Pennsylvania Woman Charged With Assault With Christmas Tree

lovers25n-1-webThere are certain signature seasonal crimes and the alleged crimes of Karen Elaine Harrelson, 52, in Red Lion, Pa would certainly qualify. Harrelson is accused of assaulting Kayla Renne Still with the family Christmas tree. In light of our recent discussion of the trend of prosecutors to tack on terrorism charges, this appears another such case.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to the home at 3:03 p.m. on Sunday for a domestic disturbance. A fight erupted between Harrelson and Still over Harrelson lighting a cigarette inside of the house because her cousin was seven months pregnant. Harrelson was outraged by the demand that she smoke outside and allegedly started verbally abusing Still and then “picked up her grandmother’s Christmas tree and approached her in an aggressive manner and threw the tree at her and that’s when they fell onto the couch.”

Harrelson has a rather bizarre history. In 2013, she pleaded guilty in an incident where she and Gregory Stambaugh stabbed each other during an argument about who should win “American Idol.” The mugshot above was Harrelson’s mugshot from the American Idol arrest.

Harrelson is charged with two counts of simple assault and one count of terroristic threats. Once again, the use of “terroristic” charges raises a question of whether this term is losing its meaning in the law to cover conventional threats of violence. Notably, however, the Christmas tree was not declared a “lethal weapon”

  1. You know, maybe any sane members of this family should scatter…now. What was a 7 months pregnant woman doing in the same room with a woman who’d been previously found guilty of stabbing another relative over “American Idol”? Glad the pregnant woman was not harmed. And I dearly hope, for the sake of the child, that Harrelson is a black sheep and the baby’s parents are normal and stable.

Geez, it’s not like they were trying to center the darn tree in the tree stand, fumbling with all the eye bolts. That would be an excellent reason to just chuck the tree behind the couch and be done with it.

  2. The story here is not the decent of mankind going into animalistic behavior but again the use of ‘terroristic threat’ in the charges.
Was there a prosecutor conference they all went to and the press didn’t get the memo?

  3. Smokers need to unite. They usually do in Hell. I oughta know. When I got to come back in my next life Saint Peter let me have a recollection of what Hell was all about.

    • Almost certainly wrong Nick. While it is true that Clinton edged out Trump with women voters in general , there was a distinct education and race divide here. Trump won a larger percentage of white women without a college degree.

“College graduates backed Clinton by a 9-point margin (52%-43%), while those without a college degree backed Trump 52%-44%.” — Pew Report, November 9, 2016.

So it is much more likely that these women have Trump voter written all over them.

  4. This info is for anyone who is interested in finding the truth about the alleged PULSE nite club terror event

we know that the shooting was not a real event but a hoax, including that the license for the club expired in 2013; that its legal occupancy was only 150; that it had only 11 parking spaces; that if 50 had been killed and 53 injured, there would have been abandoned vehicles all over the place; and more, such as that (as in the case of Sandy Hook and the Boston bombing), there was also no surge of EMTs into the building and no string of ambulances to rush the bodies to hospitals where doctors could pronounce them dead or alive:

    here’s more:

    • I don’t typically respond to pure idiocy, but I am compelled to do so in this instance because (a) I live in Orlando and know that your statements are false, and (b) idiocy tends to spread like a virus without early intervention and treatment.
