Sen. Perdue Denies President Said “Shithole” Countries Remark

David_Perdue,_Official_Portrait,_114th_CongressAs we discussed yesterday, both Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have said that President Donald Trump did indeed refer to Haiti and Africa as “shithole” countries.  However, Sen. David Perdue (R., Ga.) on ABC This Week says that the word was never used. Period. He also said that the meeting was “productive” and suggested that Durbin is lying (and has lied previously) about such meetings.  PreviouslyTom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Sen. Perdue have said that they simply do not recall.  Now Purdue says that he has a clear recollection and the words were never used.  Sen. Jeff Flake has said that he met with members in the meeting before the words were made public and that members openly discussed Trump’s use of these words.  Finally, a conservative columnist has gone public with the allegation that he spoke to friends of the President who said that he called to boast about using the term to energize his base.

President Donald Trump is denying that he referred to Haiti and African countries as “shithole countries” in a meeting with members of Congress.  Perdue said on Sunday: “I’m telling you he did not use that word, George. And I’m telling you it’s a gross misrepresentation. How many times do you want me to say that?”

In the meantime, Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen appeared on Fox Sunday with Chris Wallace (who in my opinion is consistently one of the best interviewers in the media). She said that she did not recall if the words were used.  Wallace was clearly skeptical and pressed her on the how dubious such a statement sounds. He noted that he could understand if she said that Trump never said it or did say it. However he noted that few people believe that such a statement by the President would not be recalled.  Nielsen looked distinctly uncomfortable but maintained that position even as Wallace noted that Graham reportedly confronted the President on the use of the words.  Moreover, Perdue, Graham, Durbin has clear (if conflicting memories) while Nielsen just does not remember if the President made such a highly inflammatory remark.

Flake said on ABC This Week that participants in that meeting had no such problem recollecting the words and spoke openly about the controversy before the words became public.

This is why the public has such open contempt for politicians.  Either the words were used or not used but, as noted by Wallace, few people believe that these politicians would not remember such a scene and shocking language.  In the end, I am more concerned with the fact that someone is obviously lying and I do not accept the moral relativism in Washington that no one expects you to tell the truth when it is beneficial to you or your party.

Do you believe that anyone could be in a meeting with six people in the Oval Office and not recall whether such language (and subsequent objections) were heard?

If not, do you believe Durbin/Graham or Perdue?

  1. If the media is so outraged about Trump’s sxxxhole comment, why were the media not so outraged when obama made a similar comment about Libya a couple years ago as quoted: “Mess is the president’s diplomatic term; privately, he calls Libya a “shit show,” in part because it’s subsequently become an ISIS haven — one that he has already targeted with air strikes. It became a shit show, Obama believes, for reasons that had less to do with American incompetence than with the passivity of America’s allies and with the obdurate power of tribalism.” Let’s give an equal measure of outrage to both President’s. Oh, let’s not, because that does not fit the liberal agenda…oust the President by any and all means possible, lie, cheat steal…whatever it takes.

    1. Same reason they weren’t outraged with his double dozening down on victimizing women and then his wife doing a follow up victimizing session on them. Because they weren’t outraged. Nothing to be upset about. From the view point of left wing sextremists.

  2. The fact is that Trump has done MORE to help Haiti than ANY of the Leftists from the presstitutes or the politicians who are making their false accusations that Trump is a racist. We all know what the Clintons did: they STOLE from the Haitians–and the Leftist presstitutes and politicians LOVE the Clintons for doing that.

Leftists are such phonies and, well . . . SH!THOLES, to put it simply.

Senator Rand Paul was asked about Trump’s purported “racism” by the presstitutes at the “Meet the Press” show. Here is what he said:

“I know personally about his feelings towards Haiti and towards Central America because when I was not a candidate for president and he wasn’t a candidate for president, I went down there on a medical mission trip,” the Kentucky Republican, an ophthalmologist who often travels to other countries to provide eye surgeries, told NBC “Meet the Press” anchor Chuck Todd.

“When we asked Donald J. Trump as a private citizen to support those trips, he was a large financial backer of both medical mission trips,” Paul told Todd. “I know for a fact that he cares very deeply about the people in Haiti, because he helped finance a trip where we were able to get vision back for 200 people,” said Paul.

So, what has Turley done for Haiti? Don Lemmonhead? Cuck Todd? Dickweed Dur-ban?
    Nothing, zip, zilch, nada, ugatz!

And same for any of you other Lefties!

So, could you please do me a favor, and just STFU!

    1. The media only need to send someone to Haiti for about an hour to discover the visceral hatred Haitians have for Bill and Hillary after both raped that country dry under the pretense of their so-called charity.

      1. The Haitians that have a low standard of living and little education know how bad the Clinton’s were and hate them, but the Liberal leftist elites with all their education can ‘t figure it out.

  3. I still find it incredible that no one has a recording of the meeting’s conversations.
Recording devices are ubiquitous, and anyone there, including the President, could have had one running.
My bet is that there is one, and who ever, or whomever has it is just waiting for its market value to rise.
What media outlet wouldn’t pay huge bucks to have a copy of that recording now.
I would estimate it to be worth $100,000 right now, because of its revelatory information and even more for its shaming value of people who have put their reputations on the line in reporting what was or wasn’t said.

    1. Shaming value? Reputation? I sincerely believe neither tribe cares about such things. Those are for a bygone era.

    2. Not true. The place is filled with detector devices operated by the Secret Service. Now there no doubt is recordings but for them one would have to ask the Secret Service. Both audio and video.

  4. Professor Turley:
It is actually irrelevant what was said. Swear words are very common everywhere. Turning swear words into a “racist” statement is simply and totally Dem propaganda. The meeting was contentious on a very important issue. The swear words are being taken out of context, intentionally by opponents of our President.

    1. Turley’s concern is that someone is lying about the story. Either Durbin is lying or Trump is lying.
Durbin has now walked back his story. So now we know.
Of course there’s another way to view this… politicians don’t lie, they just stretch the truth. lol

      1. If “politicians don’t lie, they just stretch the truth. ” then what are fools like Diane doing when they over-interpret the punctuation of tertiary material?

  5. FWIW – How “shithole” is translated around the world….

Quarz – Donald Trump referred to Haiti and African nations as “shithole countries” during a meeting yesterday …Media around the world soon picked up on the remark, but not always in English. In Asia, outlets struggled to translate “shithole countries.” Some of their attempts follow (links in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese):

Haiwainet, a news portal of China’s state newspaper People’s Daily, used lan guo which means “countries that suck.”

The official Xinhua News Agency and other outlets translated the expletive as “fenkeng” — literally “cesspit.”

Taiwan’s Central News Agency tried niao bu sheng dan de guo meaning “countries where birds don’t lay eggs.”

South Korean news portal went with “go-ji-so-gul meaning “beggars’ haunts.”

Japan’s wire service Kyodo News chose “kusottare,” which literally means “dripping with excrement.”

The Japanese daily Sankei opted for “Benjo no yō ni kitanai kuni,” meaning “countries that are dirty like toilets.”

Vietnam’s Youth newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City went for “rubbish states”.

Greece’s daily Ta Nea settled on “thieving countries”.

France’s venerable Le Monde did not quite get there with “pays de merde” – shit countries. But a sister French news site, Courrier International, went straight for the jugular with “trou a merde”, or hole of shit.

    1. Autumn – it was true in any language. 🙂 However, it is nice to see the world try to keep up. 😉 Thanks for the article.

    2. Thank you twice Squeak. I lived in those countires full time and take exception only to Mexico since I spend much of the year in that country at present. San Jose California, Chicago IL, Houston, TX, Washington DC are far far more sh*t holes than Panama ever was and now with Pontoon Beach and Hollywood gone I would only consider El Salvador in those terms. Costa Rica has gone down hill since the 70’s but Papeete Tahiti under the French may as well be added to the list. Samoa no but American Samoa yes. And then there is France where they still cross the street to stomp on dog poop for good luck and have yet to discover toilets.

  6. A typical conversation in Jonathan Turley’s comment section:

    Blacks are inferior.

    Then you’re a racist?

No! It’s a fact that blacks really are inferior.

    1. Only if it is between various types of leftists. National Socialists, International Socialiists and Progressive Socialists. the ones who have yet to discover Charmin.

      1. Good one. Don’t forget that 50% gets kicked back to the Clinton Foundation.

  7. That’s a fact Jack and he nice part is the opposition thinks saying is the same as doing. Obectivism wins out over subjectivism every time.

  8. Ditto and the people he was probably talking about can be found for the most part at SH Central or 430 S Capitol SW Washington DC including their RINO partners. They don’t deserve any respect and deserve their own speech patterns reversed in their direction.

Now you will see some stupid anti GOP comment which has nothing to do with anything especially my registration particulars but explains the above statement.

  9. Ditto and the people he was probably talking about can be found for the most part at SH Central or 430 S Capitol SW Washington DC including their RINO partners. They don’t deserve any respect and deserve their own speech patterns reversed in their direction.

  10. Isn’t it interesting that we have never heard recordings of Trump ever using a racist slur? If it existed we would have heard it already. I believe that Trump never said it especially due to this 70 year history. Of course he has probably uttered racial slurs as we all have at one time or another. So what? Has he made life better for past employees and current constituents? I say yes, so far.

  11. Those that hate Trump will disagree with him no matter what he says or does so I agree with your points. I sort of like his demeanor, not that I like coarseness, rather I like blunt honesty and when it comes to honesty and sunlight Trump is the man.

    1. “when it comes to honesty and sunlight Trump is the man.”

Thanks for the laugh, Allan. Would you say that his honesty is exceeded only by his sincerity and genius intelligence?

      1. ” Would you say that his honesty is exceeded only by his sincerity and genius intelligence?”

Bill, I would say he has all three, but some are blind and refuse to recognize the truth.

  12. In 2013 “The No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, Sen. Dick Durbin, said in a Facebook post that a House Republican leader told off President Barack Obama during a negotiation meeting, and that GOP leaders are so disrespectful it’s practically impossible to have a conversation with them. Durbin claimed the comment made to Obama was “I can’t even stand to look at you”
But Wednesday afternoon, both the White House and House speaker’s office denied his claims.” (Politico) (Townhall)

    1. Are you tying togethe 2013 and yesterday? Bit of a stretch even for a dialectic wall bouncer.

  13. I believe Durbin/Graham. Although the irony does not escape me as both IL and SC contain “shitholes” – Chicago and the “Corridor of Shame”

  14. Part of the polarization of the country is that people – even the voters – are not bothered any more about lying. If they accept who their leader is, it won’t matter if they are caught in a lie. That also means if they reject the other party, it doesn’t matter that they tell the truth. They realize, finally, that the truth is also a weapon to be used to defeat the enemy. I don’t expect this “moral relativism” to disappear either. We are more and more comfortable with using whatever people can “accept” as the truth as OK if my side wins.

    1. I disagree. The Repubs who pushed Trump as the nominee did so because they were sick of the establishment politicians not keeping their promises.

      1. and the Repubs does not include he entire party as many are RINOs and should be registered as leftists.

    2. Not quite true. Our side the constitutional centrists independents use the Constitution as the nationalTruth while the remainder uses whatever patch of ground is available for crapping.

    1. There isn’t enough room for any more besides we kicked him out last November.

  15. If these locations are not shyteholes what are they? It’s just the Dems relentless attack against this President no matter what he does or says. It’s all about the Dems playing minorities for their vote in return for freebies.

  16. The issue is not so much he used the term shithole” to describe some countries. The issue is that he wants to block entirely immigrants from the entire continent of Africa, then El Salvador and Haiti. While opening his arms to countries like Denmark. It’s not about “merit-based” which is what he now claims he intended, He wanted to block them all. Some of his base is concerned about the browning of America and he’s just the man to put an end to it whether it be by banning Muslims or blocking those from “shithole countries.”

As for Perdue, was he lying earlier or lying now? I’m certain he was lying in both statements.

    1. Enigma, It sounds like you are not interested in an immigration policy that helps America and Americans that include people of all races rather you are interested in reducing the number of white voters. I think that type of attitude is racist.

    2. “block entirely.” Please provide evidence of this.

And I will tell you I am concerned about changing the character of our country by randomly and massively importing poor people and those that don’t share our values.

        1. “The evidence is Trump’s words. He said what he meant.”

We have to remember that all interpretation of words spoken by Trump have to go through Enigma’s color filter.

    3. Enigma, re “…opening his arms to countries like Denmark” – doing so reduces the number of immigrants applying to get in – how many folks from countries with excellent social benefits want to immigrate here unless they are already super wealthy?

    1. Watching from afar – absolutely no one gives a sh-t. You hear these people, including Turley types, and you give a nice big eye roll and you say to your neighbor, “Hey, how about those tax cuts?”

Then you high-five each other and go have a beer.

In these parts, actions will always speak louder than words. As long as Trump policy benefits Americans, no one, I mean NO ONE, cares how President Trump expresses himself. Literally, no one.

      1. Haha. How’s your tax “cut” coming along? You don’t even know what these clowns passed. Change the channel.

this is to “Hannity told me to cheer for my team” eaglet

        1. Marky Mark Mark – I am sure that anything extra that ends in your paycheck will either be given to charity or back to the government. You are a credit to your race.
