Wasserman Schultz Aide Arrested Allegedly Trying To Flee The County After Fraud Charge

Wasserman SchultzRep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, has been under intense criticism over her retention of Imran Awan as a technology aide.  While other members severed connections to Awan after he was accused of wrongdoing months ago, Wasserman Schultz retained him.  He has now been arrested at Dulles International Airport in an alleged attempt to flee the country.

Awan is an IT staffer accused of a scheme to double-charge the House for IT equipment. He and his family have  made millions of dollars on the House payroll working for Democratic members, according to a Politico report.

Today Wasserman Schultz fired him.  However, her refusal to terminate the association seemed curious to many, particularly since he was barred from accessing the House’s computer system since February.  In the meantime, the Capitol Police and federal authorities were finding evidence of double billing for computers, iPads, monitors, keyboards and routers. Wasserman Schultz has also been accused of not cooperating with investigators and there are ongoing negotiations over access to her computer.  After months of investigation, Wasserman Schultz is still in negotiation over access to her laptop.

Wasserman Schultz appears to be cursed in dealing with computer related issues. She resigned as Chair of the Democratic National Committee after hacked emails revealed that she was actively undermining Bernie Sanders in pushing the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. Despite the fact that the emails directly contradicted her statements to the public and the media (and she was one of the chief architects of the disaster in nominating Hillary Clinton), her constituents returned her to Congress.

Awan, 37, of Virginia, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to one count of bank fraud during his arraignment in federal court in Washington, D.C. He was mandated to wear a GPS monitor and submit to a monitoring plan with a curfew.  He was also ordered to surrender all his passports.

Meanwhile, the counsel for Wasserman Schultz, the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, recently began negotiating with Capitol Police for access to her laptop in the case. Until this point, she had resisted USCP efforts to look at her computer – even suggesting “consequences” for the agency if the computer was not promptly returned.

The criminal complaint and affidavit states that Awan bought a ticket to fly Monday to Doha, Qatar, and then Lahore, Pakistan.  Awan is of Pakistani descent.  He had a return flight booked for early January.

  1. DWS, b. 1966, has held public office continuously since 1992 and was on legislative staffs prior to that. She actually has a post-baccalaureate certificate in ‘political campaigning’ or some such. She’s a pure career politician. She is the echt Democratic pol.

  2. My guess would be that he was released on bail so that he could be permanently silenced. Harder to do (but not impossible) to one behind bars.

  3. Why is he released on bail when he has already PROVED he is a flight risk even though he surrendered his passport ?

Reminds me of a southern california pediatrician of korean descent who was suspected of tax evasion was caught trying to flee US and was ordered to surrender his passport. Which he did–an EXPIRED passport! He promptly left for Korea with the up to date passport

  4. “Wassrman” is german for water man. The W in german is pronounced like a V. In days of old a Vasserman delivered water to homes. So, Debbie, bring me a barrel of vasser and don’t bring the Muslim or the russian.

  5. The most charitable spin on this is that Wasserman Schultz was too blindly protective of an underling. Loyalty the wrong way, it might seem.

    1. I agree with Jay S. Not to mention, Professor, I thought we were still considering people innocent unless and until proven guilty – even with the current administration.

  6. So the capitol police have had her computer for months but are still negotiating with DWS for access? How is this not impeding an investigation? Perhaps DWS will be the weak link that finally breaks open an investigation into the DNC, Clinton, etc.

    1. Olly – the Capitol Police could ship the computer to the border and then DWS would be forced to open it. It is that, or sit is a jail until she cooperates.

  7. Indie journalist George Webb has been following the Awan bros story for almost a year

    1. Podesto is mentioned in the linked video. He can be seen in an internet video sitting on a dais with Jeb Bush calling on donors to give to candidates who will privatize public schools. During Hillary’s campaign, the CEO of The Podesto Group firm was a “former GOP political operative and deputy campaign manager for former Gov. Jeb Bush”.
The Walton-funded GenNext site is worth a visit to see their goals (one is privatizing schools and another relates to international security). Two people featured at the site were Janet Napolitano- President of the University of Calf. public university system, who has worked to undermine public pensions and Donald Rumsfeld.
The problem the country faces is not left vs. right. It is oligarchy

  8. Going to Doha, Qatar & Lahore, Pakistan? Was Awan going to hook up with ISIS or Taliban?

  9. well if this dude isn’t killed it will be interesting to hear what he has to say – been “Servicing” the Dims since 2005….

    1. I’m surprised he still stayed as long as he did after he saw Panda murdered.
Unless he was part of the corruption Panda was exposing to Wikileaks. And he thought he was invisible like the rest of the DNC Gang.

      1. Looks like he did it for the money to some extent.

How does Wasserman Schultz explain why she kept paying him after he was under investigation and not doing any work? How does that work?

    2. been “Servicing” the Dims since 2005….

Someone posted this on another site that your comment reminded me of:

I become confused when I hear the word Service used with these agencies:
      – Internal Revenue Service
      – US Postal Service
      – Cable TV Service
      – Civil Service
      – Federal, State, City, & public Service
      – Customer Service

This is NOT what I thought Service meant.

But today, I overheard two farmers talking and one of them said he had bought a bull to Service his cows.

BAM It all came into focus. Now I understand what all those agencies are doing to us.

      1. Olly, LOL!

I still am flabbergasted that Paki contractors would be hired – was DSW not able to find anyone from NK, Iran, China — or gasp! Russia? Foreign nationals from those countries have no place working in our government and being exposed to sensitive documents.

        1. Why didn’t Congress establish a core group of IT employees dedicated to running their network?

Of course these individuals would be U.S. citizens, background checked and credentials and education verified.

Of course the House of Representatives during the reign of Obama never bothered to do something like that.

/Rep. Ted Lieu, Jackie Speier and Adam Schiff, curiously all from California need to be brought before Congress to explain why and how they went outside House Rules to hire these unqualified, criminal and foreign workers to such critical work.

          1. “how they went outside House Rules to hire these unqualified, criminal…”

Birds of a feather flock together.

  10. DWS will be re elected to her seat in congress in the next election. Whose to blame here, the people.

    1. Same with DINOS, Corey Booker (hedge fund lover and school privatizer), R.I. Gov. Raimondo, N.Y. Gov. Cuomo and Sen. Manchin. Bring in competitive candidates for the primaries and find a way to better inform voters.

  11. He will be found dead with a bullet in the back of his head. It will be ruled a suicide.

    1. Joseph Rago, 34, a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal, has died, it was reported Friday. Police were still investigating the cause of death and there was no apparent sign of trauma.

While still in his 20s, Rago was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing for a series of pieces critical of ObamaCare.

    2. He has brothers, there is evidence.

He’s a broke, scheming scoundrel, hopefully the Feds will convince him to turn state’s evidence against Wasserman Schultz, the DNC and Hillary Clinton.

He’s got nothing to go to now. He’s got nothing.

  12. From what democrat leadership clamors over she is the best they have to offer. A poor example I would say. But as long as they continue to pride themselves in foisting her they will continue to slide into the gutter with all the corruptions of politicians past.

  13. Maybe Awan is the source of the DNC hacked or stolen emails not the Russians.

    1. #HisNameisSethRich, he was also an IT guy for the DNC, Bernie supporter.
      They probably knew each other.
Last year after the primary was stolen from Bernie, #SethRich was so upset, that he contacted Wikileaks under the alias ‘Panda’ and dumped 30,000 + DNC, Clinton Machine emails to them.
Later after Podesta wrote a threatening email about finding the leaker, He was killed by a somebody a year ago walking in his neighborhood (wallet not stolen).
      News NOT at 11. 😦

    2. From what I have heard, they are “leaked,” not “hacked.” Another words, for people who apparently don’t know the difference, or don’t care to–especially if you love pumping out a lot of hot air–

Hack: I broke into a system and stole electronic information

Leak: I was in charge and gave them away… “you want them, here you go!” The crime seems to me to be in the leaker. But our government seems to be made up of leaking leakers…. so my question is, what good is it?

I’m also betting we’ll not hear much more about Awan. He’ll rot in a cell and that eventually be arkancided; but we’ll have to hear that from independent sources.

      1. slohrss29, What evidence did the source you rely upon give that shows the information was leaked and not hacked?

I am not contesting the information rather I want to know from the source how they know.

        1. Since there are so many actors now leaking, it is hard to keep track of. But, if we go all the way back to the HRC bathroom server and the personal email accounts, you would have to say these were “hacked.” Forgot how long this has been going on. Didn’t seem to bother Democrats then–but now that they are trying to hang hacking charges on the orange buffoon, it is beyond ridiculous. After all, since we started commenting on here about the bathroom servers, wasn’t one of the main issues security? Once again, it seem to bother Democrats at the time.
Seemed to me a whole pile of laws-procedures were broken here. Where were all the self-righteous Democrats so concerned about law, order, and secrets? After all, HRC did have the server in her possession.

          1. The best indicator of a lack of integrity with the Left is their silence. The idea they are interested in the rule of law or national security or anything resembling a just government is fanciful. If they put the full court press on all cases where there is actual evidence of violations of the law instead of their tunnel vision on President Trump, they might regain some credibility.

      2. No I have forllowed and posted about this story since February when the Daily Caller broke it.

This story is fundamental to crimes committed by the DNC central to the election of 2016.

It’s got legs and will have to lead to a legal conclusion. Rest assured.

The fact tha the FBI is now involved, don’t know what took so long, but perhaps proof things are changing now that Comey the Leaker is gone. GONE.

      1. DWS is a member of the Lizoid species Ziosauroanus Terribilis Infantem Interfectorem

  14. Debbie Wasserman Schultz THREATENS Capitol Police Chief to ‘expect consequences’

    1. 1) She implies that members of Congress are different than other citizens.
      2) She asks the same question over and over, receiving the same response.
      3) Consequences? If I was the Chief I would have pressed her to elaborate, and see how deep a hole she digs herself.

      1. She’s trying to pin him to a misleading scenario: 1) Congressional Police find a laptop belonging to a Member of Congress; 2) Member is not under investigation 3) Police must return laptop. But she leaves out the obvious; that her IT guy is very much under investigation, and therefore, any computers that he used or worked on may contain evidence of a crime. And she’s making it seem like she’s trying to hide something with her threats. Her relationship with this thieving IT employee and his family is curious. It makes me wonder if she put him up to something and now he’s blackmailing her.

      2. I think that hole is called abuse of power and obstruction of justice.

        Where is Mr. Mueller?

    2. The Lizard Lady of Congress. Pelosi and this fool, are disgracing smart, reputable women every day they remain in office.

      1. They’re disgracing their two selves. The only ‘smart, reputable’ women they could disgrace is those tarred by association with them. That would be other women in Congress. You know, like, er, Tracy Flick Kristen Gillibrand…

      2. Nick, that’s why Tulsi Gabbard stepped down as co chair of the DNC – no one sane would want to be associated with this viper.

        1. Autumn. Gabbard is too good a person to be in politics. I would not want my daughter or granddaughter in politics.

          1. Sigh, you are probably right Nick. People with integrity are generally destroyed. Still, one can hope =)

BTW – Congrats on your 40th anniversary! May you and your bride share many more!
