children are jangling the keys of the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law!” That is what is happening all over again today.

Alyssa Janco, another white Vanderbilt student targeting Dr. Swain, barks, “Professor Swain is free to believe and say whatever she’d like; but freedom of speech does not equate to freedom from consequences.” That exact argument has been used by every totalitarian regime in the world. It is telling that the left has embraced the argument that it once rejected simply because it is in power now.

Sinclair Lewis was wrong. When fascism came to America, it came wrapped in tolerance and sensitivity. Petition signers claim they want Dr. Swain purged because they “care about everyone feeling welcome, safe and accepted” or “a community of acceptance and welcoming.” It’s intolerance in the name of tolerance. The only way to be truly welcoming and accepting is to drive out those who disagree.

“No one should feel unwelcome at Vanderbilt,” a signer writes, while signing a petition to make Dr. Swain unwelcome at Vanderbilt. Petitioners complain that Dr. Swain had spoken negatively about Islam while ridiculing her own Christian faith. But, like all fanatics, they are insensitive to their own hypocrisy.

The last word on the petition belongs to Xinzhu Zhou who firmly states that, “People who think their beliefs are better than others’ beliefs should not be credited as tenured professors.” If believing that something is right and another thing is wrong disqualifies one as a professor, what will intellectual debate consist of? Intellectual debate won’t exist. There will be a consensus of mandatory agreement.

And intellectual debate is rapidly vanishing from campuses under pressure from mobs of crybullies whining that they feel unsafe because someone has been allowed to disagree with them. Intimidated administrators afraid of losing their jobs abandon the values of discourse and look for a human sacrifice.

Instead of defending Dr. Swain’s right to her religion and her ideas, Vanderbilt Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos echoed the grievances of the petitioners and only mentioned freedom of speech in the third paragraph of his statement as allowing for “the expression of unpopular and offensive views.”

He promised to “bring Vanderbilt’s core values to bear” on their demands for Dr. Swain’s head.

Dr. Swain has posted that she believes, “That this is more than a student led and initiated movement. I feel that there has been a bounty on my head ever since I stood up for the Christian groups on campus. We fought the battle for almost three years and lost.”

    No doubt she is right.

Cultural revolutions use angry student activists as foot soldiers, but behind them are adults angling for power. The Red Guard or Hitler Youth member who beat teachers or smashed store windows was a puppet in the hands of cruel and cynical men and women. Some of them would eventually regret what they had done, the people whose lives they had ruined for the cause, but by then it was often too late.

The students targeting Dr. Swain claim to be “fighting oppression.” But true resistance to oppression is in fighting oppressors. Fighting oppression by destroying free speech and silencing dissent is just oppression no matter how much hypocritical self-righteous makeup it wears to the dance.

The left is taking off its masks. It has given up pretending that it believes in rights and freedoms. Now, in its final stage, it imposes oppression in the name of tolerance and sensitivity. It claims that eliminating the opposition is the only way to make its oppressed oppressors feel safe and welcomed.

The fight for Dr. Swain’s academic freedom and her freedom of speech is the true fight against oppression.

Dr. Swain has been fighting against real oppression generations before her attackers were even old enough to complain that gluten in their light beers is oppression. She lived under segregation. She rose up from crushing poverty. And she is still standing strong against her oppressors today.

U of Missouri Protesters Protesting Racial Exclusion Create “Black Only” Safe Space
Segregation is fine as long as you call it a safe space

Apparently segregation is fine as long as you call it a safe space or a healing space. Just not a segregated space, which is what it actually is.

In an ironic development, to say the least, protesters at the University of Missouri (MU) segregated themselves by race Wednesday night, having white students leave a gathering in order to create a “black-only healing space.”

The seven groups amounted to six breakout groups for black (or at least non-white) students and one for the remaining white students.

After protesters attacked reporters who were attempting to cover the drama Monday at MU, the group attacked “white media” for failing to “understand the importance of respecting black spaces” (though that tweet has since been deleted).

    To recap…

    1. Administrators were forced to resign because they didn’t show enough concern for the crazy antics of the protesters, including an obnoxious rich kid’s “hunger” strike, over supposed racial incidents.

    2. The protesters are creating racial incidents of a kind that were considered illegal since the civil rights movement. Ironically one of the supposed causes of this was black girls being barred from a frat party. Now the self-righteous racists protests are doing the same thing they were complaining about.

    Isn’t social justice hypocrisy awesome?

  12. Nick – it has been a nice couple of weeks on the blog.

Most of us women have to learn not to get shrill when we project our voice. It just seems to be a natural tendency.

  13. Academia indoctrinated these children. Academia inculcated “Political Correctness.”

“Political Correctness” has come back and bit Academia on the arse.

The essential argument against the University of Missouri et al. is slavery begetting racism.

Slavery was a very British institution.

After 250 years of existence, America got rid of British slavery in 50 years, the hard way.

At best, 4% of Americans owned slaves.

96% of Americans had nothing to do with slavery. They couldn’t afford it.

Freed slaves and their ancestors should seek “reparations” from the British.

Freed slaves should never again receive superior treatment.

Affirmative action and anti-American, false, racist, sexist, biased Political Correctness must be eliminated.

The rioting students at the University of Missouri must be expelled.

The football players and coaches should be expelled, fired and blacklisted. Find another career path.

In the future, all students should study.

    Period.

  14. Obviously if there had been a poop cross on the bathroom wall, one could only conclude that a Christian extremist put it there, right? So, in this case it only stands to reason that a Nazi that hates black people is behind the poop swastika. You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to smell the swastika!

  15. Karen, Animals are much better at determining who is the alpha. I didn’t know that about the voice tone and Margaret Thatcher. You taught me 2 things in just one comment. Greta Van Susteren must have gone to a voice couch to help lower her Minnie Mouse voice. But, when she gets excited the shrill, nails on the blackboard voice returns.

Hasn’t it been pleasant here the last couple weeks!

  16. What was it that Margaret Thatcher said she learned about public speaking? Women instinctively get shrill when they raise their voice, which makes them dismissed or otherwise come across unfavorably in public speaking. She had to learn to speak firmly, and actually lower her tone when projecting, in order to come across with more authority.

All us females learn this at a young age at the barn. Horses don’t respect shrieking. You get your low, alpha “Whoa!” voice.
