Trump Unleashes Personal Attack On The Hosts Of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”

Notably, about a half hour before Trump’s tweets, White House Director of Social Media Dan Scavino tweeted: “#DumbAsARockMika and lover #JealousJoe are lost, confused & saddened since @POTUS @realDonaldTrump stopped returning their calls! Unhinged.”

donald_trump_president-elect_portrait_croppedThen, while the show was on the air, Trump attacked the show for being “poorly rated” and called the hosts names.    The first tweet was posted at 8:52 am”

I heard poorly rated speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..

Just for the record, Morning Joe recently hit an all-time high in viewership.

As many of you know, I am a regular on the show.  Notably, I have been one of those commentators who have been questioning the basis for criminal allegations against Trump as well as the calls for impeachment. I further have argued that the law is on Trump’s side on the immigration order.  Yet, I have been regularly asked to appear on the show by Joe and Mika.  Indeed, Joe has also questioned the basis for the lower court orders against the Trump Administration.  It is certainly true that there is much criticism of Trump on the show, but that is hardly a distinguishing characteristic from other shows on other networks.  Moreover, I have never met anyone who questioned the intelligence or stability of Mika. Indeed, even to write that line seems perfectly bizarre.

Yet, this is not about refuting allegations that the respected hosts are “crazy” or “psycho.”  It is about the standards that are expected of not just a president but an adult in a civil society.  This falls considerably short of that standard.

It then (as is often the case) went from bad to worse with the second tweet on the face lift.

Once again, I fail to understand the motivation or even the meaning behind these tweets. While they may thrill the lowest common denominator of our country, most of us recoil from such attacks. I have raised four children that they must remain civil and respectful in their dealings with other people, including those who criticize you.  Indeed, I tell them what my father taught me: you have only one unbreakable commitment in this family, you must pass along the family name in as good or better shape than you received it.  That means maintaining your dignity and civility in any circumstance, particularly when others might yield to the temptation of personal or petty attacks.  That is why I do not find White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders response very compelling: “This is a president who fights fire with fire.” There are no excuses for name calling or petty attacks. That is the test of every adult — to maintain decorum and civility regardless of the circumstance (even when others may call you names or insult you).

Republican leaders to their credit have already denounced the tweets as have Fox anchors and conservative commentators on publications like the National Review.  Sen. Lindsey Graham is quoted as saying “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.” Others including Speaker Paul Ryan have followed suit and said that this is not acceptable for any president:

The President’s tweets are beneath the dignity of his office. It needs to stop.

Stop it! The Presidential platform should be used for more than bringing people down.

Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.

Susan Collins on Trump’s tweets to @mitchellreports: “There is no need for such uncivil language.”

Ben Sasse

@BenSassePlease just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office.

This is not okay. As a female in politics I am often criticized for my looks. We should be working to empower women. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/880410114456465411

MCCAIN on Trump’s Tweets this morning: “It’s hard to understand, and not presidential…”

At a time when the White House needs every Republican vote to achieve meaningful reforms, these shocking tweets are causing considerable damage below the waterline of the Administration.  As with the tweets during the litigation, Trump has become the main witness against himself.  What is particularly interesting is that this has been a difficult week for CNN after retracting a story and having both a producer and a host taped privately questioning the Russian investigation stories.  This will succeed in reducing that pressure as everyone covers the latest personal attack on Twitter.  Each of these tweets unnerves Republican allies about the work ahead and trusting the White House to lead them into the mid-term elections.  That should not, however, be the criteria.  These tweets are deeply troubling and beneath the office of the President of the United States.

  1. And would everyone stop quoting that sanctimonious know-it-all Lindsey Graham.

He ran for POTUS and got 1% of the vote. He even finished 3rd in SC. He’s not in a Senate Leadership position, yet like McCain he’s constantly on TV, expressing an opinion on Trump and every other political topic like he’s the real President or the Secretary of State.

And… Bush II behaved like John turley expects a POTUS to act. He was viciously attacked (Bush Hitler) and never responded. End result: The Left simply became more and more emboldened and nasty – and his supporters become demoralized. After all, if the White House didn’t defend itself, why should they?

One reason Trump won, is he fights back. If he sometimes goes too far, that’s the price you pay. And of course, Obama and Clinton were treated with respect by the MSM, so their “graciousness” was easily earned.

      1. Right, let’s repeat just one reason for Trump to fight back hard:

“And of course, Obama and Clinton were treated with respect by the MSM, so their “graciousness” was easily earned.”

The MSM never got nasty with Obama. Ever. In eight years. Even when he spied on them. See the difference??

  2. Well, it is like have said many time before, any real danger that Trump poses is undermined by his bull-in-a-china-shop ways.
This is a good thing, and a self-limiting aspect of his presidency.
This would not have happened with Hillary, who would have been full of proper decorum and respectability, while she gutted our Union behind the palatable facade.
I would rather have an uncouth, boorish, but honest president, than a smooth, inoffensive president that duplicitously connived behind the scenes.
Those were the choices given to the American people, both bad, but one was worse.

    1. “I would rather have an uncouth, boorish, but honest president, than a smooth, inoffensive president that duplicitously connived behind the scenes.”
      —————
Totally agree. I see Barack Obama as a 100% duplicitous, conniving behind the scenes kind of guy. And he still is – Obama is 100% not to be trusted with what he says or does. He is a complete fraud. Provably so. With Trump what you see is what you get. Much better in my book.

      1. Oh, and Hillary is just a complete mess. Never was going to be president ever in this lifetime, so I don’t even bother with analyzing her 😉

  3. She’s second-hand merchandise and he’s third-hand. (She’s also terribly groomed and appears to have an eating disorder). I do wonder what they see in each other.

  4. You really need to get out more.

It’s unfortunate the public dignity of politicians has declined so. As a law professor, I’d expect you to be more concerned with the manner in which the judiciary has beclowned itself.

    1. Regarding the Judiciary, where are the calls that Ruth Ginsberg recuse herself from Travel ban case? Her political anti-Trump comments show she can not judge the case fairly.

  5. I read Trump’s tweets and fell off my chair, I was laughing so hard. Mike and Joe really are both Low IQ and crazy and I’m glad Trump told the truth. I’d recommend Scott Adams new video on twitter where he talks about it.

Of course, Trump has been feuding with these two for a long time, ever since they’ve gone on their show and launched one vicious personal attack after another on Trump. Our President isn’t going to change, so if want someone who will bear personal insults and attacks with silent grace & dignity – you’re out of luck.

  6. “unhinged.” “inexcusable.”

    Right.

That’s how I’d characterize this post. It’s ridiculous. It’s as if Turley has not detected the consistent pattern Trump has displayed lo these last two years: he ALWAYS has a not-yet-visible true point he is making, lurking just behind the seemingly outrageous thing he tweets. He always ends up winning, some time later, as the charged atmosphere he created by the tweet becomes a massive story, usually the MSM scampering to “prove” that what he said is beyond the pale. Later, always, it turns out that all he was doing is cleverly forcing the press to actually do its job, and dig up the underlying story–which is always favorable to Trump (which they would never dream of doing, if they did not think they were–once again–digging Trump’s grave).

Rush, yesterday, talked about how this technique is like using a laser-pointer to drive a kitty cat nuts, to the point it will crash into a wall chasing it. Tucker featured that bit on his show last night, in fact, chuckling.

Truly doesn’t get it, perhaps because he likes the elite establishment he has devoted himself to being a part of. Trump triumphs over the swamp each and every time because the swamp creatures have no idea that that’s what they are. Fish don’t know they’re wet. The blue tumor-like blotches on the electoral map are filled with people who only talk to people like themselves, inside the bubble of elite establishmentarianism. Too bad Jon Turley is from Chicago, which is not the Mid West, but just an isolated blue tumor in a cast sea of red normality.

Speaking of Tucker, he had Sharyl Attkisson on the other day, and she explained what drives the elite establishment to lunacy about Trump as well aa anyone:

  7. JT, you are invited on the show because that show lacks the intelligence you have. Why should the President not respond to those that have called him all sorts of things, especially Mika. They are way out of their league and appeal to the lowest common denominator. I no longer watch the show and hope at least when you are on that show you don’t gravitate to their level.

I read the quotes you posted and I don’t see why you even have a complaint. Trump’s comments about them was on target. Yes, it is unusual for a President to speak his mind in a direct fashion. I think much of the American public on both sides is fed up listening to the phony words of politicians and prefer a more honest approach even if the words are coarse and don’t satisfy the gentility of the elite. Do you consider yourself part of that gentility?

Please note, I personally don’t like the President’s language, but I prefer it to the language of the Bush’s or the Clintons.

    1. Please provide quotes and links of the ‘language’ you disliked from Bush/Clinton. TIA.

      1. You obvously chose the wrong way of interpreting what I said. Bill Clinton and GWB both were far more polite than Trump, but they didn’t always attach their polite words to what they did or didn’t do.

        1. Here’s the exact quote, nothing to ‘interpret:’ Please note, I personally don’t like the President’s language, but I prefer it to the language of the Bush’s or the Clintons.

          1. The language of Clinton and Bush was clean, but wasn’t as transparent as Trump’s. I prefer the transparency. Do you understand now?

Example “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” or Americans will save “$2,500” with the ACA.

Both comments were well said but weren’t true and even Obama’s aid Gruber said they were lying or the ACA would not have been passed.

  8. It’s hard to believe “Shifty Joe” was once a conservative Republican representative at one point in his life.

    Here are his bona fides:
    * will soon be siring a third batch of kids with his soon-to-be third wife and co-host
    * anti-vaxxer
    * couldn’t finish a TWO-year term and resigned in the midst of is fourth congressional stint less than halfway through it
    * wants to be governor of Connecticut

MSNBC, please keep this shyster employed. We don’t want or need him back in politics.

    1. * will soon be siring a third batch of kids with his soon-to-be third wife and co-host

She’s 50. He ain’t siring a thing without the use of uber-creepy reproductive technology, if then.

    2. * wants to be governor of Connecticut

Really? He grew up in the Florida panhandle and represented that section of the sate in Congress (not that you can tell from listening to him; we all live in Mall-land now).

      1. What, is he going to try the Charlie Crist wing-it-whatever-works model of political marketing?

  9. I voted for the man in spite of his ridiculous immaturity and ego issues. I’m not on the Trump train or a blind follower that excuses everything he tweets and says. I’m someone who absolutely did not want to see Hillary or any democrat in the White House so I got what I wanted, warts and all.

    1. JPC, Zbig’s contribution to state craft is the hell hole we are currently in all for the sake of crushing the Soviet Union.
Again, I will reccomend the book; Black Earth, by Timoth Snyder. The connection that pre and post World War II Polish actors has had with our government’s anti Communist fears based on their own escape from Russia and the Nazis was born in Poland, as was Zbig and Menachem Begin.
It’s fantastic reading about the birth of Zionism as well.

      1. Don’t know about Zionism but I do recall her daddy gave us Afghanistan and Iran under the peanut farmer.

      2. JPC, Zbig’s contribution to state craft is the hell hole we are currently in all for the sake of crushing the Soviet Union.

I wonder if there are any palaeos who are sober when they comment.

        1. Sober, you mean like our teetotaling POTUS? That kind of sober?
I can usually tell when I have made a reasonable suggestion you resort to smarmy insults instead of your usual Taliban style data sticks that you drive by with and whack people on the head
.Or maybe it’s the Catholic nun with a ruler across the knuckles. Either one.
          Or maybe you’re just tired.
          I do appreciate the repsonses.

          1. I can usually tell when I have made a reasonable suggestion you

You didn’t make a reasonable suggestion. (Bar for suggesting to me how I might mess with your head).

  10. FOR MONTHS NOW THESE TWO SKINNED LIBERALS HAVE BEEN DEFAMING PRESIDENT TRUMP in the secure confine of the msnbc studios .now that President Trump returns the favor they start crying. the whole network is a disgrace to our country. they are worse than cnn if that is possible.

    1. Didn’t realize Joe was an elected Democrat that served several terms in Congress. And I agree MSNBC is a disgrace. Greta and Hugh Hewitt do not deserve a platform.

      1. “Didn’t realize Joe was an elected Democrat that served several terms in Congress.”

For those who do not recognize the sarcasm, Scarborough is an elected Republican with a 95% life time rating from the American Conservative Union – according to Wiki.

        1. Yeah. And he was still married to his 1st wife then, too.

The guy’s for hire. That’s why he’s on MSDNC.

    2. The issue at hand, which you seem to miss, is that regardless of what this show says about Trump, why is he even responding. Trump’s behavior is infantile, and given his circumstances, presents us with a mentally unhinged individual, that just happens to be the President. We should expect more from our leaders. Trump is simply not Presidential material.

      1. “why is he even responding.”

Did you not note that he is now President and that is because he did not keep quiet.

“We should expect more from our leaders.”

He has an amazing list of accomplishment’s for a Presdent early in his term that faces solid Democratic opposition, so much so that even if he agreed with them they would find something wrong. The Democrats are acting in a stupid fashion because he is facing almost the same from most of the party he Represents.

          1. jc, Does that mean you are unaware of what is around you? You have noted that unemployment is down as well as the U6, right? Salaries have moved slightly in an upward direction. He promised to reduce illegal immigration and it has been reduced. He took Obama’s list of nations where there was no responsible government to help us vet aliens from those countries. He took action and closed the borders to them temporarily while better vetting procedures occur. He appointed a Supreme Court Justice with the highest of credentials formerly one that almost all Democrats approved of. He has stymied the Democrats and made them focus on inconsequential tweets rather than the business at hand. He has removed countelss of regulations that even many Democrats recognize have hurt the economy. He signed the Veterans choice Act. He aided the police all over the US and offered his support which is important when fighting crime. He is ridding us of criminal illegal aliens.

The above is a fraction of what Trump has done or been involved with. It is a welcome change even if you object to his being and what he has done.

It is a quite a change from Obama who let the Mideast go on fire supporting the enemies of the US while walking away from our friends. It is a change from Hillary who accused Trump of not being willing to accept whoever won the Presidency while Hillary keeps pretending the President isn’t legitimate.

  11. Maybe we have set our expectations a little to high for the position of POTUS.

Maybe the establishment has proven beneath the office in other ways that seem to me to be more structurally damaging and detrimental to everyday Americans than the classist, etiquette protocols being rendered neutered.

Joe Scarborough is one of the most sanctimonious talking heads on television. Mika just has PTTD.
Post Traumatic Trump Disorder, its a natural ailment over at MSNBC.

Rememeber the voters in the GOP primaries chose him over so many more”Above the Office” establsihment candidates. They despise the media as well.
Some people just don’t get it. That’s not fake news.

  12. “There are no excuses for name calling or petty attacks. That is the test of every adult — to maintain decorum and civility regardless of the circumstance.”

Hmmm. This was on Hannity a few days ago. It gets good at 2:35 in:

  13. Every day another grinding indignity inflicted on this nation by this man ..

  14. Unpresidential? If we wanted a typical president, we wouldn’t have voted for President Trump. Spend a day in his shoes before you pass judgement!😡

    1. If that’s the critierion, you could have written in the name of some skid-row street bum, am I right? Curious thought process there…

      1. You can replace my thoughts with whatever you like. I love our President. You can spew your crap from now until 2024. I don’t give a rat’s behind.

    1. Are you a Squeaky sock puppet or are there really this many ignorant people? Jill and Autumn need not reply.

      1. Ynot – so far your purpose here has been to insult people. Do you actually have anything that would advance the conversation.
